Hi France-GAF, so my girlfriend and I are planning a three-week trip in June/July, and I was just looking for any tips or recommendations based on our general travel plan. We are flying into Paris and spending a couple of days there, then travelling down to Clisson to go to Hellfest. After the festival is over we plan on spending the next couple of weeks slowly working our way back up to coast before we have to get back to Paris and fly home. As we'll have camping gear anyway we will mostly be looking for campsites etc to stay in during our journey back up. Any recommendations for places to go, routes to take, or just general tips and advice would be most welcome!

Hi France GAF,
Recently moved to the cote d'azur after living in Paris for a couple of years. It's beautiful and all, but I miss the damn metro. And not having a car here sucks.
Notice how post elections everybody was claiming that there was bound to be a clash between him and Merkel, post-electoral politics one might say. But still, it's nice how they were able to come together last year to avoid imminent implosion of the euro. Hell they look more in bed than merkozy sometimes! That said the whole euro strength valuation is perhaps going to cause some tension now.
The Fifth Republic was made by Charles de Gaulle for Charles de Gaulle. It's a presidential regime, and Hollande has all the more power since the Socialists have the majority in the two houses of Parliament, most Regional councils and most municipal councils. Basically, the Socialists can do everything on their own except changing articles of the Constitution.
Poorer EU countries asked him not to veto the budget - which he had reasons to do since Merkel would follow Cameron rather than Monti & Rajoy despite their respective countries being in crisis. That didn't happen because Hollande caved in everytime.
Basically we elected the 1rst French president without any nut.
Why it's a semi-presidential regime then !
If only prostitutes weren't underage girls...
Honestly, I don't care if footballers meet prostitutes but dudes it would be better if they were big girls. No?

I lived near Toulon for a few years as a Teen. Coming from Paris, that was the most boring years in my life... I can't live without a Transportation system that runs until midnight
I'm in Nice and there is public transport here, but uh yeah not the same thing, so still miss Paris in a number of ways...
So uh, question - is renting games or selling used games illegal here in France or what?
Fortunately Morano still has a twitter account.I miss members of the government blaming foreigners or Islam for our problems.
I'll go to Nantes, and work my way south (La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Bayonne, maybe Perpignan, Agde, Sète, Montpellier if you've got that much time / money and want to see the Mediterranean coast). So yeah, instead of up, I'm saying go down, and take a train back to Paris.

The fifth Republic is not a presidential regime since the government can be overturned by parliament and the parliament can be dissolved by the President.
It's not a parliamentary system either since the President is directly elected by direct universal suffrage.

That probably won't change your opinion though
Just avoid the agro industry...that's a good itinary.
Also: FOOD. Seriously.
Bordeaux Caneles (a dessert), oyster of the bassin d'arcachon, pork rillette, bayonne ham and saucisson, foie gras poele (panned foie gras), salade perigourdine, the 100s of cheeses (all the regions have their own cheese), the local liquors, pastries, basque dishes, beef tartare, snails etc too many to list...
Not to be chauvinistic, but French food is amazing and has so much variety. And the South West cuisine is one of the best. If you don't know what to order, just say that you'd like to try specialties of the region and ask for the recommendation of the chef or the waiter. They'll be happy to give you advices.
And a blog !Fortunately Morano still has a twitter account.
And a blog !
???this isn't listed in the OP ?
We're not going to pretend he didn't know who was working with him, are we ?
He just needed to be the undisputed leader, to please the very French (and harmful) fantasy of a dynamic king-like figure that has the nerves to solve our problems. The fact that people suddenly became concerned with halal food and the muslim veil isn't accidental either. I'll take the spineless guy over this anytime, really.
Still laughing about the huge market attack we should have had after the election btw.
The vote of no confidence is meaningless since the government is chosen from the majority of the parliament and they can do jackshit to the head of the exec which means that he can still reappoint the prime minister whenever he wants.
It's even debatable that the president could murder someone on national tv and get off unscathed since no judge has any juridction over the guy.
The reform of the constitution Sarkozy got was supposed to solve that lil' problem.
You can argue that the government is doing whatever it want regardless of the president but we both know that's never happening.
No. Were you ?Were you asleep or did you not see the economy going in the shitter?
But the President's criminal liability hasn't (directly) anything to do with that. As for your first remark, yeah it's called semi-presidential not semi-parliamentary : )
Still, it combines the best (worst?) of both worlds... And it's definitely leaning towards presidential although the leaning may vary depending on the majorities (cohabitation) and the President's personality (Sarkozysation).
No. Were you ?
It's been the same fucking thing for 30 years. For some reason the right only wakes up now, after being in charge for 10 years, not changing anything and turning us into a country afraid of its own shadow, in a globalized economy. Great job guys.
http://www.france24.com/en/20130214-france-sarkozy-ump-president-2017-juppe-election-hollandeSarkozy may run for presidency in 2017
Nicolas Sarkozy, still smarting from his defeat in the 2012 French presidential election, may run for office again in 2017, according to former Foreign Minister Alain Juppé.
Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy may run for office again in 2017, a senior member of his centre-right UMP party hinted on Wednesday.
When asked if Sarkozy would present himself as candidate in 2017, former foreign minister Alain Juppé told Frances Parliamentary Channel LCP, I get the feeling that he will even if its not for me to answer that question in his place.
Nicolas Sarkozy is here in France, he follows politics with a great deal of attention and from our regular phone calls I can tell he is extremely vigilant, Juppé added.
According to a January 6 IFOP poll, 67 per cent of UMP members favour Sarkozys return to politics after his defeat at the hands of Socialist opponent and current French President François Hollande in May 2012.
Sarkozy, however, has kept a relatively low public profile since losing the election, largely attending conferences abroad and giving private lectures.
France going to the dogs
Sarkozy has broken his silence just once, in August 2012, when he demanded international action to stop the Syrian regimes brutal crackdown on an uprising which has claimed the lives of an estimated 70,000 people.
However, one member of the former presidents entourage told AFP on Wednesday, Theres no change in Sarkozys position he has retired from political life.
But others believe that the centre-right ex-president, still smarting from the humiliation of his election defeat, feels it is his duty to return.
We wont know for sure until 2015, one unnamed former minister told Inrocks, a news and cultural weekly magazine, in reaction to Juppés comments.
He will mull it over until at least a year before the UMP primaries, and I would be astonished if he has closed the door on a possible return.
Sarkozy believes deeply that France is going to the dogs and that Hollande is not enacting the necessary reforms.
Last October, investigative newspaper the Canard Enchaîné quoted a close associate of Sarkozy as saying that the former leader felt a moral obligation to be a candidate in 2017.
Copé can go have a relation affective with himself if you know what I mean. He'll have to run over Copé for that to work

"non merci monsieur"

Hi, thanks for the input! Going South sounds like it will be fun, we have around two weeks after the festival so we should be able to fit a fair amount in.
In regards to travel, we will most likely be using trains to get everywhere, what is the best option in terms of buying travel passes? Is there any special thing we can get to cover our whole trip, or will it be best to just buy them when we turn up at each station?
Is the President is as weak as the media says?
Sarkozy believes deeply that France is going to the dogs and that Hollande is not enacting the necessary reforms.
I hear there are train tickets you can buy that enable you to get on any train at any time, but I'm not familiar with them myself.
No chance he gets reelected anyway. The public opinion of him is beyond repair at this point.
Oh btw any of you guys normalien? It's kind of my wet dream when it comes to education.
