Picked up the issue at Wal-mart today, Barnes and Noble didn't have it yet.

Good issue, I'm glad to be able to keep it with my issue 1 with my NES collection.

I kept passing over this thread mainly because I have fond memories of NP growing up and didn't feel like being sad that it was ending. Even though I don't read it much these days there's a 9 year old Jaypah somewhere who was probably enjoying it. Then just now I saw it on the front page and thought I should click it because "what if it's a remake of the issue 1 cover, that'd be cool!". Thought it would put a smile on my face. What the fuck? It made me sad as hell :'(

Just checked my local Barnes & Noble, and they only had the November issue. I assumed it would be on news stands by now.... Might check Walmart.

Just checked my B&N and they didn't have it. I guess I'll stop by the grocery store on the way home.

Looking forward to seeing what the final issue is like but all of the stores I checked didn't have it. Gaaah!

Got mine earlier as well.

Though I had to get it at Target, as Barnes and Noble still had the previous NP issue still out, which is rather odd.

Picked mine up at Target last night. Just thumbed through it so far but I'm really glad to see the "Captain Nintendo" short story mentioned in the retrospective. I remember reading the story about a Nintendo game counselor fighting a Ganon that escaped the game into the real world and I couldn't for the life of me remember where I had read it from or if I had just made it up in my head!

Just got my copy from Barnes & Noble. Awesome stuff, great that they knew they were closing in time to make an official Final Issue - other magazines that have gone never got any advance warning, so their final issue was just any other issue. I haven't bought a gaming magazine in literally years, but I had to get this one. Back in the early NP days (and before that, the Nintendo Fun Club), these things were gold, SO much news about awesome games coming to Nintendo.

Too bad the poster couldn't have been double-sided like the early posters were

Now I'm seriously wondering now why mine hasn't come in the mail yet. Did my subscription expire one issue too early? I didn't get any notice of that in the November issue.

Checked my B&N yesteday didn't see any issues wonder if it sold out already. Will start checking Targets and other B&N tomorrow I need 2 of these puppies excited to read through. Will this be available online as well? You can buy back issue's from Future's site.

Gosh every time this thread pops up I get even more sad, I want to go back and watch my old VHS hype tapes for DKC, Diddy Kong Racing, and the N64.

Just echoing the sentiments that this was a perfect way to go.

I'll never forget the day the first NP showed up in my friend's house and how much we read it over the years.

I still miss the Nintendo comics they did. The LttP one was fucking epic.

I have a subscription, but haven't received mine as of yet. However, I spotted a copy at Wal-Mart and picked up copy (I don't mind having 2 copies as I'll keep one sealed). Spent a good hour and a half reading through every page and loved it. I've been a subscriber since the beginning (I think I lapsed somewhere in the late 90s). My first issue was the Nov/Dec 1989 issue with Track & Field 2 on the cover. I got the 1st 2 issues via backordering at the time and was hooked since the beginning. I remember growing up with the magazine and waiting for what seemed like forever to get a new issue in the mail. I used to get so excited when one finally arrived and would read it from cover to cover. I have so many good memories with this magazine - reading and re-reading the articles - dreaming about games I'd buy one day - obsessing over Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy - and of course the months leading up to Super Nintendo were tortuous.

This final issue is a perfect bookend to an amazing run. I can't believe the end has finally come, but I'm so happy that the folks running Nintendo Power at the end knew that the magazine was ceasing - so they had a chance to go out with a bang. Brilliant cover, awesome content, and a fantastic last 2 pages that really gave me pause. I'll truly miss my monthly magazine - truly an end of an era. One of these days I'm gonna have to dig out my old issues and take a trip down memory lane. Thanks so much to everyone who ever had anything to do with Nintendo Power!

I picked up a copy and B&N today.

The poster was kinda nice; showing (almost) every cover they had throughout the years.

I'm gonna read it tomorrow, since I only went over a few things.

You know ... The Nester comic actually was kinda emotional.. Damn ;(

And the fact that he was
a father
made me feel old :p

Some insane NP references in his room, too.

Was it like this?

That was all Bill Mudron. The dude is hardcore!
Still haven't gotten my issue but read the comic on Tiny Cartridge (somewhat against my will). Not ashamed to say I lost it at
Howard's framed bow-tie
... 25 years of pent-up emotion just came spilling out. I've said this before but you guys meant a lot to me through the years; I was always excited to read a new Nintendo Power whether I was 8 or in my 30s. The end of NP seems to signify that it's time I put away "childish" things, but I will fight that notion until I am no more.

Only one copy was left at Barnes & Noble. Yeah, this hit hard, and it's kind of a shame it's such a petite issue. The nearby Edge was thicker.

I got my first copy with Dragon Warrior as a free pack-in, the game that made me an RPG fan. It'll never be topped as a giveaway.

Are they not even going to continue anything with this? Not even any sort of digital thing even?

I opened up one of the two I bought for myself and I love it, just a great classy way to go out.

I was more of a Club Nintendo fan, but this makes me very sad anyway. (Yes, the magazine, I'm guessing they didn't had such a nice ending to their run).

This is from the first page, but I have to say it, just called it? I have a big hunch they were inspired by your post, I remember reading it and saying "well, if they don't do that cover anything else will be inferior".

Actually, we were inspired by the fact that it was really kinda-sorta the most obvious thing to do.

I recall conversations in the office from several months ago that were something along the lines of, "Boy, if they're ever foolish enough to shut down the magazine, we totally have to do a clay cover homage to the first issue."

Every gamer I knew was using gamefaqs in 1997. The first big thing I can remember that everyone was using it for was the FF7 chocobo breeding guide. Maybe Australia got the internet later than the US? :)

maybe you lived in a rich neighborhood or something because the internet was not common here until the early/mid 00s.

Just picked up my copy at Barnes and Noble. Feels bad man.

As someone who grew up wanting to write feature stories for video game magazines, it really hurts when news comes out that a magazine is going out of print. Sure, there is still writing for the web, but it just isn't the same as a physical magazine.

I will cherish this issue.

Thanks for everything Nintendo Power!

That is hilariously sad in hindsight.
