NFL 2013 Week 17 |OT| The Sentimental Drunk

Cap is smith's fault. But how much of the other issues were a result of the kubiak and smith equal opportunity bs they had going on? We don't really know.

Yeah I hope Smith nails the draft and they nail the coaching hire. I just have never loved the roster. I thought it got exposed pretty bad every time they got in a shootout. Defense looked slow and clueless. Offense didn't have the playmakers or pass protection to throw it around

As far as I can tell, Watt is the only legitimate selling point on the defense. Everything else is a big question mark. Offense, Andre is 33, Foster has health issues, Duane is really good, Nuk has promise. But that's not a loaded team.

As long as Linehan is gone I'm fine with it

Both are officially gone.

Travis Lewis is supposedly going to go on a Twitter rant about Schwartz's firing.

Sad. I liked him. But the suspension plus this, means he's probably gone. Not like he was a huge contributor to the team anyway...

Any player who claims allegiance to Schwartz can leave. The guy was a disaster.

Bolded are things I definitely agree with 100%. The offense's inconsistencies and tendency for ridiculous amounts of turnovers doesn't entirely fall at Stafford's feet, but we got really good at stagnating for long stretches of games and his issues did nothing to try and wake the team up. The running backs are more than serviceable, we need a new center but the rest of the O-line is young and improving. The likes of Durham, Pettigrew, and Fauria make for nice big receiving targets, but none of them have the speed to really get away from defenders, and that's where the injuries and loss of Ryan Broyles has really hurt us. If we had a speedy slot guy that could slip coverages (provided Stafford wouldn't overthrow him 80% of the time) then it makes plays on the outside to the taller guys that much easier to complete.

As far as the draft goes, this will be the third year in a row that I put my personal focus into the same area: getting a good, playmaking linebacker. Tulloch is decent and Levy had a good year, but I still don't look at that unit group and feel like it solidifies a top-level front seven or even a mid-level back seven.

A wide receiver is a far bigger need than linebacker, as we saw every game CJ was out. Burleson is now reportedly gone, so they have almost nobody. The #10 pick will have some great receivers available and there won't be much LB value at #10.

I'm ok with Whisenhunt.

Can't listen to it right now. What gets said?

Pretty much that he is snobbish. Doesn't really make an effort to befriend the other players and even passes by people like they're not there when they try to talk to him. *shrug*

My beloved Cleveland Browns are now a completely radioactive franchise. They were already half way there before yesterday, what with their felon of an owner. Now Banner and Lombardi have joined the party. Comparing them to the Three Stooges is an insult to the comedy legends. Lombardi, Banner, and Haslem aspire to someday reach the levels of competence displayed by Shemp and Curly Joe, let alone any of the original Stooges. I don't know why any player would want to play here or coach want to coach here. The president and GM have shown no patience and a hair trigger and your owner, the man who signs your checks, is essentially a convicted felon walking. I wish the training facilities were swarming in MRSA. At least you can get rid of that with a smart cleaning crew. We won't be rid of the virulent idiots in charge until whenever the FBI gets off their butts and puts the head moron in prison.

The salt in the wound is the guarantee that Chud will go somewhere else and be immediately successful. An intelligent coach fired unfairly from his dream job? He'll have a chip on his shoulder the size of the wad of money Haslem stole from his clients.

Browns presser to begin any minute, I'll post updates.
Edit: jimmy could read me some Harry potter books <3

He'd steal your wallet while he did it.

Cap is bad for 2014. I don't think the talent is as good as you guys do, but definitely agree on ownership. Very patient. Rick Smith being charge might be an issue. Not very good at what he does and a coach will have to live with that

I have the same perspective. The list Mech made could be made about any team in the NFL, that list is not impressive if you look at it in comparison to other teams. He also assumes all those guys are going to live up to their full potential, when odds are some won't and some are very injury prone.

Houston is going to be rebuilding, we aren't the Chiefs. The job is desirable because of the owner, so I do expect Houston to be at the top of the list. Why would anyone pick Washington or Cleveland over Houston under any scenario, for example?

Didn't Burleson redo his contract talking about retiring as a Lions. Why would he be gone

Also, Raiola was just on the radio and is furious that Schwartz was fired. Doesn't sound like he's back, either.

Bye, Dom. I'll miss watching you get carried into the backfield.

I feel bad for Shanny today. He didnt want either Mcnabb or RGIII and both got forced on him. Most coaches get their guys at QB. Hopefully the Skins can find someone that actually wants to work with RGIII going forward.

We were due for a new center anyway...

Not saying its not a loss, its just an inevitability.

The Bears are really dumb. How do you let Cobb or anyone get behind you at all, let alone that far behind you.

The Chiefs are dumb. Just let the Chargers win, you know you can beat them if it came down to it, versus winning and letting the Steelers in. IMO if the Steelers got in, their record would be meaningless, they got a QB thats been to the Super Bowl 3 times. Instead you end up playing almost a full extra quarter of football.

also lol at whatever steelers fan it was trying to tell me the Texans were a better team than the Steelers a few weeks ago.

The Browns are dumb. Enough said.

I loved that the first pass of the Texans season and the last pass of the Texans season were both interceptions. Fantastic symmetry.

Curious who they will take in the draft, i'm no college expert so I can't say I like one guy over any other.

I like the idea of Bill O'Brien better than any of the retreads that have been mentioned.

I do think the Texans are one of the top jobs available, just depends on if you want to go to Detroit and you think you can work with Stafford vs if you think you can find and develop a QB in the draft. Since as we all know QB is by far the most important position on the field and a good/great QB hides a lot of flaws on your team. I think getting the right QB is almost if not more important than getting the coach right.

If the new guy brings in a competent special teams coach and they are even mediocre instead of floating around dead last, then that will help both other phases of the game. The defense is ok, it needs some holes fixed but isn't nearly as bad as just looking at the numbers would suggest. The amount of turnovers putting the defense in a bad spot is astounding, as well as all the turnovers that let the other teams defense score.

Offensive line and running back need to be looked at, Foster is coming back, but is he healthy or not? As mentioned above QB is easily the most important thing to address this offseason.

I would still like to know who got final say for cutting players. Because I think Rick Smith has been drafting and bringing in some good players, Quintin Demps was brought in and let go and is doing quite well for KC. Chris Jones was drafted this past season and was cut and has 6+ sacks for the Patriots. Trindon Holliday is let go and goes on to set the world on fire for special teams. I would like to know if the things like picking Keshawn Martin over TY Hilton were kubiak decisions as rumored or not.

Hearing the Bradford thing is funny after all the players have come out and talked about how much they love Clemens. I don't think I've seen anything similar to that about Bradford.

Top rated center in football this year by PFF

I know. He really played well this year. We just need to move on.

Ziggy Ansah isn't happy with the firing, either.

I wish I thought they could win a playoff game.
Anything can happen, but I just don't think the odds are in their favor.

The "zero wins against current season playoff teams" stat is the most compelling evidence that we're one and done to me.

Then again we're getting a bit healthier and "any given Sunday" etc.

They only played three playoff teams, and all of them were on the road. Two of the losses were by a combined 10 points. It's not that compelling a stat.

We get it already, Packers are great, blah blah, Magical Super Bowl run, blah blah.

How long you guys planning on doing this for?

Winners win.

Glad I can sit back and watch playoff football next weekend without being nervous about my team's game.

Also glad I get to watch Rodgers slice and dice the Niners D and bounce them out of the playoffs in the first round.

Pretty sure tons of coaches would be more than willing to work with RG3.

Its working with Snyder that is the biggest problem. Even Shanny took the job with the understanding that Snyder wanted a big name splash QB. He didn't want McNabb but he took the job knowing they would go after a veteran QB.

He didn't want RG3 but RG3 was the only reason he even made the playoffs at all. All his other seasons he never fixed the defense. Then having his son as the OC was never a great idea. Constantly pulling power moves to send messages to RG3 was even dumber.

Whoever takes that job, if they can handle Snyder, would be glad to have a healthy RG3. They really need to fix that defense more than anything else.

As an Eagles fan I have a bad feeling RG3 is going to come back healthy and tear the division up. They already have a dominant running game.

I kind of thought it was "Clemens is bad at football but he has all these intangibles so we will talk about those to spin the positive" but I guess there was more to it

No one is fired on the Dolphins yet. WHAT THE FUCK!!!!

That stupid asshole Ireland needs to be gone already. And fuck this band together we all believe in each other shit. Philbin wants to keep Sherman too bad, your both fired.
Like I said, if Ireland didn't get fired for telling Dez Bryant that his mother is a whore, I fear nothing will get him fired.

Rick Stroud ‏@NFLSTROUD 54s
The #Bucs decision to fire Schiano and Dominik came down to 2 main things: No return on a huge investment in free agents and Darrelle Revis

But he's a Pro Bowler!

-_-

Rick Stroud ‏@NFLSTROUD 27s
And the second reason: hey didn't see any improvement in the team moving forward. 11-21 record, the middle of pack defense, 32nd offense

Honestly I can accept Dom's view on Schwartz a lot more than anyone elses. He's been here through some ugly shit, and has seen how long the organization held on to bad coaches/GMs. So yea, I can see why he'd be upset that the one guy who "turned things around" got shafted, in his view. I disagree but I get where he's coming from.

Whoever becomes coach or OC better use Bell and Bush at the same time. I think Bell is clearly the better RB at this stage, whereas Bell is a greater pass threat. Having both on the field+Megatron+solid 2nd WR+Fauria would be very potent.
