FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

I think 5/6 of my paradigms had a SEN in it for that fight. Also, don't forget that Wound Potions are a thing. After a few minutes you'll probably be capped at half hp from wound damage.

I always carry wound potions, I can kill him once, but then he gets too agressive, buffs like crazy and attacks like crazy too, and if that wasn't enough, he's unpredictable, I tried to figure out a pattern, but no, he can do his limit brea twice in a row if he's tratened.

Ugh...

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I'm this close to sell this game tomorrow, I can't believe this bullshit, I killed him and he used a phoenix down, he does too much damage and NONE of the strategies seem to work.

I don't know about you, but he keeps using a sombo that insta KO me, first 6 slashes with the sword, then launches me to the air, the a graviton that throws me to the ground and then a limit break, fuck that shit, no amount of healing or Sen is saving me.

I'm gonna look for a way to cheat the bastard...

As mentioned, you will want a SEN as your monster exclusively for this fight. (I used the Silver Chocobo I built up for the casino races which did the job just fine). Just always have the SEN monster in, you need its defense. Caius will ALWAYS have two lifebars, that angel symbol under his healthbar is a free life. He won't get back up the second time once that is gone.

1. Make sure to have Serah start the fight by buffing herself as a Syn. Once you get all four primary buffs on both members, you will be good. Shouldn't need to reapply this until the second round, and only if the fight is protracted, those buffs stay up for awhile. Just keep them in mind in case they do run out.

2. Spend time as a Sab next just removing all of Caius' own buffs. He will keep recasting them throughout the fight. I spent most of my time in this role, but with a lucky poison and constant wounding, just sticking to this will whittle him down slowly. I spent most of the fight in this role.

3. When you have a good chance(he is sufficiently debuffed), switch Serah to a RAV to stagger, then immediately to a COM for damage. Always have her switch to MED for healing, but keep mostly on top of buffs in step 1 and 2. This third step is only for windows of opportunity or healing.

Just remember, Serah is the only one changing classes here. Your SEN monster is part of every paradigm! Knowing that, it is pretty much a 1v1 duel, but one that is much easier if you focus on buffs and debuffs. With a decent SEN and all four buffs up, his attacks won't do much damage to stress over. Had no problem with this strategy on Normal difficulty. Got 5-stars with several minutes under par(like damn near every battle this game throws at me).

Should I build my proto-Behemoth, or Chichu? Also seeing a bunch of different ways to grow/infuse them but are there any methods that are "superior?"

Chichu, Gold Chocobo and apparently Miniflan are some of the best COMs in the game.

There's a Chichu build guide on GameFAQs, but it comes down to using all Power elements to upgrade him for max strength, then putting resist damage and tons of other passives on him to make him both faster (siphon skills) and be able to take more damage.

Ah, here's the easy one to follow:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/619315-final-fantasy-xiii-2/61943888
Note, there's an error - you should take Lifesiphon as a skill when offered to you.

@brandonh83

i would use gold chocobu.the attack power at 1090 after upgrading it to the full levels.

@K' Dash

u can try goblin shaman.
after fully lvling him.he has health bar of 7000+ pt and his feral power increses both offense and defence .
key to hit him at all times.

A SEN WILL save you, unless your SEN is broken and doesn't use provoke (which is impossible). Caius will never attack Serah if you have a SEN out...

Agree, I beat this fight first try. Be sure to try to find a Bunkerbuster (sen) monster and level him to about 30. That will make it easy. Also be sure to switch between paradigms while waiting for the bar to fill if you do this it will instantly fill when you switch to your other role.

Really doesn't matter. Nothing in the game will test your choice properly. Hell, I used a Lv. 20 dragoon mostly as my COM the entire game. I did switch to a Proto-Behemoth right at the end and it felt like total overkill even with zero infusions.

It makes grinding faster at least!

He will repeatedly regenerate his life. You could repeatedly dispel that (and his other status effects). It's kind of annoying.

Another slow, but effective, method is to use bleed damage to lower his max HP. Once it is almost gone (maybe down to about a quarter of the bar), you should be able to beat him up with either COM/COM or quickly staggering him.

The target time is almost 15 minutes, so I think the developers may have considered that some may use the bleed strategy.

This. The Wound strategy worked to perfection for me, and afterward, I was quite surprised to see I 5-starred the fight anyway.

Start in SEN/SAB, cast Deshell on Caius, and start Wounding like an MFer. Dispel when necessary (should also inflict Wound damage). At some point, with all the Wound castings, his stagger bar will have crept up pretty highly. Switch to SEN/RAV, pound him into stagger and either 1) FINISH HIM!! (if he's low enough in max HP) or 2) switch to SEN/SAB and continue to cast Wound (now for a over 1K per) until he's at that quarter bar.

Well I'm mainly trying to take down Rasapatil or whatever the hell it is and I read that a good Chichu would help out considerably. I'm actually finding that thing harder than Yomi.

ya those 2 are hard to take down, even when u have maxed out everthing.
good to know the game offers challenge even at those lvl, cause at lvl 99 the final boss is not even 1/3 of yomi.

Probably already answered but how long is the post game compared to the main game?

If I recall FFXIII had a long post game full of killing turtles over and over again.. I hope it's not like that....

I would say it adds another 20-25 hours of play time beyond the regular ending, depending on how good you are at the game and how efficient you are at tackling the post-game.

It really depends on how much of the optional stuff you did before you beat the game. The game is fairly free flowing, so not everyone will have the same % of stuff done before and after the ending. In general, the main game should take most players 25-30 hours depending on how much shit you do, and probably another 15-25 hours after that to get all the Fragments and Paradox Endings.

The optional content in XIII-2 is pretty substantial and varied, including completely optional story episodes with voiced cutscenes, quests, and bosses which are unique to the optional areas.

Like others have said the post-game isn't that long and has a lot of variety to keep things fresh. The biggest thing to know is that there is no required mob grinding for any of the trophies. You do not have to kill turtles over and over to get any items or anything like that. There is once again a trophy for getting level 99 in all classes but I got enough XP for it from side quests (all of which reward XP) and never had to simply grind any out, it was a nice change of pace.

So it's been about a week since I Platinumed FF XIII-2. I enjoyed the crap out of it, but I've been thinking over the story and I've realized there's one aspect of it that still confuses me. Maybe someone can enlighten me? Spoilers abound...

Basically, what events are considered to belong to the "true"/original timeline? Like, were we given enough information to infer what would have happened if the timeline had never been twisted right after FF XIII and time had just continued on like always? What I mean is, what would *really* have been the cause of the Cocoon pillar's fall? Would Hope have created the Proto fal'Cie Adam, causing everyone in Academia to be turned into Cie'th in 400 AF, or would he have gone forward with the New Cocoon project? Would he have gotten it off the ground as he did in the ending, and if he did, why is Noel the last human alive in A Dying World -700 AF-? What happened in 500 AF to the New Cocoon to make humanity die out by 700 AF? It clearly wasn't anything Caius did, since what he wanted to do would have caused the gate to Valhalla to open, ending all of time (which did eventually happen in another way, but still).

The only element that I recall FF XIII-2's story confirming to be part of the "original" timeline is Lightning being alive and not in Valhalla. Other than that, I was never really clear which events were meant to happen in the "true" timeline and which were just aborted possibilities in the end. What makes this even more confusing is the fact that most of the "good" stuff that happens that leads to the "ideal" future in 500 AF (allowing the ending to happen), is all relegated to the "XX"/alternate timelines. For example, Academia 4XX's events lead to Academia 500 AF, not Academia 400 AF's. Likewise, it's "creating" the future in Yaschas Massif 01X AF that allows Noel and Serah to see Lightning in Valhalla and continue the story, as opposed to Yaschas Massif 010 AF.

Am I overthinking all of this and just wishing Toriyama had put as much thought into it as I am right now, or is there an actual answer here? Thanks for any insight you all can provide. :3

Well I'm mainly trying to take down Rasapatil or whatever the hell it is and I read that a good Chichu would help out considerably. I'm actually finding that thing harder than Yomi.

Yeah, Raspatil was much harder for me to take down than Yomi. To beat Raspatil, I found that using Serah and Noel's Auto-Haste weapons (both gotten from Immortal) and equipping accessories to max out Noel's Strength and Serah's Magic as much as possible REALLY helped. The Raspatil fight is all about being able to do things quickly and efficiently, especially when it starts summoning all those strong Cie'th (the Wladislaus... es especially). It's key to be able to take out those supporting Cie'th as quickly as possible as well as maximize the amount of damage you're able to do to Raspatil during its Stagger period. From my experience, fighting a battle of attrition with Raspatil and trying to chip it down is always a losing proposition, so pump your stats up as high as possible and just unload on it. I think my Strength (Noel) and Magic (Serah) were in the 1350s (with accessory boosts) when I beat Raspatil. I used a maxed out Silver Chocobo as my SEN, and Lightning as my other RAV.

I almost sold the game today because of that Caius fight, I decided I'm going to do the other paradox endings and try to find a better comando, Amodar is cool, but too slow.

I've started on the game about 4 days ago, played around 10 hours. Made it to Oerba, an alternative Yaschas Massif with no eclipse and The Void Beyond. I'm very positive about the game but also feel very overwhelmed...

So you can't 100% areas straight with the side missions and maps completion? You can do that in alternative times?

Do some of the side quests get solved in alternative times and then you take the items back to a previous time? (it's a theory I'm having since I can't solve those 2 Yashas Massif side quests for the time being).

And the game said this floating cube treasure box disappears...If I made the moogle scan it and I can't reach it at the time, does it disappear for good? Or you'll have to close the gate and start from scratch again?

When will you be able to throw the moogle around? There are lots of items I can't reach and I'm just dying to be able to do everything.

I'm also overwhelmed with the amount of monsters you capture, there are so many and I don't get to use most of them. I've been using the same three monsters for a while. It's been working out very well but it feels like I'm not making use of everything.

But really, I am having a blast. It's tons of fun and it feels like you're given too much freedom. I also find the story engaging, it might not be amazing and it treats the players as if they're a bit dumb but it is gribbing. It helps that I absolutely like all the characters I've encountered.

i just did the oerba 400AF clock puzzles ...

Wow ...7 levels of clock puzzling and the level 5 was just ... ( it pushed my concentration to the max ) but i did it ( still without a faq )

5 4number , 3 5numbers one . it was a little harder than the rest. even the puzzle at level 6 & 7 i got it very easily ...but that one was sorta evil ...

- That is correct. Some places (Ruins for example) have parts of the map not accessible in your current time. You won't get 100% til you go there.

- Side quests will require time travel to complete. Usually to get something and come back.

- That might be referring to the live rewards boxes? I don't think anything that mog can scan to appear can actually disappear....Moogle throw is not too far away.

- I ran one set of monsters for most of the game (Albino Lobo RAV, Pulsework Soldier SEN, and a COM). Build up some of the suggested early monsters, worry about capturing once the top tier monsters for a role become available.

WAI U NO FINDING CLOCK PUZZLES HARDZZZ!!!!!111

lol

But really have nothing but respect since you've done them without a guide...I gave up on the 2nd stage of the first clock puzzle I encountered haha.

I love the other time rifts though, I wanted more falling platform ones!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Are these the randomized, time limited clock puzzles? Those are the hard one.

The static ones are easy because you can keep retrying without having to figure out an entirely new strategy.

ugh getting Chichu to level 70 is a real pain, which is the last thing I have to do to the little fucker before I infuse the Mud Frog into it.

also left the slots going all night, but.... yeah :(

Thank you for your helpful reply!

About the treasures, I'm talking about the ones you find in the area. There are the regular circle ones (from FFXIII) and the square looking ones. The game said something like them appearing only once, I wasn't sure wether they meant that they disappear if you find them and don't pick them the first time.

The boxy ones only appear in specific time periods, while the circley ones appear in the same spot across time.

LV 6 of that one was random .. Lv 5 & 7 weren't.
It's the rift that lead to mog homeland..

I find the randomized clock puzzles easier somewhat ...

For the statics ones the trick is to figure out the number you can not get no matter witch spot you pick to start ... that number is 99% the starting point of the puzzle. the rest is easy afterwards because once you have that data , the rest is just maths..

What are the PAL names for impact break and that other one you need to reach 99999 dmg? If I'm at lvl 99 in all jobs, do I have it? :S That trophy is one of the few I have left.

If you're at 99 COM for Noel, you should definitely have all the skills. It comes down to your raw STR at this point.

I think the
last two Caius fights in the paradox endings
are all I need to complete the bestiary. I hope. However I'm hearing they're pretty tough and after having just beaten Raspatil I'm probably going to need more coffee.
