fake edit: huh, the latest trailer on youtube is in 1080, but at youtube's quality i can't tell if it's native or not

It is hard, but it does look sharp enough even with YouTube's compression to appear as if it came from a native 1080p source, as opposed to a 720p source upscaled.

"One player must always be Donkey Kong". *sigh* As if they would actually make any last minute adjustments to this. I guess that will continue to be my only complaint about these games. Looking great otherwise.

are you saying the 1080p is taxing so they had to rachet graphics back a bit? cuz the game looks damn good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_VQOsJpAd0#t=155 I don't think the graphics are disappointing. Looks really great for a platformer like this :)

Well you'll always be able to push things a little more at lower resolutions. It does look good, it just doesn't wow me you know?
I don't mind that though, I loved Returns and I'm sure this game will be great too. I'm not that much of a graphics whore. :p

Have you seen it in the flesh? It looks amazing in the flesh.

I'm afraid I haven't, I would have loved to though! But yeah, games always do don't they?

I saw it in real life back when you could play levels at Best Buy and it definitely looked dissapointing to me, something about the textures and lighting didn't look all that much better then a higher res Wii game. If it's truly 1080p then I'll forgive it entirely and actually be impressed by what they've managed to do

1080p is very impressive. Thought it was 720 upscaled to 1080 a little while ago though. Anyway, 1080p/60 fps is very, very nice.

And David Wise alone seals this as being a great game.

1080p and 60fps? Wii U better then Xbox One?:p

It's not a very taxing game but it's nice to hear.

That's what I didn't like about the Wii game. The monsters look horrible compared to the SNES goodness we had...
Opinions and all but I can't for the life of me figure out how someone can like the Kremlins' designs other than nostalgia. DKCR's designs aren't great, but they're mostly inoffensive, I actually like the Tikis. The designs in this one look much better though. It's a very subjective thing of course.

So much platforming goodness (or godliness) on the Wii U.

Just finished SM3DW. Picking up Rayman Legends and TW101 for Christmas and then this in February. Off the charts quality.

Native 1080p was what might have pushed me over the edge to get this. I'm seriously considering buying this now, but at the same time I don't want to spend $60 on it. I'm not the biggest Donkey Kong fan even though I enjoyed the SNES games and thought DK64 was decent. If it bombs and goes on sale for $30 I'd definitely pick it up.
Did you play the first one? Pick that up for cheap and see if you like it.

So the game has everything DKC fans ever wanted

- Cranky
- Funky
- Cool levels
- DAVID WISE
- 60 fps
- 1080p
- Coop

BUT WHERE ARE THE KREMLINS?! I'll never forgive Retro for that. The monsters look like SHIT.

Just check the bees in the new trailer compared to that mother fucker:

Wait wait...
does this feature PROPER controller support (not wiimotes)?

I doubt it makes much of a difference, but when TF was scheduled for release this year, it was planning to release for $50, instead of the usual $60.

$10 difference isn't too much, but it's something.

I will say that the Snowmads so far look leagues better than the Tiki tribe who I found to be incredibly boring and a poor replacement for the Kremlings. Also it isn't just the Kremlings that are gone from the latest platformers, it is almost the entirety of the cast of the original DKC series. Returns for instance had only 5 original DKC characters which were DK, Diddy, Cranky, Rambi, and Squawks. Tropical Freeze has Dixie and Funky returning, but a lot of the original DKC characters are still missing, people just latch to K. Rool and the Kremlings since they are the most notable omissions. Things such as Animal Buddies (Squitter, Enguarde) and many non-Kremling enemies (Gnawty, Zinger, Necky) have also been left in the cold. I hope the primary reason for ditching most of the old cast was for Retro to stretch their wings and leave their own mark on the DK IP, because so far their original character designs are forgettable and lacking the strong ties that the old cast had for several years during Rare's run.

Looking at the graphics and sizing up this new information, I can only conclude that the Retro underestimated the capabilities of the Wii U. That or they didn't have the time to properly do R&D on the hardware.

100% David Wise is just awesome. The interns that worked on the first game are hopefully working where no one will give a fuck.

Totally agreed, King K. Rool was ALWAYS the nemesis of the country series. HOW CAN YOU MAKE A NEW COUNTRY GAME AND NOT PUT KREMLINS IN IT? WTF is this shit Retro? but besides that it looks really good.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Bravo if this is Native 1080 60fps.

That would mean the big 3 Nintendo titles we know coming are all gonna be 1080p in Donkey Kong, Kart, and Smash.

DK's fur looks so snazzy. The graphics look sharp and no doubt the gameplay is going to be a joy. Another title to feed my Wii U with next year.

If it's native 1080p, and we know it's 60fps, I will be VERY impressed. Seriously. I have been a little disappointed by the visuals, but if it's 1080p 60fps that would be impressive.

Wait, what?? Since when was Mario Kart running in native 1080p?

Yeah, there's no way Kart is 1080p. It has a huge graphical leap over DKCR and SSB.

I don't think Kart is 1080p, unless this is a recent development. All media has been native 720p.

Always wonder if this make a difference is played on a 720P screen? Would it a 1080P native game appear better then it would if it was a simply a 720P game running on a 720P TV?

If they have fully rendered the worlds in 3D..I find it a shame they didn't make it into a fully 3d platformer.

It looks far more impressive visually when the camera is panning around than it does when it's just sidescrolling. I would have been far more hyped for a 3D DK platformer than another sidescroller.
