Stuff like "the better game won" etc. Like polyh3dron's post. I agree that Knack is not shit, those posts are obviously immature. I don't think it was particularly good though. And 3D World was pretty objectively amazing, it's just sad to see such a good game having bad sales be celebrated. Of course it is mainly due to the disaster of a platform it was released on.

Edit: my mistake if he was trolling

You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means.

Objectively, it is a Mario game. Objectively, it is on the Wii-U. Objectively, it is a platformer. There is no such thing as "objective quality" with regard to works of art. The Mona Lisa does not, objectively, have quality, and the works of Justin Bieber do not, objectively, lack quality. Those are subjective opinions. They may be very well-informed opinions, and despite the constant outcry against them there is nothing inherently wrong with subjectivity or opinions, but they are by their nature not objective.

You perhaps mean to say that it is a demonstrably better game, presuming that you are able to provide clear cases to make that argument. That would still be entirely subjective, though, as video games do not have widely agreed upon "objective" values that can be measured and demonstrated in comparison to one another, as would be the case for a compound's chemical purity or the hardness of a material.

I would suggest looking at Payday 2 sales and graphics

People bought that game for gameplay, shocking in this day and age...

Hell, just look at the runaway success of Minecraft.

But hey, that'd be too inconvenient to acknowledge. Let's continue to deny reality and build up this graphics boogeyman and attack that instead. Keeps us from having to admit that the Wii U's spectacular failure could possibly be in anyway Nintendo's own fault that way.

I'm so excited to see what will happen with vita when it launches in the UK.

Hahahha, this one stings, but it's funny.

TOo early to say the King is back...but I like the trends...

They're definitely in the right direction for the US/UK/Austria, etc so far. I think it's impressive that they're doing this with their launch lineup. Next year is when the all the big exclusives/new IPs come out so it's going to be fun to see how the market reacts.

inFamous
Driveclub
The Order
Rime
GG Xrd
Shadow of the Beast
MLB The Show
Everquest Next
Planetside 2
Uncharted
Lily Bergamo

We may hear about 1-2 new games from Sony at the VGX event this Saturday as well. MS and Nintendo also has great 2014 lineups, so it's looking great for gamers next year.

I'm sorry, how many times did I use the word? Objective was a poor choice, how about the consensus is that it's amazing? By both the press and those who have played it.

I'd like to think Sony got another million to Europe at launch on top of their US haul. Sony did say the UK would be getting a significant proportion of those consoles so 25% of the shipment seems pretty good and inline with that.

I'd agree, but Sony also hasn't commented yet. I presume things are a lot harder to track in the Euro countries, but even so, an announcement of shipped units would go a long way. Would be nice if they sold another mil. That would be roughly 2-1 over xbox one's first week in the same regions...then Japan in March should be another killing.

I'm thinking
250k UK
160k Germany
150k France
150k spain/italy
100k Other countries combined

That would be roughly 800k first 48 hours. Seems plausible

The PSP and Xbox One launches combined did not match the PS4's first two day sales.

Think about that for a sec.

The best launch in UK history combined with one of the better launches in UK history did not match the PS4.

This is beyond the original Wii's launch hype.

Meh, I am not too bothered since Nintendo games tend to have long legs, plus I had fun play Super Mario 3D World to give a toss about consoles and games sales any more.

So congrats Sony, just don't screw it up and keep the steam going.

Know anyone leaving the country to purchase a PS4? I remember people doing that in desperation for the Wii.

Wait, really? According to who? Who said this? This was the best, and second best selling consoles.
psp was 180k
If ps4 is only 250k then that would mean 70k xb1?

Report did say over 250k, but based on the rounding rule, xb1 was only at max 110k?

A "consensus" that it's amazing would probably be a fair cop, given that a consensus is by default very general and not necessarily all-inclusive. I'm not even saying I disagree; I never was a fan of Crash or the other games that Knack is aping, and the visual aesthetic is pretty jarring to me. I'm certainly not saying my opinion is that it's a superior title.

There are people who hold that opinion, though, and it's not as if they're insane or deluded. The opinions of people who like Justin Bieber are still entirely valid, even if their mortal souls are damned to freeze in Canada's bitter heart for all eternity.

That can't be true. XB1 was 150k and I believe psp was 165k

Dude, those other countries combined didnt even had xbox ones available so i would expect way more from Benelux and Skandinavia

Im thinking it sold out whatever amount was available in ANY european country... How Sony distributed them we have no idea..

How are you working that out?

I'm going on my own experience and from what I remember every mum and there granny wanted a Wii. It was surreal at work already having a Japanese Wii and just hearing everyone talking about this console.

PS4 is hot no doubt about it but doesn't feel the same to me.

The gifs are glorious. The salt could season meals for a country.

On "asymmetric gameplay," Nintendo has been pushing it for years and for years people have continued to not give a shit.

On "innovation," I'm not sure where this idea came from that different control schemes amount to "innovation" nor that innovation is more valuable than iterative improvement.

I'm not sure why the thread has devolved into people calling the types of games other people like terrible. I can only surmise it's part of the meltdown process.
Additionally to this point, the Wii U software number is padded with eShop sales which includes lower priced titles, the PS3 figure is retail purchases only so the 28.4m software units sold were done so at a higher ASP. That's why third parties didn't give up on it, they had a user base that bought a shit load of games to sell to. That just doesn't seem to be the case on Wii U.
Wait, when did they start including eShop and other small digital titles in their software sales?

I was wondering how that figure became so inflated when the system isn't moving much full priced retail software.

And yet people still look at review scores....

I agree completely, though.

We need to add those 2 into the blackboard now that more past hopes are crushed:

Erm... even as a Bayonetta fan who owns a Wii-U entirely for the sake of Bayonetta (guest starring Wonderful 101), I have absolutely no faith whatsoever that the title will make an impact on the system's fortunes. The game moved, what, two million on consoles that virtually everyone owned one or the other of and were both a better match for the target audience than the Wii-U?

I can't really comment on X, because I don't know much about it, but if it's Monster Hunter-like I wouldn't expect fireworks outside of Japan, either. The hopes and dreams of a generation all rest on the shoulders of Mario Kart, now, which at least means that strong narrative tradition supports a miraculous showing that proves the justice of our culture.

(Seriously, though. There's a reason Bayonetta 2 and X were never on the chalkboard to begin with. No one expects them to do more than nudge the worldwide monthly sales when they release, not even the hopelessly hopeful and devotedly devout.)

Don't forget about Smash Bros mate, it's gonna sell like gangbusters.

On the 3DS where the majority of the 30M userbase will be playing.

Knack outselling Mario in the UK isn't surprising.
They also preferred shitty Spectrum and Amiga games over the NES and SNES which had entire libraries of vastly superior games.
