Slightly Mad: "Wii U is more than capable of providing core Project CARS experience"

Hes in every Wii U thread.

I noticed. Thats why I ask.
Its really annoying when posters act as if news of Wii U's weaker specs just hit the tabloids, just to excuse posting pretend-angry posts at every mention of the system... now over a year after the thing released.

Let's not forget some gaffers were betting their barns wiiU would never get a xbone4 multiplat, so I can imagine such news might be slightly annoying to some of them ; )

All bickering aside, Slightly Mad have a guaranteed purchase in my house. Perhaps even two, if MW U was any indication (got digital + physical, for the heck of it).

Not sure of the context, but Most Wanted U was by Criterion, SM did Shift 1 & 2 which never showed up on Wii U. :(

The cost of development has already been paid.

And isn't that basically how every project works? Development studios get paid for their work (supposedly), they don't work 3 years for free and then hope the game sells enough for them to get the money. If it bombs though, after launch support for the product will die and future releases will be in question.

Tell that to Loose Cannon, who developed Tornado Outbreak for Konami, then Konami NEVER PAID THEM! :( We lost a promising team; they were formed by the CREATOR OF SLY COOPER! :'(

Konami is a shit company though. They should have sold their best IPs/teams and gone to do whatever the fuck years ago.
They don't care about anything that isn't PES and MGS. And even those are starting to stink up the room.

surprised that they are not releasing it on 360/ps3 as well if they are doing a wiiu port though

Why? WiiU is more like Xbone than 360 in design. Pretty sure they mentioned the old hd twins could not pull off enough to warrant what they wanted the game to be.

Yeah, I could have been clearer. The context was that SM have two things that guarantee a sale with me:
1. they practically have the technical expertise of Criterion on the WiiU, and
2. a sim I've wanted for a long time now, but couldn't be bothered to assemble a gaming PC for (and not getting a ps4 until a couple of years down the road).

So it's a done sale in my case.

On a loosely-related note, I still can't figure out what made Firebrand go with that hapless fast&furious license, over doing a proper Trackmania WiiU.

I wonder if they will tap into Smartglass and Vita's second screen experience, at least to some degree

I hope they don't go back to making it for the PS3 and Xbox 360. A Wii U version is fine in my book. However, I want them not to be spread out too much since they are a smaller studio

Really looking forward to this. Day 1 for me.

Analog Triggers would be nice, of course (and I'm still smarting that the pro controller lacks them) - But anyone serious enough about racing sims to care should consider a wheel/pedals, really.

Will be very interesting to see how this SKU performs for them.

I'd love to see Nintendo help them publish a retail version of the game
That's not going to happen, realistically.

Well it might not have been through Kickstarter actually, all I remember that people could "donate/support" for it. Reached 3.75million Euro funded.
Thread for it: Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75€M)
It was crowd-funded, but not a Kickstarter. The crowd funding was done entirely through their own website, AFAIK.

Nintendo should help these guys out more. Trailer looked really rough IMO though granted, it's hard to see the 'SIM' elements off a trailer.

The potential is there, definitely.

I'm sure I speak for 99.9% of Project Cars fans in saying please ditch the Wii U version, it's a pointless, worthless port, taking away time and resources from the core project(s).

And if you are a Wii U owner, what the hell are you doing playing such a game on that system. At this point, I'm sure Slightly Mad are doing this as some sort of piss take, Slightly Mad would be far better off getting this game out promptly, and supply some cool DLC - I'll give them their due, they know what the community wants in terms of cars & tracks.

What's that story about?

That's all I know and heard from other users, like this person:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=34331976&postcount=145

Don't know if there was was a public article. Either way... :'(

They actually had another title in the works, maybe one hint was from ye ol' SurferGirl who mentioned this in 2008:

5) Loose Cannon Studios', a Kirkland-based studio founded last year primarily consisting of ex-Sucker Punch folk that were the creative force behind the Sly Cooper series, debut title is "the most hilarious thing to ever come from King County" and features "mesmerizing art direction." Color me interested even though I can't recall anything real hilarious springing out of King County, so this may just the interactive equivalent of New Love, American Style.

Doesn't sound like Tornado Outbreak, and when that was unveiled they said they had a second game, I guess TO took priority.

I hope someday we see leaks of it.

Speak for yourself.

Is there any FFB-wheels for WiiU at all?.

If not, i dont see why they should release a simulator to it?.

Gyroscope controls?

I wonder what their reaction will be when it fails to sell 10,000 copies in its first month of release.

Still cool that this port exists, I suppose. Very cool that they actually intend to use the gamepad in a seemingly meaningful way.

So do you copy/paste that post in every cross-gen multiplat. Wii U game? .

No I don't. I don't need to. It's not my fault that Nintendo bought a relatively underpowered next gen system to the market. A system designed from the get go to never compete with other next gen systems in terms of performance.

What, the Wii U isn't allowed to have games, now?

Gas on right analog stick, like most sim racers have supported. And some non-sim racers.

Not optimal, but not exactly a new control scheme either.

I played Most Wanted U like this (gas on right analog) and it was awkward to say the least. Picked up Gran Turismo 5 and it felt so much better using analogs for gas/brake.

I used to play racing games on gamecube and it was glorious. The digital click on the analogs was great because with the PS3 controller I tend to press way too hard because I feel like I have to make sure I'm flooring it. With the gamecube controller it was always obviously when you had it "floored".

So analog stick gas is doable, but not ideal. No analog triggers always were and still are a faux pas.

I wonder how big of an audience there is for simulation racing games on the WiiU.

I am having a hard time thinking up a simulation racing game thats been on a Nintendo platform....

edit: i genuinely cant think of any.

There is no analog buttons or triggers on the gamepad or pro controller either. If the Wii U version is more than capable then this game is not a simulator to begin with.

Hmm... you sure? Both the 360 and WiiU are RISC while the X1 & PS4 are CISC.

Is it even coming to Wii-U

What kind of question is this lol? The developer is directly talking about the Wii U version in the OP.

What exactly was the purpose of this post?

He's just a troll. He comes into Nintendo-centric threads just to shit on them in some way.

Anyway, as far as the game goes, I'm not huge into racing sims, more of an arcadey racer guy, but I'll keep my eye on this one to see how they'll use the pad.

I just can't see the point of putting a serious racing simulator on a platform that effectively can only deliver a on/off control point for the gas and break due to the stupid decisions by the platform holder. It's a totally useless control mechanism for a racing simulator.

They definitely are, it was a stupid decision... but still.. not too worried about it. There's going to be wheels you'll be able to use with the game anyway.

Not too worried about this games, cars are one of the easier things to render, and it's got enough RAM to hold the assets required to have a full field.

That's not true. The architecture of the Wii U differs quite a bit from both of them, but in terms of hardware capabilities, it's MUCH closer to 360/PS3 than XBO/PS4. In many ways it's weaker than PS3, and its games may never eclipse some of Sony's first-party exclusives on that system.
