Wii U Games 2013

Nintendo should take this chance to make the "VC month". Prices reduced forever, new releases every 2 days, genesis, gba and (NEW) n64 games

I think its a fantastic idea! Incredible! Smashing! Its never going to happen.

GBA and GC VC, just to inflate hype further
for something I agree will not happen. :(

As it seems:

January: ?!?!?!?? Probably nothing.
February: Donkey Kong
March: Mario Kart
April: Super Smash
May: New Yoshi Game?
June: X

maybe? they said there would be a consistent lineup of games in 2014.

More likely those games are spread throughout the year with smaller titles we don't know about and maybe one big surprise.

I bet on surprises too. Super mario 3d world was revealed at e3 and released in november. So i think we only know enough to fill the first half of 2014

So I just got my Wii U, wohooo! I've a hard time coming up with many compelling games though... I have a PC, so any game already on PC aren't interesting. I've already played Wind Waker HD, don't really like Pikmin (I think? only played a bit of the first one but didn't like it). The interesting games I can come up with are:

Zombie U
NSMBU+Luigi
Lego City
Wonderful 101
SM3DW

Is MH3U worth it if you own the 3DS version but haven't played it much?

If you don't like Pikmin 3 then these should be enough. You might want to check also some indie games once you're done with this. Just out of curiosity, what didn't you like in Pikmin 1?

I posted this in the "Super Smash Bros 3DS will hurt wii u" thread, but it's better here I guess. There is are some rumoured dates for SSB 4 that link to an April launch.

http://www.examiner.com/article/sup...s-release-date-potentially-posted-by-gamestop

Also Zavvi lists the release date for Wii U version as 18th of April 2014 which is a Friday, so it would fit to the usual releases in Europe.

I know that this might be placeholder dates, but maybe where is smoke ...

I doubt this for two reasons. First, I don't think there's any way it's coming out that close to Mario Kart. Second, Smash is likely to be the big holiday title for Nintendo next year. If it came out in April, what could we reasonably expect them to have for next holiday? Zelda U would work, but I don't see that coming out until 2015.

SSB Brawl and Mario Kart Wii have launched quite close in 2008, 1 month difference in US and 2 months in EU. according to the statements Zelda is already in playable form at this point. So it is not that impossible.

And if I look at 2008 and at Animal Crossing Plaza, there might be another game candidate for holidays 2014. Or a Pokemon one.

Yes. Online makes the game so much better. I played about 20 hours on 3DS and got the Wii U version and went up to 60 hours. You should definitely get it.

Well, Pikmin 3 is much evolved since Pikmin 1, i would certainly give it a try because it's an excellent game. Pikmin 1 was kind of... simple, i guess. You didn't need that much strategy to finish it. In Pikmin 3, you have 3 characters and 5 Pikmin types in story mode (and even more Pikmin types in the other game modes). So there really is a lot more to manage and thus you'll need to tune your strategy much more than was the case in the first game. So as an RTS, the game has come a long way since then, but it hasn't lost any of its charm, wit or humor. Even if you didn't like the first, try to borrow it, rent it or resell it... i think you'll learn to love it if you give it some time. You WILL want to play it with the wiimote/nunchuck though, so much faster.

I guess December and January is around when I personally expect indie releases to pick up. Might at least pick up some slack from retail side :)

don't really like Pikmin (I think? only played a bit of the first one but didn't like it).

If I recall correctly, USgamer's review had a section where some guy who didn't like the first one praises Pikmin 3 for being a much better game.
And on the same note, one of my friends who had a Gamecube back in the day but didn't like Pikmin is begging me to lend him my WiiU over Christmas because of the fun we had it the multiplayer.
It's a shame this game doesn't have a demo, I'd hate to recommend a game you might not like, but I really feel people should give it a shot. I've spent 80+ hours with it already, my favourite game in years.

That'd be incredible. Smash in April would be awesome, but it doesn't seem to be that far in development, or maybe Sakurai is just very sneaky!

I can picture Bayonetta 2 in May/June instead of the Yoshi game. I also expect X to be released on Q3.

Definitely that but others too. Isn't Shovel Knight coming? Stuff like that. Some interesting games to look forward to certainly.

The way the kickstarter updates are worded makes it sound like they still have some work to do on Shovel Knight. At this point, I don't expect it until February.

What's better for a 4 and half year old? Mario and Sonic at the Olympics or Wii Party U?

EDIT: Assume one or two players.

Like I said before... Both are great games but Wii Party U is way more family friendly than Mario&Sonic.

I'm considering getting Ghosts, but I'm unsure how long the community will last.

Black Ops 2 is usually less than 1000 these days. Probably even lower once Christmas hits :|

I tried the W101 demo the other day, hoping to love it... but I was kind of disappointed. I don't think I really "got" it. Can someone point me in the right direction to understand how I should be playing the game?

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.

That's the problem with the demo. It throws you in the deep end with little explanation and you spend half the time wondering what you're doing.

A rumor of Smash in April is just setting people up for disappointment, IMO. I think it's looking like this:

Jan: Wii Fit U (Retail)
Feb: Donkey Kong Returns
March: Wii Karaoke (?)
April: Mario Kart 8
May: Wii Sports Club (Retail)
June: Bayonetta 2
July: Yarn Yoshi
August: X
September: Smash

For some reason I have a feeling X will be pushed out farther than that; hope not. That's also probably early for a Wii Sports Club retail release; I think they'll have Golf out in January, then baseball maybe in March, then maybe make it part of a hardware bundle along with a pricecut to $250 for the fall/winter. A 32GB with Kart and Wii Sports Club at $250 late next year would probably move some units.

You're not alone. I imagine everyone who's played W101 (and especially the demo) has felt that way at first. It's deeply rewarding if you stick with it though.

I am in shock, a Wii U game is in the top 20 bestsellers on Amazon UK.
Disney Infinity starter pack, not sure if its bundled with anything.

Super Mario 3D World is number 25 too, and Rayman Legends on Wii U is no 40.

Not too shabby, seeing 3 Wii U titles in the top 50 is unheard of for Amazon UK.

What are the chances of Sunshine HD, I can see that filling in the 2014 Mario platformer hole. I haven't given it much thought but it shouldn't be a problem to get around the lack of an analog trigger.

I also wonder when it would be the right timing to reveal Zelda U. Perhaps as soon as possible (January) while the ALBW hype is still fresh.

I'd like to see the trend of HD Gamecube remakes continuing with Super Mario Sunshine, if we don't end up getting them on VC. We've already had Wii ports of Pikmin 1-2, the Metroid Prime trilogy, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Chibi-Robo (in Japan) and Mario Power Tennis, though, so I wonder what else could be brought out.

Zelda Wii U isn't coming in 2014. People need to lower their expectations. We just received 2 Zelda games this year. Besides, 2014 has Smash Bros and Mario Kart, not much of a reason to rush Zelda out in terms of lack of high profile franchises.

I agree. Zelda will be their 2015 holiday game.

Remember it was said that NERD created the GC-Wii U engine that powered Wind Waker? Since Wii was for all intents and purposes a beefed up GC in architecture, would the engine with the littliest of tweaks be used to Wii-Wii U ports?

Xenoblade and The Last Story HD would be on top of my list, as would both Super Mario Galaxy games of course. :)

As long as I get X in 2014, I'm good.
That game will be my life for at least a year. Especially with Online.

Technically speaking, any Wii assets should be able to be ported to WiiU with little trouble. And who knows, Nintendo may have that team working on HD Remakes for the WiiU's life. Two a year (if they each take 6 months like WW HD) would be a decent turn out.

Ghosts is a good port. No guarantees on the community. I can always find a TDM or Dom match. Cranked and Kill Confirmed look to have players, although I don't like those modes. My only complaint is that the Search communities are thin. Usually not a problem during the daytime (PST), but after the East Coast goes to bed, it's harder to find a Search match.

Yup. I know they said they want to try for a 3 year console Zelda cycle, but they have a TON coming for Wii U next year. There is no need to get Zelda out next year with Kart and Bros. coming out, and Zelda will need more time anyway. Now that WWHD and ALBW are finished hopefully all hands are on deck for Zelda U. Let Grezzo handle MM3D if there is going to be one, don't waste your main staff on it.

It's possible but I think holiday 2016 may be more realistic time frame. Development on Skyward Sword reportedly began after the development of Phantom Hourglass but before Spirit Tracks. Spirit Tracks used half of the development team and then they reunited with the rest of the team to focus on developing Skyward Sword. By November 2008, Skyward Sword's development was said to still be in the planning stages. Skyward Sword was initially planned to be out by the end of 2010, but it got delayed a year. By June 2009 for E3, the game was a no-show because its graphics were not fully developed. Instead we just got a look at a piece of concept art that showed Link and Fi, but it wasn't drawn in the art style of the game. From what we know, Eiji Aonuma wanted to discuss this new Zelda Wii U project at E3 2014, but that of course does not guarentee we'll see the game itself.

I unfortunately have "not shit" on my crystal ball which is why I didn't continue past Fall 2014. Maybe an unannounced Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 HD Collection with bonus levels? I doubt a true Zelda would make it in time. I think they'd likely delay Smash to be honest to be their holiday seller, though that actually looks more ready than many of their other games. I'm pondering a Kid Icarus Uprising with better graphics or a Luigi's Mansion remake/sequel, but that's more quality filler than actual holiday titles.

Going slightly off the rails, someone mentioned a Pikmin 3 demo, which really really has to happen. That game is ace and I doubt many realize how addictive and quality it really is. As someone who wasn't totally won over by Pikmin 1 or 2, Pikmin 3 gets it right and it is a masterpiece in gaming. Totally addictive and they should at least have a couple of treasure hunts to try as a demo.

Any word on that Pokemon fighting game? I could see Smash releasing in the first half of the year (maybe before Evo?) to give the other fighting game some space to breath. Otherwise I think it would be completely overshadowed by Smash.

If they've been working on it long enough to feel it was worth showing last E3 but they held back, I'm not sure why we couldn't see it at the tail end of 2014. Nintendo's slate isnt nearly strong enough considering the lack of third-party support in the face of the first year on the market for Sony and Microsoft's new systems.

They have shown Zelda games at E3 with nothing but concept art before.

I was asking Yacht Club Games about this, and was told they are currently planning on releasing the game somewhere between Dec. and Feb. This was right at the beginning of this month, so I'm not sure if the release date has changed since then.

No chance Smash releases in the first half of the year. Mario Kart will come then, and they're not going to have their two big four player casual/core crossover multiplayer games compete with each other.

I think they just confirmed it was pushed into 2014, so we're looking at January or February now, but likely the latter.
