I've always thought it was cooler to the ä alternative in other Germanic languages. Same with the ø compared to ö.

Yeah, it's cool, but I think they're unnecessary (at least in German). Only the Dutch got it right, with no special characters ;)

Sweden's economy is also hurting, move to Norway, our country is richer <3
Thanks for the invitation, you people seem nice unlike these rude Danes. They'll miss out on having beautiful Mexican girls within their minorities in the next few centuries ;)

Extra o's and a's are useless. Best to trim things.

Scandinavian countries have relatively few foreigners compared to other Western countries yet they turn xenophobic fairly quickly either through the political process or by generating monsters like Brejvik.

Well, I like my keyboards simple with the least characters possible ;)

And regarding the other post, based on Wikipedia, roughly 10% of the population on Scandinavian countries are of immigrant origins (African and Middle-eastern mostly, so not exactly with similar cultures). I wouldn't call that xenophobic.

You make it sound like having a Breivik is something that happen regularly lol

You don't want to live in a country where Molde and Rosenborg are the best teams, that's almost as embarrassing as Allsvenskan.

It depends greatly on which country. Sweden has the most (close to 20%). Norway the least. Denmark in the middle. If you make a distinction between Caucasians and non-Caucasians, you essentially cut that number in half. Obviously, they're freaking out about the non-Caucasians (though they may complain about Eastern Europeans working illegally at a low wage, for example).

How those people got there is obviously through more liberal immigration policies (in the past), some of which could be argued was not fully thought through, but still a relatively low number of brown people made them freak out. That is expressed through in everyday life with discrimination and racist attitudes, through the political process with support for anti-immigrant parties and toughening up immigration/integration policies or just make right-wing loons snap. I mentionned Brejvik but there was also a less famous case with the Malmö sniper (targetting brown immigrants of course).

Everything's better than the Mexican league, trust me, where your current champion is a team that only has 1 year in the first division and 5 years of existence.

So because Breivik hated immigrants norwegians are xenophobick? Also Norway has quite liberal immigrant laws

Du fremstiller virkeligt Danmark, som noget af det mest hadefulde. Jeg kan da godt se nogle af de problemer du beskriver, men tror du ikke at du overdriver lidt?

Does everything have to be black and white? Of course there's a left-wing open to immigration, but there's also a right-wing quite hostile to it. And a large middle inbetween.

Breivik is just the most extreme expression of xenophobia. To say he just popped in out of nowhere is ridiculous.

You somehow seem to forget that the dude was bat-shit insane and had mental problems.

Er fra København men nu i det mørke Jylland. Men jeg skal dog helt klart ind og lede efter Prozel rundt om mariakirken en dag.

FrP is quite hostile, yet have never won an election. Polls also show that very few want their leader as prime minister (3% I believe)

Brevik was delusional, he's not even remotely representative for the really far right in Norway...

If he had been truly insane, they would not sentenced him to 21 years in jail in notoriously lenient Norway. :)

He was declared insane by a couple of psychiatrist, yet another pair found him sane. It was a clusterfuck during court, the defendant wanted Breivik to be declared sane while the prosecutor wanted him declared insane

Why?

And it's not to be negative, I'm just curious. :)

Everything I've heard about it seems to be nothing but good. It is considered the happiest place in the world, high standard of living, friendly people, etc.

It also helps I like many of their policies i.e high taxes with lots of government services that benefit people etc.

I'm sure their are down sides like any other country but it just seems like a really good place to live.

Another shooting 2 hours ago, this time in Hvidovre

They don't know if it's gang related and if it have any connection to the knife stabbing earlier today.

It's no lie that I were probably one of Denmark's biggest criticizers but the last couple of years I have slowly turned around and started to appreciate what we have here in Denmark. Yet I'm still bummed that I can't settle with my girlfriend and HAVE to move to Sweden or let her go ugh.

That is underselling it.

Norway, like many European countries, doesn't have parties winning a majority of seats/votes and ruling alone. They typically work in coalition governments.

FrP won 41 seats last time and were second overal. If Norwegians had turned their back on Labour, FrP would be part of the government (though probably not leading it) and that's a scary prospect. The country is just one or two scandals away from that happening.

I'm afraid it's rather hard for some foreigners to get used to our reserved nature and get us to open up... though a few beers often changes that :)

Det var en joke, hvis det stod lidt uklart :p

Hvor er du anti-social :(

Jeg kan fornemme sarkasmen er stærk i dig unge jedi.

Please tell me its not the same chick we discussed a couple pages over in the dating thread(s).

Which causes FrP to moderate when they win an election. FrP's radical ideas won't be norwegian law, because Høyre won't allow it...

Indeed, FrP will probably win this years election, yet since their politics are hated by pretty much everyone but their own voters, they won't be able to implement their radical ideas

People always refer to Scandinavia as a place where elements on Capitalism and Socialism work. Where social mobility is incredibly easy, average wages are high, and poverty (in comparison to other industrialized nations) hardly exists. Is this true?

You should come to live here in Mexico for a few months so you really start appreciating Denmark ;)

Few foreigners? Have you been to Copenhagen? There are plenty of foreigners. Hell, i was born and raised in Lebanon, and i don´t think the majority of people in Denmark are xenophobic. Actually they are very welcoming, nice and very tolerant of others, at least Danish people in Copenhagen, since i don´t live in other cities in the country. But i have to say that the rise of Dansk Folkeparti and them having significant numbers in Folketinget shows rise of racism and makes me very uncomfortable.

At least to some degree. The Scandinavian countries all have extensive wellfare states so if you're poor, disabled, elderly etc. there's help to get. Education is mostly free and the educational support (you essentially get paid to study) is generally high.

It's not without problems though. In Denmark the wellfare state has become too extensive and simply isn't sustainable going forward. Mainly because of low birth rates in recent years and an increasing amount of elderly people who need care and financial aid. Globalization is also putting preasure on the "Scandinavian model". We've been used to doing things our way and it is becoming increasingly difficult. Competitiveness is a big issue in Denmark at the moment. Wages and taxes must come down to stay competitive.

It's pretty laughable how terrible swedish TV series and movies are compared to Danish production. Cop series/drama/thrillers made here are almost always embarrassing to watch (with the same tired old actors). Maybe danes feel the opposite but I foubt it. :p

I only like Jan Torell and his movies are often funded by danish production companies. ;-)

I'm pretty sure that there only exists like 5 danish actors that are used, most of the time for the same type/role, in all movies and tv shows.

Also swedish cop series are boss :)
