He was head coach option 2 for us behind Kingsbury and I would have had no problem at all with hiring him. IMO he would be the head coach for either A&M or Baylor right now if Sumlin or Briles had left this offseason as they were rumored to be. Really wants to get back to the state of Texas, apparently.

I thought he was a lock for SMU and was shocked that they kept June Jones.

Golden Domers are chickenshit!!
I've seen some people say Alabama should go after Morris.

I doubt he'd come, or we could actually pay an assistant HC-Money, which I think he already is making at Clemson.

Also, Tre Mason going to the NFL.
I'd be okay with Chad Morris. We could trade Clemson Cristobal and a coach to be named later for him.

There's a shitload of skill position talent right now at Alabama. Anyone could go in there and produce a solid offense.

As an aside, IF we do hire Kiffin, does this count as part of his lifelong trend of failing upward? USC head coach to Bama OC?

Bama OC is only an upgrade from USC HC if that USC HC is Kiffin :p

I think Kiffin will be fine, or at least not a complete disaster. Saban will keep him in line and probably keep him from going full retard with the playcalling.

As great of a program Alabama is, I don't think a coordinator position at Bama is more prestigious than the head coaching job at USC. Now, if Kiffin was also named "coach in waiting" at Alabama, then that would be different.

Just rewatched part of the MNC with the coaches all talking. It is amazing to me that all of them thought Jimbo messed up not calling a TO to prevent the delay of game. Why would you do that. They had 1 TO. If you do that and then the pass on 3rd down doesn't get out of bounds or to the first down marker you are pretty much fucked. You have to save the TO just like Jimbo did. Further proof that very few college coaches understand how to use TOs and that sometimes it is worth giving up 5 yards to save a TO.

Larry Johnson to leave PSU. There's probably going to be a fight for him as he is the best recruiter in the northeast right now.

Kiffin doesn't trust young QBs - isn't Bama breaking in a new one next season?

Also, the fact that he was fired by an esteemed program but is potentially becoming the OC at the preeminent program in the country is absolutely failing upwards.

I don't want to defend anything Kiffikens, but Probation and scholarships handcuffed him, same way with Mike Shula.

Looks like Clemson's old DC, the one Saban hired and let him stay in a cubicle for awhile, Kevin Steele, will be DC at Louisville.

Branduil: Any Coordinator is going to be making less than a large college HC. Stop being a statist.

Try actually beating us before making such a silly statement. :)

Remember, folks - football didn't exist until '94.

Insecure perfectly describes your fans when they make the trip to Autzen. Or maybe delusional is a better word...

I'd be pretty insecure too if I had to worry about people throwing urine and batteries at me while I'm trying to watch a football game.

Even your locals are turning their back on UDUB

http://instagram.com/p/i9MnUUQKyR/

There are plenty of bandwagon Oregon fans here and all over the West Coast, not surprising. But 1) he didn't go to UW, and 2) these bandwagoners are clearly all there for the Nike fashion, not for winning football.

Or maybe they're just obsessed with UW, and replay a game from 20 years ago every weekend instead of celebrating what's actually going on in that game.

.@LanternSports: Multiple reports indicate that OSU defensive line coach coach Mike Vrabel is leaving the Buckeyes to coach at the Houston Texans.

Fuuuuuuuuck, probably best recruiter on our staff

Cedric Reed is returning for his senior season at Texas. This is pretty huge for Texas as he was was probably the best player on the D line.

I don't want Franklin. Something is wrong with our AD and President if they can't get a former Penn State football player from THE 80s (!!) to leave Miami to coach at Penn State.

I think Franklin is a really good coach. Why the fuck would you want that scrub Golden over him?

They never bothered to offer Golden.

Here's a reason why.

"Just wanted To Thank You Guys

For setting our program back 3 years.

The
damn guy played for you and is obsessed with JoePa and you couldn't
offer him a damn contract on time? He dresses like the man, for fvck's
sake. In south Florida!! This dope waddles around our sideline dressed
like a McDonald's manager while clinging to life in sweltering heat.
He's covered in butt sweat with a face redder than a baboon''s assss
before the ball is even kicked off. Every home game is a fight for his
life.

He went 0-4 against the 4 best teams on our schedule this year. Average score 17-42.

He's 1-12 against teams that won 8 or more games while at Miami.

His best friend allows 500 yards a game while eating his own boogers in the booth.

We
personally helped him pack and were ready to drive him to the airport
and you fcking blew it. I hope Nunchuck becomes your coach and all his
limbs fall off on opening weekend. A pox on your homes and families for
sending us this transfat loving, gluten shoveling, lumpy fa--ot. Take
him back already. We hope his tie gets caught in a high-powered ceiling
fan.

I hope your Athletic director gets crabs.

Cheers."

lol at that piece. And I guess I just am not too familiar with him since he's from the SEC. Golden seemed like a college coach for life without NFL aspirations. I don't know much about Franklin but I guess that's what it was with O'Brien.

I'll be there on the season opener no matter what though

Hey, Andy. Looks like your DB coach resigned. Congrats!
Huzzah! Just saw that. Makes my night. He resigned for personal reasons. As much as I wanted him gone, I hope nobody threatened him or his family. People take things too seriously sometimes. I am more hopeful about next season already.

Is this going to have any sort of effect on any incoming recruits? I don't really follow recruiting at all.

It shouldnt, but Vrabel was a big name NFL guy who was young. Wont be hard to find a replacement for the position coaching but the recruiting.

Still at the end of the day Urban sells the school more than any other coach so.

I love this month of recruiting, everything goes so crazy. There was the Zaycoven Henderson stuff on Wednesday and then yesterday we stole a CB recruit from Miami that nobody really realized we were still even in on. Last season in January we went from not even realizing our coaching staff was recruiting the state of Georgia very hard to grabbing 4 high school commits + a JUCO guy originally from the state. In addition to what Tech has already seen this season you have Texas with a new coaching staff so who knows what's going to happen there.

I know a lot of people here don't really follow recruiting very much but for me the recruiting rush in January (plus NFL playoffs, of course) is a nice way to cushion the blow of the season being over.

There's been some rumblings that Dee Hart (RB) may transfer to UCF during the off-season. If so, you guys are getting one of Saban's favorite players who would have been a hell of a speed back if he hadn't blown out both knees.

With his tackling on kickoff returns, I'm surprised he didn't get moved to Safety. I guess height was the issue.

There's been that Tabor mess. 5 star CB, committed to Florida, then Florida sucked so he backed out, chose Arizona over Alabama a couple days ago, now enrolled back in Florida.

Safety we were relatively fine at coming INTO the season. Moving him mid-season would have had him running into the whole "learning the complicated defense" issue that kept a lot of our DBs off the field.

Learning the complicated defense, I hear that issue mentioned a lot at Georgia as well. Since Grantham is a Saban disciple, I wonder if we experience the same issues. Some were saying this last year that if his defense is so complicated and his players so young, maybe he needed to simplify it.

Or, in this new age of HUNH, where the point of teams is to try to make your defense irrelevant, complicated defenses and specialized sub packages are now a detriment, instead of a plus.

Preach it, brother. So many times this year, especially earlier in the year, you'd see the secondary or line watching the sideline to see what the new call was, and sometimes they weren't even set or didn't know the alignment prior to snap. I think they may have simplified the checks later in the year, though Grantham denied that it needed to be done, said the calls were fine and that the freshmen were getting them and just needed to execute the plays.

At the end of the day, lining up and knowing what you're doing is better than going up against a hurry up offense, then having to look to the sideline to see if the call changed, then running through your head what you're now supposed to do. Just set the defense and let them try to execute their assignments. When you have upperclassmen that understand the playbook inside and out, you can change the defense more.

Some UGA players now in the pros said that Grantham's playbook was much more complicated than what they're doing in the pros. He really needs to simplify this offseason.
