Final Nintendo Power cover revealed

Just got a marketing email from NP imploring me to buy some special issues / guides. I laughed to quell the rage.

EDIT: Argh.

Went to two stores. One store still had last month's issue, the other store, Barnes and Nobel had one left of the final issue. I got one of each. The second to last issue is pretty good also.

I find it a bit sad
Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie are not in NP's favorite games of all time, even though Conker, Jet Force, and Goldeneye are.
Just feels like a no brainer choice to me.

Love this issue though, it's such a love letter to everything that made me love Nintendo Power. I bought two, one I can read and the other to leave unopened.

Just got my issue. I'll look at it when I get home, but man...I'm a little choked up.

I hope you all get to read the book that Nintendo World had people signing, Whimsical Phil and other NP staff!

Sat on the couch last night and read through this, felt myself melting away into memories of Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Pokemon Red and Blue. I'm really tempted to do an old school gaming marathon over my winter break now.

Got mine today. Poster had seemed kinda worn in the middle crease, but its all good. The Nester comic
with his son
was nice.

You know ... The Nester comic actually was kinda emotional.. Damn ;(

And the fact that he was
a father
made me feel old :p

Some insane NP references in his room, too.

lol likewise.

I don't know if I should have got it. It just made me really sad. :(

The top 285 is kind of shockingly bad, heh. No Eternal Darkness. No Battletoads. No Donkey Kong Country 2. Unless I missed them. Earthbound is #156 behind WWF No Mercy, Soul Blazer, Orge Battle 64, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Demon's Crest, and Pokemon Pinball.

Hit and miss to say the least. Guess I should be happy to see Castlevania III and DK '94 eke their way into the top 100, and that Zelda II actually did pretty okay. But why oh why, for instance, are Paper Mario and Kirby's Adventure so low? Not to mention Mario Kart DS and Super Mario Kart, the two best in that series? (The less said about F-Zero, the better.) The Wario Land series deserved to see more than just one entry, too. It was great to see Etrian Odyssey get 2 games, but weird that the first beat the third. Axelay in the top 100 was unusual but not unwelcome, but I would have went with Life Force instead if they were looking for a Konami shmup. And Final Fantasy beating the far superior FFV? Pure rose-tinted glasses.

Putting Final Fantasy III (VI) in the top 5 was a-ok in my book. And I thought the OoT choice for 1 was a shoe-in (for a Nintendo list, anyway). I seem to remember it being number 1 on a previous Nintendo Power best ever ranking too... (Issue 200 or something?)

Still havent gotten mine :\
I love NP but one thing I wont miss is getting my magazine later than everyone else and after its on newsstands.

As a guy who got the first issue of NP when it first started...reading the final issue was horribly depressing ...not to mention how old it made me feel.

I hope the whole staff lands on their feet after this.

They're right about LttP and SMG being in the top 3 at least, so I'm happy. OoT as #1 seems almost token at this point, like there's no way it couldn't be there. So #2 is the real #1. :)

(Although for me personally SMG slightly edges out LttP.)

Don't worry, I haven't either. They're coming! I'd laugh if I got my Future order before my actual subscription copy, though!

I was starting to reorganize them in my head and was getting mad when games I liked were placed low, but then I just decided to see it as 285 awesome games that everyone should play and love. 285 games that probably sold much better thanks to Nintendo Power's coverage. I'm just glad most of the Castelvanias made it.

It was an awesome last issue for sure.

Mario 3 and Mario 64 got robbed. LttP and OoT don't convey as much fun and freedom as Mario 64. Not even Galaxy can match it.

there are many Nintendo games more fun than LttP

Anyhoo, I'll do my part and pick up 1 or 2 copies.

Mario 64 isn't that good of a Mario game and SMB3 isn't as good as World.

And Link to the Past is better than all three of those I just mentioned. Truth bombs!

Wow, that's a big snub. To me the worst snub is Eternal Darkness. How on earth can it not be one of the best 285 games of all time? Yet they list all 7 freaking Mario Kart games. Ugh.

No Perfect Dark either....

Wow, that's a big snub. To me the worst snub is Eternal Darkness. How on earth can it not be one of the best 285 games of all time? Yet they list all 7 freaking Mario Kart games. Ugh.

No Perfect Dark either....

Eternal Darkness is an easy top 20 game. That's a weird weird omission. I'll take it over RE4 any day. Better story, better atmosphere, better music, better characters, better voice acting.

Another big one: Lemmings.

Lemmings, Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country 2, and Earthbound definitely all belong at least in the top 50.

Man, I can't believe Nintendo World sold out on the 11th. All of their copies sold the day they put them out.

I hope everyone that wants an issue gets one!

One time many years ago I went through my stash and looked through every single one reading most of them. So good. But oh well, the magazine era is long gone.

Just got in the mail today. I'm really hesitant about opening up the plastic bag. You think this will be a collectors item someday?

Reading this issue is so great but it hurts at the same time. The top games list is whatever, almost a mandatory thing to include in the final issue, but most of the games don't even have write-ups at all; they are just listed. (As you would expect from such a huge list of games.)
SMW Top 5, should be #1 but I ain't mad

The real meat of this issue is the retrospective stuff on the magazine itself.....so many memories man

I can't find this at any stores nearby. This is seriously bumming me out.

Is there any place I can order it online? I don't even mind paying a little bit more for it, my childhood is demanding I own this.

Have been subscribing since issue 1 and having a copy of the third Fun Club Newsletter it was really cool seeing everything wrapped up in this issue. I will say I didn't get choked up until the Nester comic, which I think will resonate with a lot of folks here. I would seriously kickstart another 15 months of NP just to get to issue 300 (and the 25 year anni). Of well. I want to buy another copy of the final issue and frame it. Beautiful cover. Goes great with the Mario 2 and Mario 3 covers side-by-side.
