Watched a bit of the opening, I'm definatly impressed (knew of this game before, but it wasn't on my radar). Is it known what team is behind the game?
Here is a staff listing. The director was responsible for Crisis Core, Before Crisis, and 3rd Birthday. He also wrote Type-0, though, which is new for him (co-written by Hiroki Chiba, who was an event planner on many earlier FF games and Chrono Trigger). The art director has been responsible for games like FF7, FF8, FF10. The battle designer (later promoted to lead game designer) was responsible for the FF10-2 battle system. Essentially, the staff is a mishmash of people but the very core is the Crisis Core team.

God you're just like duckroll with the staff listing.

I assume you haven't been keeping up on the game. The cities won't just have shops and NPCs with sidequests; the people will have their own schedule like Radiata Stories. Square really took the "no towns" criticism to heart and I've experienced these towns that feel alive first-hand.

after release date we will see how alive it feels.

Stop being so unbelievably positive, its painful.

Its well known I find FFXIII to be absolute filth and I do not have high hopes for XIII-2. That being said, the fact SE have produced a game myself and other opponents of XIII are willing to give a chance is saying something.

I'm as big a XIII hater as anyone, but I'm going to give this game a chance. So far they seem to be addressing all the big complaints. As for the quality of the story, we won't know until the game comes out. That's where I have the least confidence, but I'm not about to give up on it yet.

I think I was estimating in the other thread, but if my playtime on FFXIII was any indication, I'm probably going to put at least 100 hours into this.
I have little doubt, and I will have no regrets.
most definitely 166 hours for FFXIII for me... damn I may not need another game til late summer. :) :p

Seriously? Just watch the last trailer they released. The plot looks like a joke. Time travel, really? FFXIII kind of had cool lore and an interesting mythos, but they are throwing it all away with this dimensional rift/earthquake shit. The game just looks like its been fan serviced out of its ass. Just throw in chocobo races, summons, gold saucer-like mini games, whatever makes the post FF7 fan happy. And the characters? Come on, guys...

It's almost like they listened to people complaining about the lack of things to do in FF13 and put it in 13-2.

So, Coruscant is in the game?

It looks more like earth did in The Fifth Element.

Or maybe Judge Dredd.

Hmm an all female cast...
I'm thinking exactly what you're thinking.

Hey, I'm all for the game looking and actually playing good and well.

Personally, I just hold zero optimism for the story when considering the last time Toriyama tried time travel, we got 3rd Birthday's vomit-inducing, character assassinating, franchise destroying excuse of a story.

I really hope the kid in the same uniform as Hope doesn't subject us to round #2 of emo.

Edit:
Hope in FFXIII is the only FF character I consider to be emo. :p

So Academia is the futuristic city-scape drenched in rain, right?

yeah. Xanadu is the casino city.

Okay it looks pretty, but I stopped playing FF13 after 5 hours cuz I hated it. Is this going to be as linear?

no, you travel to different locations in different times through gates, from what they showed you can choose where to go via Historia Crux system (menu based travel system) and the level design is more open with multiple ways to go and exploring around.

It's one thing to listen to your fans, but it's another thing to just literally throw in every idea into the pot and hope for the best. All this shit SHOULD have been in XIII to begin with. This game just feels like a product of former fan rejection.

I already said all this in another XIII-2 thread. It just feels like they are trying to save face and not tarnish the brand name any further (which is impossible at this point) by throwing in every feature/element/idea that's ever graced an RPG before it. Time travel, monster breeding, mini games, collectibles/item hunts, more, more, more!

All I am trying to say is that the game doesn't feel like it's something the developers wanted to make, it feels like something they HAD to make.

A lot of these mini-games feel like they could have easily been part of the cut content from Final Fantasy XIII. They look interesting as hell and a great way to cut the monotony of a linear corridor.

I hated 13 and think this looks bad. But the problems I have with this game are due to monster collection aspect. I think everything else looks really cool.

So now it's a bad thing to have as much & as versatile content in a game as possible.

Right on.

Wow, looks very promising. I'm definitely excited. And this is probably the best batch of screens yet. Though that could be because Snowbo is nowhere to be found.

Depends on your definition of that. There's no high-poly pre-recorded in-engine ones anymore, if that's what you mean.

But they improved alot the in-game cutscenes here, I've seen already particellars effects that weren't generated in real-time in the previous game :p
Plus now we can change costumes/armors and see them in cutscenes. Oh, and QTEs too.

Great screenshots anyway, I'm loving the new city. And I like alot Hope's uniform, maybe it's the first outfit shown in this game that I can't complain about. Finally.

So is FF13 worth it? I've heard bad things about the linearity but I loved FFX and that was fairly linear. Plus Im sure you can find it dirt cheap nowadays.

Please tell me you're a XIII hater.

Then do me a favor and look at this:

Now tell me you're going to hate XIII-2. Please do.

A bunch of beautiful screens, I still can not fathom how good this game will be.

Graphics do not a good game make.

Regardless, that is one amazing looking city.

Will wait a few months after release and I'll ask if there is a real and coherent ending this time around before I buy.

I thought that graphics was the one area that FFXIII excelled at (barring the 360 version of course) and that that was not a point of contention among the haters (including me, who mildly dislikes the game).

Still super excited for this despite my disdain for FFXIII. I hope it turns out well, the screens are looking great, although I'm not expecting much storywise.

Looks pretty, but unless they found themselves a new script writer, or at least someone who knows how to transition a script from east to west without it sounding awkward as hell, I still can't be interested, even if it seems there's something to do other than run down a corridor for most of the game this time.
Yeah, I'm in agreement with this. Might get it as a rental or redbox, not enough changes imo.
