if a mod can please lock this tread, cant have a nice conversation without the PC wrongful and bad blooded comparisons, sad

Chillout man. As someone considering to buy this game for the PS4, id be very interested in seeing a PC comparison too... Although after watching this comparison iv seen enough, i might pick it up second hand. Or when it hits the 20e mark.

ill be interested to know if this version has tessellation, hopefully it does, will wait on digital foundry before picking this up, but definitely on my radar

I don't believe it does, but I do believe they've upped the number of polygons in the environments substantially, and I doubt they did it by hand.

I'm not sure what's impressive about this. They'd have a lot more room to work with if they cut such a gimmicky effect out. They may have even had a shot at 60fps.

Well, just saying its a quite demanding effect. You cant achieve a steady 60fps with TressFx on PC unless you're using a titan or a 7970, so, asking for a PS4 to do that is just wishful thinking.

of course they are, but following your question, a comparison video between ps3 and ps4, not ps4 and pc

Considering that the only changes they've made are graphical, it's logical that people are comparing between systems. Btw thread whining is not recommended on GAF.

Yeah it looks nicer than PS3 but will Joe Bloggs think it's worth bothering?

As already mentioned I'm sure when I played this maxed with TressFX she had more hair.

The one on the right is noticeably better in pretty much every technical way.
Except she looks like a blow-up doll. The detail boost is appreciated though.

There's just nothing at all distinctive about the new face, which at the very least was a quality the original one had.

If you don't have a gaming PC and passed it up on PS360, then this is for you. But this is probably a small audience considering the game sold very well despite SE's absurd expectations. I don't expect it to move many copies. But then again, it was an easy port. They just take the PC version, find the right balance of High/Ultra to get 30fps stable, modify Lara's face (probably the most resource demanding thing they did) and voila - easy profit assuming it sells at least some.

I honestly feel Bioshock Infinite should do this too. The game looks beautiful in 1080+ on High/Ultra on PC, but most of the people who played this game unfortunately suffered through it on PS360. For those who have PS4 and don't have a gaming PC, I think that option is good for them.

The $60 price is silly though. It should be $30, maybe $40 tops.

Her new face reminds me of the new faces for the FFX HD port - they're more detailed, but empty and weird.

at least watch the video man. this has a number of improvements over the PC version (even if it falls behind it in other areas).

Didnt know they had an A button on PS4....

It's a circle around a triangle when you fullscreen it.

my PC has a 7970 and couldn't achieve a steady 60 fps (at least not in 3D as I played it). mainly due to my processor, I think, but all the same. I enjoyed playing with Tress FX on rather than playing with it off at 60 fps. I will enjoy playing it at a (hopefully) locked 30 fps with other enhancements.

since I had to scale down detail (basically the LOD setting) I will definitely appreciate that the PS4 version has drastically improved draw distance.

Everything is shrouded in darkness most of the time anyway. Not worth 60 dollars. I did enjoy it on 360 when it was 15 though. Looked and played great (solid 30 FPS most of the time). Cant imagine paying 60 for the very same game, especially given how awful the multiplayer component is.

Did they hire someone from Team Ninja to do her new face or something?
Most of the upgrades are not that great (other than one area in that video), I also notice that they are not using tessellation on Lara, unlike what the PC version supports.

the new face is better, its just we are used to the old face, remember when you first saw the old face? I atleast went ehh. but grew to like it. the new face going forward with the sequels is a better move then sticking with the old face. They also got the skin color right. That said, I played it on high on PC and can't justify $60.

I traded in my PS3 copy of TR to help offset the cost of the PS4 version. I can't wait to play through this game again. New Lara is way better also.

Was actually more impressed by how good the game looks in ps3. Is the game actually good? I sold my 360 and never had the chance to play this game and I'm thinking about buying it for PS4.

How are we supposed to compare them and compare how the textures look from a crappy streaming low res video? Huge pet peeve of mine.

Yep, it's a port.
Looks better than, of course.. But it's a port regardless of justification.

I'd double dip, if it wasn't just an Uncharted Clone. Maybe when i can find it in the bargain bin, which shouldn't be to long after release, imo.

Ehhhh..... kind of prefer the PS3 version, that TressFX hair is super weird. But I'm dying for something new to play on PS4 :(

Had no idea the ps3 version looked this vile (only played it on pc)

anyhow, this is SE saying 'please buy that game you already bought last year again, at the full console premium'

That face is worth at least ten times more protection for sure.

don't slay me I actually really loved TR

Still not sure if I want to get it or not. I have it on PC, but my PC's not as powerful as the PS4 so this will certainly look better. Plus I really want to stream it.

Some minor improvements but nothing that will make the gaming experience much better. Definitely not worth $60. Also the hair still looks weird.

It looks like they turned down the contrast on the PS3 side. (reason #mumbleteen why you shouldn't trust developer-released comparison videos)

It's a good start. It'll be interesting to see how they go from here when they create assets from ground up on their continually improving engine for current gen only.

I was surprised about the sub-surface scattering. I thought it was already implemented in games last gen.

From look at the video I still find it very hard for them to justify the $60 cost. Definite no thank you for people like me who has already purchased the game. If they outright said that this really is geared towards those that never played the game yet then that would be more understandable, but $60 is still too much.

Thanks for this.

I think I'll pick it up for PS4. You made sure to articulate your critiques and I appreciate it.

Side note: not toward the poster I responded to.

When will threads involving PS4/XBone games and graphics stop becoming PC evangelist shitfests?!?!

If I wanted a PC for gaming, I'd get one. I don't care if the fancy whiz-bang 4000 can run at ultramax settings and a steady 1,202,048 FPS. It has nothing to do with the topic. I don't get how that irrelevant discussion/latent port begging hasn't been more banworthy?

I don't trounce into 3DS topics or Vita topics trumpeting vice versa or WiiU, PS4, etc....

Edit: in the context of the video, the game looks better than the PS3 comparison. I'm pleased, Lara no longer looks like an automaton.

PS4 edition looks good. My PC experience was a shade below that at 1080P outside of the improved hair effects. TressFX (or whatever) destroyed my 560Ti + mid level quad core when I tried to run it. Went from a solid 60FPS to like 15-25FPS.
