A bit off topic, but just now I was cleaning out my closet and I found this giant spider. I grabbed the closest thing next to me, which ended up being a replica sword (from Pirates of the Caribbean). I killed the spider by crushing it/cutting it in half.

Afterwards, I realized what happened and was like "oh hell yeah" and I totally named the replica Sting.

Lego The Hobbit was just Leaked for every platform under the sun

The lack of subtitle leads to believe that it is all 3 movies in one ? =O

Strange since it comes out next year

They could be doing what they did with the Harry Potter LEGO games; one game covers a certain number of the films, then a second game covers the rest.

So, first game: AUJ + DOS, second game: There and Back Again. The LEGO Lord of the Rings game was fantastic, so I'm definitely excited. If WB Games isn't going to give us a straight-up tie-in game similar to EA's LotR games, then these are definitely suitable alternatives :)

I grabbed tickets for the 2D 24p midnight screening, unlike last year I actually do have the chance to see it in HFR 3D, but ultimately decided against it for the first viewing mostly because I'd be seeing it with my girlfriend who has a serious distaste for anything 3D.

I'm sure I'll see it at some point, as I completely missed out on seeing AUJ in HFR 3D - don't want to repeat that this time around.

Watching LOTR with the PJ and co commentary.
It's amusing how they talk about the possibility of the Hobbit. They seemed pretty certain they'd never make it.

Also on an unrelated note.. but when Elrond talks to Arwen about her fate with Aragorn is amazing piece of cinema.. I absolutely adore this line..
"He will come to death an image of the splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world."
"But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt. As night falling winter has come without a star."

One thing we haven't discussed yet is the Desolation of Smaug |OT|, I would normally hop to it but I'm not sure if I'm going to have enough time in the coming weeks to come up with something suitably awesome. And of course Dantes is MIA, so for the time being it's safe to say he's out as well :(

Red carpet for the premiere of Desolation of Smaug will be livestreamed:

Cumberbatch & Fry confirmed. I will watch intently.

Ugh. I'm pretty sure I work that night, I am terribly disappointed :( Here's hoping I'll be able to catch the tail end of it.

Loxley, I think you should do the OT. I could help if you wanted, lemme know. Anything will be fine, I think. Gosh I miss Edmond :(

This is super old news, but anyone know why Fili actor Rob Kazinsky suddenly left the production?

All that was ever said (officially) was that it was for "personal reasons" - I think I remember reading somewhere that he was home-sick and decided he didn't want to up-root everything and live in New Zealand for 18 months.

Finally got around to watching The Hobbit (extended edition) on blu-ray and I really enjoyed it. I think my expectations were lowered because of the lukewarm reviews and word of mouth so that in the end they were actually exceeded :lol looking forward to DoS

Oh, and I do have an...interesting idea for the Desolation |OT|, it won't be nearly as extravagant a Dantes' AUJ |OT| since I'll be pressed for time - and it's likely I won't be able to get it up and running exactly on week before the release, but it should be ready by the 13th :)

It's official, the BBFC rates Desolation of Smaug 12A with a run-time of 161 minutes.

This makes it the shortest of all of Jackson's Tolkien films.

That's a good sign, I hope. I think only the most hardcore of Tolkien fans would say the first Hobbit earned that incredibly stretched out and unfocused 3 hours. Surely, with all the exposition and looooooong character introductions out the way, and in a movie with dragons, barrel riding, spiders, and were-beasts, this has to be an improvement.

Was just testing out a new TV with my FOTR: EE blu, and it's really disheartening just how far from Fellowship the first Hobbit film was in quality. Jackson's filmmaking sensibilities seem to have plunged right off a cliff.

Don't forget Warner Bros. were in charge of The Hobbit and they weren't with LOTR.

HNNNGH my local theather is showing TUJ just before the midnight showing of DoS. Need to resist going to see it, I think I am being burned out on that movie :lol.

But dat big screen HFR 3D tho :drool.

First press screenings are indeed happening this evening. LA and New York too I believe. Fingers crossed for some postive reactions from embargo breakers.

Maybe critics will be kinder now that expectations have settled down after the first movie. Personally I really enjoyed The Hobbit in the theaters. HFR added a lot to the experience. Day one for this one no doubt.

Oh thank GOODNESS for that shorter run time. I thought the Hobbit really dragged, you could tell they padded the hell out of that film. I loved the film but talk about some serious padding.

I'm so watching this opening weekend. I already told my dad and brother they will be dragged to this...though I think they would tag along anyway.

Yes. I'm sure WB begged Jackson to insert all that fat and make sure the pacing flagged because they wanted to inflate the runtime of the film in order to keep the amount of theatrical showings down.
