I hope the drought results in a lot of new people buying Rayman when it comes out in Feb. . Sales were below expectations according to Ubisoft, so it should be new to a lot of people.

To be fair, none of those are dated yet.

Tomb Raider, thief and FF14 are though.

Also If you look at PS360 releases this isn't unusual, this is just a lack of games in Jan/Feb as is standard.

EDIT: and as another poster pointed out, Rayman too.

And yet retailers aren't hacking the price down :(

I have to admit this has surprised me. I was certain that there would be massive firesales by now. That said, January sales across the board, outside of the normal tesco wild goose chases, have be pretty lackluster.

Currys are selling the premium for 179.99, if that helps.

Microsoft really needs to work on converting those active 360 owners.

Overall an impressive showing in the software charts for next-gen, especially for PS4. This is night-and-day stuff compared to Wii U's launch.

Wii U software completely gone from the value chart as well. Usually you'd normally see Mario 3D in there at least.

And there's also one more game for the XBone in the value chart than the PS4 chart (9 vs 8), though of course PS4 games are outselling there XBone equivalents. XBone's been putting up a decent fight in hardware/software so far but we'll see how things tail off now people are skint after Xmas as to whether the gap increases.

Aye, always the case with a new console. I'm eagerly awaiting Driveclub, I hope that arrives sooner rather than later.

On the plus side, I picked up another Vita for the missus with LBP and Tearaway, so now we can play Terraria co-op whilst I wait for the PS4 floodgates to open.

Me too. I have every faith Driveclub will be great given how awesome the Motorstorms have been.

And similarly I find myself playing Vita more and more... Muramasa, Bit Trip Runner 2 & P4G are far more compelling to me at the moment. I have yet to give Terraria a fair crack of the whip yet, it looks highly addictive.

Retail can only do so much. While Nintendo has set no RRP, that doesn't mean retail is free to price it as low as it needs to be to sell. They need to turn a profit on these things, so they can't sell them for less than they bought them from Nintendo for, unless they're clearing stock.

In the end, pricing the system to move rests entirely with Nintendo.

They'd normally appear here, but it looks like they've gone away for the new generation :(
Was there a tear in your eye as she opened it?

When retailers start doing non sale mark downs then nintendo should be worried. Cause that means they are clearing out stock and probably won't be ordering more.

If the leaked Driveclub and Watch_Dogs dates for March are true, it's looking a bit better.

I am pretty sure the Watch Dogs date is wrong. Previously it sounded more like Ubi might be looking at next fiscal year with a release.

Indeed, the potential there is huge, the longer they leave the bone unappealing the more the PS4 mindshare will spread and convert.

Never underestimate peer pressure and word of mouth, something sony has the advantage with this gen with better tech and price.

Next-gen software has pretty much taken over at this point. PS4 really setting the tone for the upcoming months though.

Funny how EA's multiplats are selling the most on the PS4.

01 (05) PS4 FIFA 14 (ELECTRONIC ARTS)
08 (17) PS4 BATTLEFIELD 4 (ELECTRONIC ARTS)
22 (29) PS4 NEED FOR SPEED: RIVALS (ELECTRONIC ARTS)

If the leaked Driveclub and Watch_Dogs dates for March are true, it's looking a bit better.

What are the leaked dates?

People buying Knack over 3D World should be arrested and put in a program. But really, its so very wrong.

How many people do you think have both a wii U and a PS4 and are making the decision to buy knack over 3D world? This is just a clear indication that consumers want the PS4 and as such its software is going to sell more. The occasional good game isn't going to turn that tide and unfortunately for nitnendo even games like 3D world are going to get buried. The drop off for some of their big franchises from last gen to this gen is going to be catastrophic. Outside of something like guitar hero i'm not sure where else we would have seen drops like what we're going to.

Knack>Mario again

Man I loved this sequence.

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
"Grand Theft Auto V' (-64%) is currently the 4th biggest selling game ever in the UK and if sales remain strong it could well become the biggest selling game of all time within the next 3 months"

This pleases me.

Im not sure what Microsoft can do. They have already had a massive ad campaign over xmas, sponserships and endorsments and nearly every live connected player has had an advert for the Xbox one plastered on their home screen everytime they sign in.

Yep I realise that. Its just a damn shame. If you showed Mario 3D World and Knack side by side to a parent, 100% of them would go for Mario. Nintendo is just doing a very poor job selling their own games as a result of doing a poor job of selling their console.

Software sells hardware, not the other way around. The people have spoken and they want Knack.

Ehhhhh i don't know about this. One piece of software isn't going to suddenly change the fortunes of a dying piece of HW no matter how good it is. Knack is selling well on HW that is moving incredibly fast but i'm not sure what else we can tell than that. I'd say it's most likely that people are picking up PS4's for other reasons and knack is getting picked up along with it (there aren't that many games for PS4 available so far).

But 3D world is just one game. The wii U release schedule has been and looks to continue to be far to sparse. This same problem plagued the 64 and GC and is a big part of what led them to failure (amongst many other things obviously).

Well neither me or my brother would own Knack if it wasn't the only bundle we could get a hold of, so it is a bit of a rare exception. Both had fun with it though at least.

I'm technically part of the problem since my 3D World purchase was digital too. OH WELL.

Shouldnt they have announched it by now. because the game will be going GOLD soon if it is releasing in Feb. So an announcement should have been given..

Not every game gets a gold announcement.

Although if we haven't heard anything regarding a date by the middle of the month, I would say its increasingly unlikely to hit by the end of Feb.

I don't think last gen is going to go away any time soon, I've seen both the new 360 E console and the PS3 super slim for £99 recently and until the day comes when Battlefield, Call Of Duty, FIFA and Assassins Creed do not appear on 360/PS3 some people will not have any motivation to spend £349-£429.

Plus last gen versions of those games, which don't look that different to the average joe to next gen versions have been in the £20-£30 bracket while the next gen versions are almost £50.

March is already packed anyway. If not February then April or beyond please.

I'd prefer March. I just want the Plus edition at this point and then by the time it comes around to buying the full thing, it should be down in price.

I think a £30 reduction when titanfall comes out will work wonders. £400 Titanfall bundle and the 360 owners will bite.

The PS3 software is the first casualty of the next generation transition, even the XBone software is catching up to it.
Also Farming Simulator 2013 > Super Mario 3D World... 'nough said.

Battlefield 4? Its night and day how different they look.

I've got Battlefield 4 on PS4, X1 and 360, I can see the difference but if you look at a quick demo of the single player or the box itself the average punter is not going to buy a new console for the difference.

It isn't until you spend time with the multiplayer that the huge differences become obvious.

Bought both, I enjoy Mario a lot more when I'm playing with more people though, I don't really play it solo; Knack, I enjoy playing solo though.

Without Mattrick, who was a key link between EA and Microsoft "partnership" and these kinds of charts, i question whether you will see EA leaning and cuddling with Microsoft come E3 in half a year.

So if Knack keeps outselling Mario does that mean we might get Knack 2?

Depends how well it's done in the US, especially seeing as how there's not a bundle over there.

EDIT: Just found this in the November NPD thread :

Courtesy of Creamsugar and others:

0.22-0.27 million units - Killzone: Shadowfall

0.21-0.22 million units - Dead Rising 3
0.20-0.22 million units - Super Mario 3D World
0.185-0.20 million units - Forza Motorsports 5
0.185-0.2 million units - Ryse: Son of Rome
0.09-0.10 million units - Knack

Maybe not unless Japan picks up the slack, which is a shame.
