What goes around comes around. Gaf shits on them at every chance. Yeah, they've had a few missteps lately but they also do somethings really well. Instead of attacking each other we should be helping each other.
Disingenuous comparison. GAF is a
PUBLIC FORUM comprised of consumers, and a few developers who want to join the discussion, who come together on their free time for discussion of their favorite hobby for no personal profit; ergo, no inherent claim to expertise outside of their own opinions. Polygon/Kotaku writers are 'professional' reviewers/commentators/journalists who write/make videos about the aforementioned hobby as a means to make their living, purportedly by offering a expertise/viewpoint that is beyond the reach non-professional hobbiest.
The so called professionals are that only in name. It's normal and fine for people to make mistakes from time to time; but it's another thing to insult average consumers on a message board when they simple point out the constant low quality coverage and uninformed, basically fanboy, opinions/analysis provided by Polygon/Kotaku/IGN etc. It's entirely unprofessional how these people act toward both legitimate and even forum level fanboy rage. A lot of the people being criticized post on GAF if they were really using their experience and knowledge when writing their pieces, it would be a simple act to come here and rationally defend their articles, tweets, and 'reviews'.
But how much do they actually do that? Never, because even as Cliff Bleszinski learned with his last moronic blog post, an appeal to authority through credentials doesn't mean you can post a bunch of nonsense and have it accepted by rational people; because more often than not the people on this forum, and every forum really, have a deeper understanding of the material than the author. The only time the 'professionals', your trying to defend, post on GAF is to mention that they interviewed someone the average person wouldn't be given the time of day because they have real jobs and don't get large donations to run their own game website. Or they have to mention how they got a free advanced copy of the next big budget game and want to advertise that the review on their site is going up in 'x' hours, so we the forum posters should make sure to go to the site and give them ad revenue.
