MGSV: Ground Zeroes achievements LEAKED! (SPOILER ALERT)

Like others in the thread I am not happy with how this is being handled and released but I will buy it day 1. I could have held off my MGS fanboy urges alone but with the current next gen game drought I'm pretty much buying anything new on PS4.

And thats just sad. MGS4 was the perfect opportunity to end the saga and finish with the series, leaving it for a another director to reboot or something. The lack of faith in those guys and his obsession with the series led to all this. He cant just letting go of it and Konami needs to milk the series, because its their flagship. Still, there was no reason to ruin so many of the characters that he established over the years and give answers to question that nobody asked. I really hope he focusses more on subtle things in MGSV, just like he did in MGS3, which had some really good writing.
well, mgs4 wasn't always his project, a lot like mgs3 wasn't up until the point where development wasn't going along smoothly

i mean, the big point of that e3 2005 teaser trailer was that kojima was back in the director's chair after the series was meant to pass along to shuyo murata, and if anything the way mgs4 was split into having several acts directed by different people sort of makes it seem like mgs4 was an audition for kojima's successor above all else, it seems to me that kojima just didn't care for mgs4 and wanted it to be comprehensively an ending to his own stories and give a clean and baggage-free break to the new guys (which it did when platinum's rising materialised)

on the subject of rising, i think the original version of the game is really the proof that kojima coming back over and over again isn't that he's overly precious with the metal gear franchise. it's not that kojima productions lacks talent it's just that nobody is really all that equipped to step into such large shoes, and the people who might like shinta nojiri just don't want to do it

yeah mgs4 ruined a lot of shit, but it was probably out of a lack of creative drive, depression, and ultimately just wanting to end it in as absolute a way as possible

on the plus side, kojima seems to have got his mojo back with peace walker by i guess realising he can make the games he wants to make... so long as they're within a metal gear shaped wrapper. yeah singing robots are dumb and not everybody enjoyed the quasi-monster hunter elements and boss battles, but it was an overall more optimistic game with more life in it than mgs4

Hey, did we know this was going to have some kind of second-screen implementation?Seems like you can have some kind of map on a tablet/smartphone.

Although I'm a huge fan of the lore of MGS, I believe the best way for the series to go forward would be not a reboot, but completely different cast and events within the same universe, kind of like what Mass Effect is apparently doing. Make it so that the events of the previous games are like these legendary things in the past that are almost an urban myth/historical mystery to the main chars, and create a whole new saga involving them from scratch. In a sense this is what Rising kinda did, but different genre and it obv. had Sunny and Raiden. Retire Snake and make a new cast take the centre stage, keep the tropes like the crazy villains, humour, the boxes. This is just what I would do, feel free to shoot me down or whatever.

That said, I'm glad for MGSV and that we're covering the darker parts of Big Boss's journey from 60's CIA hero to very much broken, elderly extremist, but this is the game that almost brings it completely full circle to the original Metal Gear.

That said, wouldn't be opposed to Hayter vs Sutherland in a modern remake of the retro games.

You said "what we know so far" 3 times.

Mother Base is burnt to ashes. We see Big Boss in a helicopter flying away and Kaz is on board too and shows signs of fury. There is no sign of Chico or Paz when that scene is shown. We don't know what happens after that. We don't know how much time passes until Big Boss goes into a coma. Kojima did say that Ground Zeroes at least the Chico rescue mission happens at night. Might be the whole night in real-time who knows which gives us several hours.

The "Deja Vu" trailer had a short segment where it demonstrates a daylight operation showing Big Boss in a helicopter looking at Camp Omega getting bombed by a flying jet. Now we know that this is not part of "Deja Vu" mission since in the latter we play as an MGS1 Snake while the Camp Omega scene shows GZ Big Boss. Here's what I am talking about:

How can you explain that?

I imagine this is the culmination of the take out the AA defences mission.

Yeah there's been a few pics and it was talked about before, it might be supported by New Gen consoles only if I understand correctly.

Peace Walker is my favourite game in the series in terms of gameplay and had so much fun playing the Extra-Ops with friends online and put in more than 90 hours in my first playthrough and that's not something you would normally say about any of the Metal Gear games.

That being said, the MGSV experience which is Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain put together is going to be Peace Walker 2.0 which is by no means a bad thing. In fact this might turn up to be the best game in the series and probably one of the best games to come for many years. If you are a fan of Peace Walker and was blown away by the amount of things you could do and most importantly if you are like me and others who wondered what Peace Walker would have been like if it was designed on a console then you should know by now that the answer for this question would be MGSV.

Anyone who played and enjoyed Peace Walker would understand the excitement of some of the fans who are willing to pay alot more than 40$ to play the prologue and then pay whatever price tag they decide on to play the main game.

MGSV is the game that Kojima always wanted to create. He said that himself, he didn't do it because Konami asked him to do it. He didn't do it because his team were lacking confidence after their attempt at doing Rising. He did it because he finally figured it out after 26 years of experience. Yes it took him that long to finally come out and say "that's the game I always wanted to create". I can link you to the source if you still have your doubts.

When he was doing MGS4, that game was suppose to be an open world game but then Kojima and team realised that the PS3 was not totally the beast Sony promised it would be so things changed. When asked whether MGS4 achieved his original vision Kojima replied saying that it only managed to achieve 1 out 10 steps that Kojima originally planned for the game which is pretty bad if you'd ask me.

After he showed the Red Band trailer, he had an interview with Geoff Keighley and the latter asked him the same question and if that was his vision and Kojima replied "that is the game I always wanted to do". That's golden right there.

That moment sealed the deal for me even though I was going to buy it on day 1 anyway.

Yes, there is a thread dedicated to this!

Seems that way! He has shown the game's menu from the PS3/Xbox 360 version of the game a few times now, but this one of the first current-gen in-game screens of Ground Zeroes, yes.

Noticed the jaggies on the post near the left side.

we've had a few ps3/current gen screens in september when the gameplay demos were happening for the press before tgs

Those were 720p 'PC at console specs' shots. I don't think this will really be 720p :/

eh... i'll hold out on being optimistic that it'll look like that, considering the screens had an abysmal amount of jaggies

That's just because there was no anti aliasing, but the screen above seems to show a very low horizontal resolution (something like 640 wide!) It's possible they are using a dynamic horizontal resolution like a few other PS3 games like Wipeout HD do, so maybe it varies between 1280x720 and 640x720.

Screenshots from The Phantom Pain looked absolutely gorgeous but then again it might have been from the next-gen version.

I'm keen to see it on PS3, to see how it stacks up against MGS4 and even games like The Last of Us. According to Kojima the original Ground Zeroes gameplay was running on PS3/360 specs. I want to see if that was bullshit.

I've always been a bit cautious about that because it's easy to show something at target console specs for so long but then find it's harder to actually implement that on a console (PC will naturally perform amazingly using those lower settings) There's no doubt that consoles could run screens like that, but maybe not at an acceptable framerate...
They have admitted that it might not look exactly like that in terms of resolution and maybe texture quality, I can't remember now.

so what does that mean for anti-aliasing solutions for the current gen versions?

i guess we have to wait

How could you possibly tell that? A mission can take hours if it develops into several objectives. The story obviously won't be about rescuing Chico or Paz only. The situation develops after that.

Dont you know? games are very short. Like Ni Nu Kuni is soooo short, all you have to do is defeat the white witch. Fallout NV is soooooo short, just kill the guy that shot you at the start.

Simple.

Except MGSV GZ is nothing like Peace Walker, since it has no co op. Playing PW alone was boring.

If it plays anything like MGS 4, then I'll be happy. It upscaled to 1080p nicely on PS3. Is this on the new FOX engine, or is it using the MGS 4 one for PS3/360 versions?

Interesting. I wonder what kind of improvements it has. I thought MGS 4 was pretty spectacular. Some of the action scenes was just jaw dropping. Dat fight scene.

Yeah! The FOX Engine was actually created for current-generation hardware, however the engine does allow for easier scaling to next-gen machines. The game is designed around photorealism and it looks pretty spectacular.

EDIT: The ENGINE is designed around photorealism. The game is designed around gameplay, of course! :)

ah well, i kind of expected current gen versions to look kinda gross anyway

i wonder if there are any differences in the polycount of any of the main assets
Expect the last gen versions to look beautiful. Only thing to worry about is some frame drops but who knows KP might blow our minds.

Regarding the polycount, the answer is no. It is a cross-gen game and not solely a next-gen game which is a huge difference. Kojima doesn't want to sacrifice quality in the last gen versions just so that the next-gen look better. He wants all versions to play the same.

Cross-Gen games suffer since developers have all the resources they need to create something spectacular yet they can't use pretty much any of those resources because they have to limit themselves to what the previous gen can offer otherwise those versions would look and play terrible. Which is why I am saying expect the PS3 version to look and play as good as the PS4 with minor differences. All those Gigs of rams available for nothing.

MGS4's engine wasn't built for Open World gameplay. FOX Engine is built the way it is for 2 reasons, streamlined Open World play and realistic, easy to implement textures and modeling (cut down overhead). Please watch the GDC 2013 FOX Engine panel for a better idea of what I'm saying.

Yeah, Konami really needs to clear up the air here

This is coming. Keep an eye on press.

Damn, thanks for clarifying. Totally forgot to mention the most important reason for the FOX Engine's existence -- Open World!

Here is a link to an unofficial(?) video from the GDC presentation "Photorealism Through the Eyes of a FOX: The Core of Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes". Hope this helps!

Yup. Because it's his fault...

Him personally? no but Konami? Yes, and he works for Konami so I want to put my point across.

You admitted yourself earlier in the thread that there was too much misinformation about this game, ultimately that's Konami's fault as the publishers and marketers of their own product obviously.

I would really prefer Mgs/Mgs2/Mgrr style vr missions over peace walkef side ops. Maybe in Phantom Pain.

I'm a massive Metal Gear fan. My avatar is from obscure Metal Gear Rising (the canceled one) concept art.

This is also going to be my first delayed Metal Gear Solid purchase. It feels like a cash grab. I'm a huge fan but I'm not money cattle, and I won't be farmed on a whim. Ground Zeroes has to justify its price, it doesn't get a pass like all of the MGS games prior to it. And so far I've seen nothing that gives me faith in it.

Its fine if you dont feel this is worth the money but to think Kojima has betrayed you cause he went this route is so weird to me. He is not forcing you to buy this game. He has been clear that this is a prologue to a main game.

If he listened to you people I would not have a new Metal Gear game to play this year and that would piss me off. I am sick of waiting, its been over 5 years GIVE ME CONSOLE METAL GEAR. MGS gameplay is worth far more than most any other games, I am sure I will get more out of my $40 of this game than almost all full releases this year.

This is for the fans. Yes I will pay the money. Give it to me now.

This is coming. Keep an eye on press.

This month? Someone on an MGS Forum I go to posted this two weeks back, so I've been waiting for something to hit about that but nothing thus far.

Happy New Year all!

I've just spoken to a senior Community Manager of Konami on twitter. I asked him if there was anything he could tell me about the Story Length of GZ (not inc. Side missions) as some fans are concerned.
He told me the following:

"News will be coming soon on that. Keep the faith"

Fingers crossed for at least a decent 3 hours.

I hope we don't have to wait too much longer and it quells fears, as opposed to something that will just escalate the madness.

That sounds like one of our UK reps (we don't have any positions with Community Manager in the name in my office). But I would echo the thought.

I really hate that the word we've had to use so far is 'prologue', mostly because it makes more sense as a translation from Japanese. American consumers aren't sure what to do with it as a term. If it were up to me, I'd start promoting it as the first chapter of MGSV. But that's semantics and marketing speak and all sorts of boring stuff so I'd rather not get hung up on that.

I hope we don't have to wait too much longer and it quells fears, as opposed to something that will just escalate the madness.

This may be too much to ask for. I think at any point the most you can hope for is to sway the undecided. People are really passionate about their 'gaems and plenty here have shown that they will be rather rigid in their belief.

Thank you for the information. Can you please let us know when to expect that information? We're going into February soon and that month is only 28 days :p so it has to be asap to give people some time to start preparing :) Is it going to be held at an event or an official KONAMI press document?
