Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

I just bought the game for pc. Since i want to avoid spoilers i really hesitate to read the thread throughly so i want to ask you guys something. If it's already discussed i'm sorry.

What are the essential mods for the game ? I checked out nexus top mods and i found MTUI and a community bug patches. There were some item mods but i don't want those. I don't want to get any mods that can fuck up the overall feel and the atmosphere (i saw a animated prostitute patch :p). Are there any recommendations for cool mods ?

I need some help. I'm playing a female character on my second playthrough.
Benny escaped with the Platinum chip and has hightailed it to Caesar's camp. I got approached by the Legion dude on the Strip and he gave me the Mark of Caesar and Cottonwood Cove was marked on my map. I traveled there alone and was attacked. Couldn't find another way to take the boat to the camp. It might have been the bag of Legion ears I was carrying with me for the guy in Camp Forlorn Hope. Reloaded, got rid of them and the same thing happened. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what is the other way to get upriver?
Thanks!
360 version btw.

Do you have any companions?

What were you wearing?
Ahh, I was wearing my 1st Recon beret. Maybe that had something to do with it. Combat Armor MK 2 from the neck down. I don't recall if I took the beret off on my first playthrough. I'll check it out.

Thanks man!

Edit: Below...thanks, I'll try that out. A large part of me loves slaughtering legion and I feel dirty walking into their camp untouched.

On the pier there is a bit on the raft that you can click to go to the fort. Kind hard to find on it, took me awhile, like a rope or something.

You should'nt have been attacked.
When that dude speaks to you in The Strip and gives you the Mark of Caesar your reputation is reset to neutral. At least it did with me, although I had the Chip with me. But I was wearing the Beret. As far as I know headgear does not count as Faction armour. After all, I gave Boone a Legion Recruit headgear and he wore it happily. I also had Legion ears too, though I may not have taken that quest on.

I've been able to semi get around some of the horrible glitches but this is just ridiculous; I put on some NCR armor just so I could complete some quests but now random troopers attack me instead of everybody. I think I'm going to put it down until a patch comes. Does anybody know when the patch is expected?

All factions are now hostile to me BTW. The only camp I've ever messed with was Legion since they seemed like a terrible group of people.

From now on, I think I'll wait for a few months before picking up any Obsidian releases. They've burned me every single time.

Yeah, I had a feeling. I fast traveled back to the Strip to see if
I could talk to the Legion spy again, thought maybe I missed something. I confronted him in front of the Lucky 38 as he was walking towards the gate. He completely ignored me, even when I was trying to speak to him. He just walked out of the gate. Maybe he has to leave the Strip physically for the neutrality to kick in?
I'll check it out.

Thanks for the response.

Having fun thinking of different inventive ways (all of which fail) :lol

Not sure if it's classified as a spoiler at all but better safe than sorry I guess.

The new music in NV is awesome, but I do have a little bone to pick. I like hearing FO1/2 tracks again for the nostalgia factor, but I think including so much music from FO3 was dumb considering how recently that game came out. Minor complaint yeah, but I walk into some Legion camp expecting to hear some eerie Caesar's Legion theme only to get that generic military theme that I got sick of after 80 hours playing FO3. I've taken to just turning on my radio when I enter those areas now. :lol

Which is everyone's favourite movement speed mod?

I'm seeing one that adds glasses and another that modifies speed of the whole gameworld. What's everyone using here?

Ok. Which armor has a higher DT than the Veteran Ranger armor?
It's medium armour with a rating of 20DT, same as Combat Armour 2. I don't know if it can be reversed pickpocketed like that. But you can find NCR Power Armour. That has a higher DT but is just as hard to find.

I made it to the Strip and have a level 14 character, but I think I will restart after the next patch is through cert with a different character build. This is the point allocation I am leaning towards. Note I will take the Small Frame trait.

4 Strength
5 Perception
6 Endurance
4 Charisma
9 Intelligence
6 Agility
7 Luck

None of the level 2 perks are very good, so I will take a single rank of Intense Training at level 2 to max out my INT for the maximum number of skill points possible through leveling up. I could make this build slightly better by substituting a point of END for INT and doing a level 1 run to the New Vegas Medical Clinic for the Intelligence implant, but I want to avoid metagaming to that extreme.

With 6 END I will get the Strength, Perception, Charisma, Agility, Luck, and Dura-Frame implants, making my final SPECIAL stats:

5 Strength
6 Perception
6 Endurance
5 Charisma
10 Intelligence
7 Agility
8 Luck

Making CHR a dump stat and putting more points into END is more popular, but a lot of players don't realize each point of CHR gives your companions a +5 to Damage and Damage Threshold.

This worked for me. I got to Caesars camp and slaughtered the lot of them. Me and Cass went Roman (lol) on them. Good times. Thanks for the tip.

Still a bit of a bug though, glad that it wasn't game breaking. Not sure what would have happened if I wanted to side with the Legion. It's like I got
Caesars Mark but my rep was never reset to neutral.

I have to say out of all the various bugs in this game, I think the one that annoys me the most (or at least the most regularly) is the fucking reloading bug where you can't do jack shit for a couple seconds after reloading a lot of the weapons that you have to hand feed ammo. The only workaround for this I've found is to interrupt reloading before it finishes feeding to the clip max, but I really hope this is fixed in the next patch.

I'm not sure what you're aiming for with your special stats, but it's not combat effectiveness. And that is a typo with the official guide. It's actually 5% increase to their base DAM and DT, which isn't nearly as good.

Might have to rethink my build with the clarification on how Companion Nerve works but this was my thinking.

Strength - Item burden is negligible with companions to carry your stuff, and I don't intend to do a lot of close-quarters combat. The main value of Strength is equipping heavier weapons, but with the Strength Implant, Power Armor, and Weapon Handling perk, a starting Strength of 4 is sufficient.

Perception - ED-E's Enhanced Sensors perk is sufficient for spotting enemies. I chose 5 so I could meet the requirements of the Better Criticals perk after getting the Perception Implant.

Endurance - One of the more useful stats because it enables you to receive more implants. I'd prefer to take Intense Training - Intelligence at level 2 to max out INT rather than do a level 1 New Vegas Medical Clinic run, although I am sacrificing one point of END and the semi-useful Lady Killer or Confirmed Bachelor perk to do so. And the HP regen implant isn't worth investing a point of END for either, so 6 END is sufficient for acquiring implants.

Charisma - Based on the explanation of how Combat Nerve works, I will take the Endurance Implant instead of the Charisma Implant and swap some points out of Charisma and into Luck.

Intelligence - The most useful stat IMO. Each point of INT increases your total skill points by 21 end game, 15 of which can be allocated freely to any skill, so maxing out INT quickly is very beneficial.

Agility - Pretty useful for increased AP. 7 AGI after the Agility Implant will give me a reasonably high AP pool to work with and meet the requirements of the Nerves of Steel perk.

Luck - I want to pump this stat up for higher critical hit rate.

Yeah, this bug has started really pissing me off, especially noticable when using my trusty cowboy repeater with long barrel and maple stock. Always at the most inopportune moments as well, like earlier today when 3 Legion assassins ran upto me and informed me that I've been "marked for death" by their leader, then opened up on me. I really don't like my gun misbehaving when stuff like that is kicking off.

I had a weird bug today, which also uncovered the answer to a week old mystery. Last week sometime, I bought a couple of cowboy repeaters from the guy in Novac to use as spares for mine. However, when I checked my inventory, they weren't there. I'd just done a load of trading with the guy, and couldn't be bothered to reload my last save and do it all again, so I thought "fuck it" and carried on with the quest I was on.

Fast forward to this afternoon, and on top of the reloading bug I get another one. When I switch from the cowboy repeater to another weapon, then switch back again, the cowboy repeater is empty. So I reload it, switch to another weapon then back again, and sure enough it's empty again. I don't want to dump it for another because it's modded, so I pop back to my house with the idea of moving it into a container and back to my inventory to see if it fixes the problem. When I do this, this is what I see:

111tkrt.png

I've been carrying the 2 cowboy repeaters I bought last week, but the inventory wasn't displaying them, just my modded one! I put the modded one back in my inventory and sure enough the other 2 disappear again. So, the "inventory that hides stuff" bug is another one to watch for.

After I post this, I'm going to empty everything I'm carrying to find out if there's any other shit I don't know about that I've been lugging about the wasteland for fuck knows how long.

Just incase anyone else gets the weapon not loaded after switching bug. Moving it to a container and back again fixes it.

Game is now *officially* on it's way from Goozex. I'll be seeing for myself how buggy it is this week :D

As I mentioned a few pages back, I'm less sensitive to bugs and glitches than lots of people. Many people are saying NV is "even buggier" than FO3 was, but I didn't find FO3 to be buggy at all. So IDK what to make of impressions like that, ha.

Anyway will be keeping an open mind and lots of backup saves.

Maybe it's just me, but I've put over 70 hours into the game and I haven't experienced a single crash or bug of any kind other than one time a rad scorpion clipped into the ground, but bugs of that nature were present in the engine in Fallout 3.. soo... yeah. :lol

Incredibly lucky. I don't even pay attention to the minor bugs to be honest, like the box I was trying to open suddenly falling through the ground, or monsters stuck in walls, or no one ever actually sitting on a chair (well maybe I pay a little attention) but I ended up putting around 50 hours into this and had somewhere between 15-20 freezes. That's just way too many.

Is it just me or is combat pretty scarce in this game? Maybe it's my playstyle and how I'm using my various skills, but I don't think I've gotten in a real fight for the past five hours of so. Even when I go out looking for one I only occasionally run into an enemy or two (which my teammates instantly kill from miles away). I have all these weapons and healing items, but I'm having a helluva time trying to use them.

I have completed the Come Fly with Me quest twice and each time each save I created during and after quest won't fucking load. Everytime I try the game crashes and exits to windows. So goddamn frustrating. I have to go back to before I confronted the nightkin in that quest. UGH!!!!!

That's one of the disappointing things about companions. I like to have them in case I just happen to run into like six Deathclaws (which I've done), but other than that I generally didn't get to do shit in combat situations.

I'd ditch them but then I'm loosing out on sidequests and about 400 pounds of potential loot. At the same time the lack of combat is really killing my enthusiasm for this game and having companions makes my high sneak pretty much useless. Man. I feel like I'm missing out no matter what decision I make.

Spoiler for the introduction to Tops Casino
Yesterday I confronted Benny and went to my room. There were weapons, skill books and healing items scattered all over the place so I felt like something big was coming up. After a while he got on the intercom and made me think a big fight was about to happen but I used my speech and he just left very anti-climatically. What was supposed to happen there? Did I miss out on something cool? Also, now that I have the room is there anyway to upgrade it like the Lucky 38?

Four or five guys bust in and try to kill you.

finished, & pretty happy it's over :) ...

had one final bit of weirdness occur during the
fort
final battle:
a little ways in, i'd gone vats on legate lanius, &, suddenly, as i was firing, he began ascending into the sky, then headed to my left, & flew out of the map?! when i went to the gate, it indicated an enemy was on the other side, but i never saw'm again, & had the ending kick in when i'd finished off his pals...

anyway, i definitely enjoyed the first half of my playthru more than the second, & basically stumbled across the finish line - i ordinarily never complain about framerate, tearing, or any such tech issues, particularly if i'm having fun, but f:nv is hands-down the nastiest, glitchiest bugfest i've played this gen, & it eventually ended up seriously impacting my ability to simply enjoy the game...

The amount of combat is really up to the player.

I was walking through the wastes this past hour and the only thing I ran into was a Jackal member and two fiends. Eventually I wandered into this robot factory and there were only four enemies in the whole building. I'm looking, this game just isn't making it easy.

Azrael said:

Any combat focused build takes a 1 in CHR. INT gives you 15 points per INT from 1-30, and most builds take 4-5 INT and choose Educated, which grants 50 INT if you take it at lv 4. It's a better trade off than skimping in STR and taking Weapon Handling. Also note that if you want to wear +STR armor, factions will react differently to you.. NCR and The Strip will attack on sight, for example.

Anyway, here's the combat build I use: SPECIAL: 7 STR, 5 PER, 7-8 END, 1 CHR, 4-5 INT, 6 AGI, 9 LCK
Perks: 01 Fast Shot and Built to Destroy, 02 Confirmed Bachelor, 04 Educated, 06 Bloody Mess, 08 Cowboy, 10 Finesse, 12 Hand Loader, 14 Rapid Reloads, 16 Better Criticals, 18 Purifier, 20 Ninja, 22 Super Slam, 24 Jury Rigging, 26 Nerves of Steel, 28 Living Anatomy, 30 Math Wrath. Also consider Commando, Sniper, Grim Reaper's Spirit.

You can resolve most quests successfully with combat if you want. Maybe you should try a different build -- sounds like you're high in speech which avoids most combat.

Having Boone actually made this a problem for me, I switched him out pretty quickly. Veronica is a good option.

10 hours in and the game has run perfectly the whole time...until today. I have crashed to the desktop twice in the past hour. Is this normal? Anything new to download that might help this?

You could actually possibly base the amount of strength you pump into your character at a maximum of 9 since the Remnant Power Armor gives you +1 to Strength and doesn't have the Agility and Faction Penalties of Brotherhood of Steel Power Armor or regular T-41b armor.

I think in my next playthrough I'm going to do purely Melee and really pump up my character in that regard (with Strength and related skills and perks).

finished going through each major faction's main quest line, and by far my least favorite was
caesar's legion. Boring, fort is a pain to get to for new missions and is ugly as fuck, and the faction as a whole is just so silly and stupid in the fallout universe. And then you have caesar himself, incredibly uninteresting (compared to house, yes-man, and various ncr npc's who were pretty interesting) and features the worst voice acting in the game.

Yeah that is true but you don't get remnant armor until late in the game. STR only adds .5 DAM per point in melee according to the wiki.

40 hours in now,on the 360,and I had one freeze....I got a few longer then normal loading screens, where I thought it would freeze but didn`t and the occasional small glitches that where present in Fallout 3 but nothing serious so far,and I didn`t clear the cache yet and uninstalled the game.

I had an NCR outfit and a Powder Ganger outfit in ED-Es storage, but they just vanished. Everything else in his inventory is still there, just those two outfits are gone.
