Wii U Games 2013

I unfortunately have "not shit" on my crystal ball which is why I didn't continue past Fall 2014. Maybe an unannounced Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 HD Collection with bonus levels? I doubt a true Zelda would make it in time. I think they'd likely delay Smash to be honest to be their holiday seller, though that actually looks more ready than many of their other games. I'm pondering a Kid Icarus Uprising with better graphics or a Luigi's Mansion remake/sequel, but that's more quality filler than actual holiday titles.

Going slightly off the rails, someone mentioned a Pikmin 3 demo, which really really has to happen. That game is ace and I doubt many realize how addictive and quality it really is. As someone who wasn't totally won over by Pikmin 1 or 2, Pikmin 3 gets it right and it is a masterpiece in gaming. Totally addictive and they should at least have a couple of treasure hunts to try as a demo.

It's gonna be Smash. I also think some of the games you pegged for June/July will be moved to the fall to maximize sales potential; Nintendo's traditionally pretty lean in those months. We'll probably also see stuff in January that hasn't been shown yet that will be ready for next Christmas.

No chance Smash releases in the first half of the year. Mario Kart will come then, and they're not going to have their two big four player casual/core crossover multiplayer games compete with each other.

Do you remember 2008? At least in NA, Brawl released in March and Mario Kart Wii released in April. Some part of me has to think that Nintendo understands that this was a great one-two punch of a strategy.

I think they just confirmed it was pushed into 2014, so we're looking at January or February now, but likely the latter.

Thanks for the update, I appreciate the info. I hope it makes it out before Tropical Freeze comes out, I'm hoping to devote some serious time to it before I get totally sucked in by TF.

You're right, and that's a good point. But I think with Nintendo's HD development troubles, we just won't see it. They've been spreading out their titles a lot, as with Donkey Kong.

I'm considering getting Ghosts, but I'm unsure how long the community will last.

Black Ops 2 is usually less than 1000 these days. Probably even lower once Christmas hits :|

Blacks ops was big up until Ghost and a bunch of other games came out this fall, remember its like the only very good online shooter on WiiU and will be that way for a long time, so Ghost community will last a long time and will prob grow more after Christmas.

As for as 2014 lineup I would say for people to hold out projections until we see whats the VGA thing Reggie is gonna announce and the Dec or Jan Direct where they talk more about WiiU 2014.

Today Ghost was about 1400 strong (or weak). Didn't check Black Ops, but it was almost 1900 this past week-end, and I believe that people are buying it more due to price drop. (Target does not carry Ghost and when asked the untrained employee I was told it does not exist for Wii U, YMMMV though)
Black Ops 2 is the better of the 2 even if squad mode is fun in Ghost.
In Black Ops 2 the frame rate is better when playing dual screen local or online. Which might be due to smaller maps. The smaller maps work much better for online IMHO.
Also the solo campaign in Black Ops is longer and, again IMHO, Zombie mode is better than Extinction.
So its a mixed bag. In your shoes I would get Black ops becasue:
1- cheaper
2- community size is about the same (for now)
3- generally plays better

Between the two Black Ops 2 is the better buy due to price and really the better game in the end on multiple fronts. I can't recommend Ghosts at all between the two or in general.

Anyone still play Most Wanted U? Online races still possible? Do records for races, etc when it comes to all players or only the records for those on the friend list show up?

I wish a new Metroid was announced and released in 2014

By then it would be 4 years after Other M. More than enough time to work on something solid.
But then I remember we had to wait almost 10 fucking years to get a new Pikmin and it scares me the same could happen to Metroid :(

I just had my gamepad battery die out on me again while watching a movie on Amazon Prime. What are the best solutions out there to extend the battery life?

I remembered this quote:

We'll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we'll have the whole lineup in place, so I think it's about time we brought out a new franchise.

That could very well mean that SSB 4 comes out before Mario Kart. With all these info I really think it is possible to have SSB in April and Mario Kart in May.

I highly doubt that. Kid Icarus: Uprising was released in March 2012, so we can assume the development of Smash Bros. didn't properly start before that. If it's released in Spring 2014, that will give it a cycle of two years which is slightly less than the one of Brawl. Considering they are developing two versions simultaneously this time, it'll probably take even longer. I'm not expecting to see this game until the holiday season.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Let's start the guessing (and if they don't delay things):

Saw it too.

I'll add it after an official confirmation. :p

Reggie stated in the latest GT.TV episode that they want to ensure a steadier flow of releases and consistend marketing for the Wii U in 2014.

Mar: Nothing*
April: MK8
May: Bayonetta 2
June: X
July: Yoshi
August: Smash
September: SMT x FE
October: LOL*
November: NOPE*
December: Zelda

At least one of those will be a surprise, unexpected title. I'm obviously being super hopeful, but I think Nintendo would be pretty good off dropping MK8 during the Spring, Smash during the Summer, and Zelda for the holidays.

Super Mario 3D World is out tomorrow (UK).

I've seen that Game have a limited edition version with a keyring and furry cover.

Anyone know anywhere else in UK that has a better edition than this?

you forgot X, unless you think they will delay it, which I wouldn't mind. I want it to be the best game ever, they can release it in 2015 for what I care.

Two small updates.

Wii Fit U release date was wrong, it's going to be released in January (in America at least):

fitu6vu2w.png

And Project CARS got delayed to Fall 2014 (instead of Q2 2014), so probably Q3/Q4 2014:

Now that Wii Fit U is delayed I can update my list (Jan was empty). :p

trying to imagine Nintendo release schedule is probably near to impossible ;p
I bet they'll delay some of the already announced games (like Fire Emblem, or X), reveal without a firm date Zelda, and stealth release (announce-two months-release) some other project

I take another shot at it:

Jan: Bayo 1 (Wii Fit U for US)
Feb.: Donkey Kong Country
Mar.: Wii Sports Club Box and/or Steel Diver U
Apr.: Super Smash Bros. 4
May: Mario Kart 8
Jun.: Wii Sports Golf & Baseball
July: new Miyamoto IP
Aug.: Yoshi's Epic Yarn
Sep.: Bayonetta 2
Oct: Monolith's X
Nov.: Animal Crossing U
Dec.: nothing

Stil wondering if we'll see Pokken or Pikachu detective in 2014.

For some reason I have a feeling X will be pushed out farther than that; hope not.

That reason is called Xenoblade Chronicles with a hefty dose of pessimism. The history with that game is making you think they'll push it back or have a very staggered release across the world. At this point, there is simply no reason to assume that.

I don't think Bayo 2, X, ACU will be the fall line up, because they'll need either SSB or MK8 as the "big" holiday title. ACU is not going to cut against the equivalent titles (read: Halo 5 hype etc).

I think MK8 will release in the first half of the year with SSB as the holiday title, unless they can squeeze out Zelda for Nov/Dec.

Remember it was said that NERD created the GC-Wii U engine that powered Wind Waker? Since Wii was for all intents and purposes a beefed up GC in architecture, would the engine with the littliest of tweaks be used to Wii-Wii U ports?

Xenoblade and The Last Story HD would be on top of my list, as would both Super Mario Galaxy games of course. :)

That was never said. NERD is made up of a bunch of people who worked on some fancy new converter technology before they joined. There was never any clear indication that NERD did the asset conversion tools. Don't spread this as fact.

Have we heard anything about SMT x FE since Nintendo announced it?

No.

It's possible but I think holiday 2016 may be more realistic time frame.

That's not realistic, that's, again, pessimistic. Holiday 2014 is highly optimistic and quite unlikely but not impossible. Sometime 2015 is realistic and quite likely but Holiday 2016 is very pessimistic and also unlikely.

You're right, and that's a good point. But I think with Nintendo's HD development troubles, we just won't see it. They've been spreading out their titles a lot, as with Donkey Kong.

Those troubles related to getting up to speed in the early days. These aren't ongoing troubles where they still don't know what shaders are, etc.

Are Pikmin and it's sequel required playing before Pikmin 3 or can I get away without them?

Nintendo doesn't make games that way.

Depending on the focus. I would say SSB and MK8 launchin one month away will convince more people to buy the console than separate. It's about value proposition. And SSB isn't really a holiday game. Plus, if Nintendo has any hope in getting at list 3-4 decent 3rd party games per year it doesn't afford to wait until holiday 2014.

Yes, I am with you, desperate times require desperate measures. Don't know what will be their holiday release, but obviously we lack info. At this point the faster they can get those two out the better for the whole platform.

Started playing Rayman Legends. Such a good game. Gorgeous too. Murphy levels are kind of lackluster by yourself so far. Overall I definitely recommend getting it after 3D World if you somehow still long for more platformer action.

This isn't new or insightful, but if they are going to fail completely at wooing third parties, like they have, Nintendo needs to release more than a dozen games next year.

Sendou

It was the systems first year and there were a few third party games even someone who owns other consoles could care about. Things look bleaker for 2014 onward.

I just mean that they had the quantity this year too. I wish to see more quality going forward.

Besides at least we're getting Child of Light!

Smash will be a the big holiday title I feel like. Of course there has to be some unannounced stuff that will come out in 2014. Nintendo doesn't usually give us a full release slate that far in advance.

Jan: Wii Fit U (retail)
Feb: Donkey Kong: TF
Mar: Wii Sports 3 and 4
April: Mario Kart 8
May: Bayonetta 2
June: Yarn Yoshi
July: None
Aug: Currently Unannounced Title
Sept: Monolith's X
Oct: Currently unannounced Title
Nov: Smash
Dec: None

3rd Party

Jan:
Feb:
Mar: LEGO Hobbit
April: Watch_Dogs
May:
June:
July:
Aug: Madden 26 (going out on limb that WiiU gets the next Madden)
Sept:
Oct: Project Cars, Sonic, Assassin Creed 5
Nov: Call of Duty
Dec:

Until we get more info I'll guess Zelda and FExSMT are for 2015.

The quality is there, I think. The quantity is important because for every Mario World they release a Sonic Olympics, a Wii FitU, or a Wii PartyU. More games means more variety, which means a better chance they release something for me or you or any specific person.

Well alright. Even when not dismissing games like Mario & Sonic, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Game & Wario, Ninja Gaiden, Wii Fit U and Wii Party U I want to see more variety from Nintendo. There was an overload of party games and platformers this past year.

Well, we got two platformers already in the pipeline. :D

At least there'll be a fighting game and an RPG, a racer and a brawler to mix things up at the very least.

The poor hit detection kills BO2 for me. Absolutely kills it. Ghosts has its own problems, but the hit detection is 100x better.

You guys seriously think we're getting the next CoD and Ass Creed? I sure hope you're right but I'm expecting that the current entries will sell so poorly that these are the last entire we'll be seeing for Wii U.

I'm not trying to be negative but I'm having a really hard time feeling positive about the third party situation.

I remember the Wii having shitty support but going through the Wii catalog looking for black Friday bargains I'm forced to admit that third party support was orders of magnitude better back then than now. now😢

How do you like it compared to Origins? I thought it was pretty fun but overall much eaiser to 100%, kind of disappointing in comparison to the amazingness of Origins. Great game, don't get me wrong. Just not GOTY for me like Origins was.

Even it their darkest moments, CoD always finds it way to Nintendo platforms so I wouldn't be too worried about it tbh.
On the other hand, Ubisoft has been very supportive to Wii U but at the end this is not charity so if they think it is just not profitable for them to make a Wii U version of X game they will stop supporting it till the install base is big enough to be justifiable.

Its not like WiiU's user base is going to stay at 4 million.
It will grow over the year. And many people who might buy
CoD or AssCreed type games might be interested in the WiiU
when games like X come out.

Sorry, this is off-topic, but there are many knowledgable people in here so I'll ask anyway:

What's the deal with that Disney game for 3ds? Disney's Magical Castle, I think. I saw it in the latest Japanese Christmas commercials and am now wondering why it's not out for our Western Christmas. Was the game any good? Does it look like a potential success?
