PS4 demo kiosks are starting to pop up at Gamestop & Best Buy

What Agros was that? I'm getting my arse down to one of their stores if they have PS4's to play!

Lakeside Retail Park.

I was shocked too. I looked around and saw a whole wall promoting the Xbox One and thought 'wow, thats a big deal' and then as my eyes travelled round I saw the demo unit. Ran over with my girlfriend and had a go on it.

So I played Knack today and I was VERY underwhelmed visually. I wasn't expecting that. I double checked the TV model to make sure it supported 1080p and sure enough it was the KDL-32W650A. 1080p LED.

Textures seemed flat, simple geometry, and I just noticed lots of jaggies or blurriness. I don't know what was going on guys, just didn't impress me at all. Combat was very basic too, I kind of got bored after 10 minutes. I'll get this game but probably only after it reaches $20 or so.

I will say the Dualshock 4 felt absolutely spectacular in my hands. Extremely ergonomic, the sticks felt nice and tight which was a VERY welcome change to the looseness of the Dualshock 3. Awesome triggers, touchpad felt so good, handles felt perfect. Can't praise it enough.

Ive been saying this since playing it first at e3 and multiple times after. Knack sucks unfortunately.

It's odd how Sony's setting up tons around big cities, and close to nothing anywhere else. The only ones in New York State are in New York City. We don't have anything in Buffalo or Rochester.

Think a lot of people are going to be surprised by the high review grades knack will be getting. I think they are going into expecting a totally different experience. The game is good, a kick back to the older platform playstation games. Many were itching for this type of experience and when they finally give us it, they whine.

Not me, I'm disappointed in the games they're demoing

How is that odd? The big cities get a lot more traffic.

Best buy's got a tv for both consoles set up, but no consoles here :(

Edit: I did see the fake Xbox one though, looks pretty decent sized.

I checked one out today, and like many here I was a little underwhelmed with Knack. It would be great as a 30 dollar-or-so game. I did like the difficulty of it, even if I wish it had more enemies on the screen, and some of the particle stuff was fun but it wasn't mind-blowing.

The controller is amazing and comfortable, and the size of the system is impressively small. I hope it doesn't get really hot and loud.

Still nothing here in the Orlando area aside from the Sony store that I'm not going to drive to. Less than two weeks....

I hope it was an old build, but if it is, I'd question the competency of Sony in this regard. Putting an ugly old build of your game on your demo units that consumers will try out is completely illogical.

They may not have much of a choice. These demo stations feel very rushed and last minute unfortunately, and I can see why. They have teams of people working on a billion other things to make sure the PS4's get into people's home. I would venture to guess that the demos for the kiosks would have had to be turned in months ago so they could be assembled separate from everything else. Even the Octodad developer said Octodad was an old demo that lacked many improvements they have since made, including AA.

Knack is just such a poor choice for prospective system owners. XBO is handing sony it's ass in the hands on marketing.

What demos are on Xbone's kiosk? Not trying to be snarky, just asking.

I think Sony would have been wise to put NBA2k14 on their kiosk as well, but again it is launch and everything is a race, so maybe 2K couldn't get a PS4 demo cut a month or two ago for this kiosk.

Location is finally up at the Best Buy on Elston near North Ave. Likely going to swing by tomorrow and maybe pick up Killzone if it's still in stock.

Bout time they stopped ignoring the whole middle portion of the US. lol

8 days and change left though, I'll just wait.

Stopped by a Sony Store and played Knack. I was underwhelmed by the frame rate issues and almost just walked out but stuck with it. I like the Katamari mechanics of getting bigger and I thought the visuals otherwise were pretty good.

I hope Killzone blows me away on release day.

Stopped by Gamestop @ 6th Ave today in NY and I have to say I'm super impressed with the PS4. The controller is soooo much better than the DS3 that's the first thing. It feels very familiar but I didn't realize how much better it felt in my hands til I came home and started playing my PS3.

Also, for everyone saying FIFA 14 is not next-gen....FUCK YOU!!

The game might not have gotten the graphical bump of a NBA 2k14 but this game is definitely miles ahead of the current gen offering. The game is buttery smooth and play is so fluid and lifelike. I have all intentions of skipping FIFA on PS4 in favor of NBA 2k14 but I might have to pick this game up. It is really good in terms of game play and fluidity. Also, a lot of the issues I had with FIFA 13 have been addressed as it relates to team mate AI players are definitely more lifelike and the ball is no longer glued to your feet so you get a real sense that the ball is a live. I played two full games of FIFA and then I played Knack.

The Knack demo starts off pretty boring and uninspiring. I was really turned off by the empty streets in the demo and the seeming lack of dept to the character...initially. However, as the demo progressed the game started to shine and you got the feeling that the game has a lot more to offer in terms of gameplay. Oh, and to echo what everyone else has said....its really really hard. I'm still not sure it Day 1 because FIFA but its definitely a solid game. Wish there was more platforming but I'll definitely be picking this game up at some point before year's end.

The final game I played was Contrast. I didn't get the full feel of the game because the sound was very low and I get the feeling that it's one of those games with a great soundtrack but the gameplay elements were pretty solid and the mechanics and ideas behind navigating the world is pretty cool. It's an interesting concept and game controls pretty well. All in all, I don't think there was anything on demo that would blow you away but I was pleasantly surprised by FIFA tbh...i didn't expect to be as impressed as I was with the title.

The store I work at got the PS4 station set up. The console looks very small and the controller feels light and it just feels good. Everyone I spoke to about it was very impressed. FIFA looked good. The visuals on all the games were very sharp. KNACK impressed me. It seems deceptively simple but there looks to be more to it than what it first seems. It is hard and reminded me of crash bandicoot a lot.

The PS4 is small guyz

First question u from near Pittsburgh? B/C I want to play ps4. Secondly what makes knack more appealing than r&c or jax &faster games or even sly?

Played today at the Sony Store in Caeser's Palace in Las Vegas. Only one guy in front of me so I didn't have to wait long.

First off, the controller is ridiculously good. Like, amazingly. The grips, good god the grips. Might be the best controller I've ever used. I loved it the moment the weighted grips fell into my hands.

Played most of the Knack demo. Certain parts kicked my ass. I played on normal and was really surprised that the tank killed me in three hits. I beat him on my second try, but it took some actual strategy. Normal would be way too hard for a casual player imo. Died again a little bit after that and let the next guy in line play. Demo was really long so I felt I had my fill. Game felt like it had decent feedback and I was surprised at the level of challenge considering the simplistic mechanics. Will probably buy it.

The sharpness of the game stood out to me. Definitely 1080p. Though framerate was really spotty. Was this an old build?

Going to go back tomorrow and try Contrast. Super positive experience today.

Did anyone else feel frustrated by the jumping in Knack? Like he barely can make the required ledge jumps even with double jumping?

Best Buy Sunridge in Calgary has one now too. Knack was not a good choice to show this thing off, its really not a good looking game. Anyway, for anyone interested.

What's the difference between an interactive display and an exclusive ps4 experience?
The interactive display is the kiosk in the OP while the exclusive experience is the Canadian pop up stores with Killzone and AC4 demos.

I like the positive Fifa impressions, keep them coming. Because that's gonna be my launch game and the one game I'm gonna play for a whole year.

There were lots of kids around the booth and they loved Knack. I asked them to start Drive Club, but they said that they had already tested all the games and Knack is the best. ^_^

It does sound like the game was well designed for family fun. Good post.

Fun fact; only stores able to provide an internet connection will be able to get a PS4 demo-unit. From an interview in Entertainment Business (Dutch magazine);
Kan retail uitkijken naar PS4-demo-exemplaren?
"Uiteraard. Het uitproberen blijft superbelangrijk. Er gelden wel andere regels voor de PS4-demo-unit vergeleken met die van de PS2 of PS3. De winkels die er een willen hebben, moeten bijvoorbeeld voorzien zijn van WiFi of een internetaansluiting. Als de klant dat niet kan garanderen, dan gaan wij de demo-unit niet leveren. Doordat er constante verbinding is, kunnen wij de demo-units voorzien van up-to-date content."
Translation;
Can retail look forward to PS4-demo-units?
"Of course. Allowing the consumer to try it out remains hugely important. However, there are some different rules in place compared to the PS2/PS3-demo-units. For example, stores that want a PS4-demo-unit need to have WiFi or another internet-connection. If the store can't guarantee a connection to the internet, we won't supply a demo-unit. Because of the constant connection, we are able to continually provide the demo-units with up-to-date content."
