Sure Zelda is important and all that but it's still Link's job to do the heavy lifting and she's still the reward at the end.

The devs also talked about how they spent a lot of time debating about making her attractive for the player and kept iterating on her appearance to reinforce that. Not exactly a positive example of female representation. Hell, she

At best, she's another example of how regressive Nintendo can be sometimes when it comes to their princesses. Great that they gave her personality that in turn wants to buck tradition but they still have her reinforce the tradition by having her needing to be saved by Link, again...

Granted, I think her love of science is a really redeeming part of the character. It gives her this kind of nerdy bent that's fun to watch, especially since it's when she is most allowed to be her true self without dealing with the fact that she has to stop the apocalypse, which in turn makes her more empathetic. The good ending solidifies that for me, when she says she's happy not dealing with all of the bullshit anymore, and I'm hoping that the Champion's ballad stuff will give us a Link and Zelda partnership that's a lot more entertaining and empowering.
