Just woke up and saw this on TV. That's terrible, stuff of nightmares, indeed.
''ABC's Brian Ross raised eyebrows on Friday when he suggested there may have been a link between the alleged shooter in the Colorado theater tragedy and the Tea Party.''

Quick question, what's this ''Tea Party''?

I think the discussion of "is bringing a 6 year old to a midnight showing" is perfectly reasonable, but it doesn't belong in this thread.
Metal detectors wouldn't have stopped this. He came in through an emergency exit in the back of the theatre.
wow.
not just the incident, which i'm processing on my own, but the way most of you seem to be using it as an excuse to jump down each other's throats, bickering over every little piece of ground surrounding the incident. fuck the internet...not a very good place for discussion or processing of events.
This isnt like a presser at all this is ridiculous. It's a police lady basically just called there because of reporters congregated.
So, with all of this discussion about the parenting capabilities of people who brought children to the theater, I'm just really curious on something about this discussion.
What exactly is the point in this line of discussion? Are people just bringing up dubious parenting choices just for the sake of identifying up dubious parenting choices, or are they insinuating that the parents have some fault and role in the injuries and deaths of children due to the acts of a gunman (which no person could have reasonably expected)?
I need to stop watching the news before we get to the inevitable NRA nut that says "If everyone was armed, he wouldn't have been able to kill so many."
Ultimately, this incident is just the product of living in a sick society with lax gun laws. Its not the first and it definitely wont be the last. The way your media covers such events only inspires more people to commit such crimes.
Listen, people keep talking about Colorado's Death Penalty.
Colorado has executed 1 person since 1977.
I just don't see that this guy gets a quick execution.
I'm clearly not the only person bewildered by this. Asking for bans is already a pretty lame thing to do, but over a simple discussion? Super lame. PEACE.
We like to think that in the United States we are safe from attacks like these, but the truth is, if someone wants to kill a bunch of people and they're intelligent enough to come up with a workable plan, they'll probably be able to succeed. The reason we don't have daily suicide bombings or other kinds of frequent incidents you're always hearing about in the Middle East is because our society is relatively stable and people are happier over here, or at least less of them find reasons to carry out such acts. But it's not like we have magic force fields everywhere preventing anyone from doing anything.

First of all it wouldn't have helped (he came in through the exit), second of all I really don't need the TSA at every damn public place in America.
It's events like this that should wake up America to start looking into gun laws...
Sad how these events will continue to happen because it's so easy to get hold of firearms...
Need to start putting metal detectors in places like this. Sounds like the guy was probably just disgruntled hope he gets the death penalty.

FIVE buildings around the apartment complex have also been completely evacuated. He's got some incredibly desctructive shit rigged up in his apartment.

Death is too good for him.
I don't mean to sound callous in a way (this is a horrible tragedy). Enough people have suffered already. Yet I was thinking that with the amount of weapons this piece of shit had - in a dark room with few exits, or an entire theater full of people - how were more people not murdered?
Maybe it's the size of the specific theater (I don't visit many), but man it seems this -could- have been so much worse.
Gamefaqs Mod was present at the theater at the timing of the shooting
It's a Current Events topic, so you can't see it unless you're a member with enough karma

This line of thinking drives me batshit insane and you heard so much of it after the VT shooting. I'm not necessarily anti gun, but people need to understand the difference between warding off a burglar or car jacker than being engaged in a firefight with a heavily armed lunatic who doesn't care if he dies. Your average conceal and carry doesn't train for this type of engagement and you'd have a shitload of collateral damage and casualties.
There is an air force base in Colorado (maybe another branch too I don't know). I have probably met someone who knows a victim or is one. :/Pentagon saying US service members among casualties.
Well you could always hope that they get caught by the FBI. When they buy the stuff legally they can't get caught.I was thinking the same thing, but the crazies that plan this out with bulletproof vests and tear gas are going to be able to get a hold of guns.

Not sure if it's okay to post, but here's the mods experience via the GameFaqs board:
The email I have just received is so god damn absurd that this must be shared, so it's story time. Every word of this is the most absolute truth.
I live in Aurora, Colorado. Being a GameFAQs moderator who is bound to see a ton of TDKR spoilers, I decided to see it as quickly as possible to avoid having it spoiled for me. Thus, I went to the midnight showing at the Century 16 that's two blocks from my apartment.

You may have heard about what happened here.
Long story short, I somehow got out without a scratch. I've got a skinned knee from hitting the floor, and eventually low crawling the hell out of there when the shooting stopped. The guy two seats to the right of me was shot in the head, and probably died instantly.
I gave my written and spoken statements to the police and got to go home at about 3AM after a hell of a lot of confusion. I've been watching the news ever since.
About an hour ago, I got an email received notification, and just looked at it in shock when I saw the title. It was an automated email message.
From: Fandango
Title: How did you like The Dark Knight Rises?
Fandango sent automated messages asking people how they liked the movie they were watching when some psychopath shot the place up. I wish I was making any of this up, but this is the deity of your choice's honest truth here. Boggles the f***ing mind.
I need a vacation.
