So here I thought this whole time that the Gopher's were ranked because of the coach's poll, but then I see the official rankings and I have my heart yanked out. It's like scoring the winning touchdown only to having it called back for offensive PI, and losing to a fat kid who steals sea food from grocery stores.

Does he have a degree from a lower division college?Still...
Yeah we're going to need more info. Did he lose a bet? Does he have a kid at one of the schools and is just trying to support them? Does he actually cheer on both football teams when they play?

There are more people here than I'd like who claim to be both OU and OSU fans.

But of course, they always root for OU when we play each other.

OSU will have truly made it as a football program when the hate is so strong that this shit stops. Might help if we beat them once in a while.

Good thinking.

I'll ask him if he calls a football field a pitch too.

I dunno. He might really be a GT fan. Does he look anything like this? If so, he may be telling the truth.

Its a good test to see if he is English or from a Commonwealth nation....pitches are rectangular; fields are anything other than round, oval or rectangular.

However, Georgia would be a former English colony (guessing its named after King George). Does the field of play commonly get called pitch on the east coast (former English colonies)?

The only people who call fields pitches are soccer hipsters desperately trying to be European.

haha.

However, Id honestly like to know when the term deviated from "pitch" to "field". From my understanding, American football originated from rugby, which is played on a pitch.

Football (soccer) pitch, field hockey pitch, rugby pitch, hurling pitch, cricket pitch etc. All rectangular.

Im not trying to start an argument but it just seems crazy to me that it cant be called a pitch.

You can usually spot these types pretty easy. Just ask them what their favorite beers are. If 3 or more of them are IPAs, then you know you've got a communist socialist soccer hippie on your hands.

I don't really care what people call it, it's just that no one really calls it a pitch. If someone wants to call it that, more power to them.

A bit of googling suggests that it's the other way around. That "pitch" didn't come on the scene until well after American and UK sports diverged. Dunno the guy's sources on that, though.

That makes sense in terms of the timeline.

I didn't realise that American football was relatively new sport though. It's even younger than Australian football (not rugby, but the completely Australian rules football).

Hell yes. UGA is asking for reinstatement for Todd Gurley today.

Since completing its initial review of the eligibility matter involving UGA student-athlete Todd Gurley on October 9, the University has been supporting Todd and cooperating with his legal counsel as they review the matter.

Todd has confirmed his desire to seek reinstatement, and the University fully supports Todd's request. The University plans to file the necessary paperwork with the NCAA later today.

“I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support,” Gurley said. “I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can’t thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates.”

Gurley’s attorney, William King, said, “Todd has taken responsibility for his actions and is ready to rejoin his teammates. The University has been great throughout the past two weeks and has done everything it can to support Todd. I would especially like to thank President Morehead, Greg McGarity, and Coach Richt for standing by Todd.”

The University hopes for and expects a prompt ruling by the NCAA so that Todd, his coaches, and teammates can adequately prepare for our next game.

Interesting? That's the most damning case of academic fraud in football for at least the past 30 years. Jesus Christ.

TREON HARRIS IS STARTING

7drHiqrh.jpg

Oh, and Driskel will still have a role. It better be as the fucking waterboy.

Gotta be honest: While not having Driskel start is definitely a plus, I'm not sure Treon Harris is the hero we want him to be.

But hey, I guess a dice roll is better than a known outcome at this point, right?

Ohio State's alts are usually ridiculous-ized versions of either our current unis or unis we've worn in the past.

Pretty sure we've never worn black uniforms at any point in our history. Not that I'm saying it's impossible, of course.

Troy Williams taking all of the first-team snaps at QB this week. It's because Cyler is concussed, but I dunno if they'd be willing to put Cyler back in (if he's even cleared) if he missed a whole week of practice.

Hopefully Troy plays well and seizes the job.
