The new Recurve map is set on the Glacier forge canvas, and it's possible to actually escape the map and explore the Glacier map in custom games. It's absolutely massive. Amazing potential for forge.
If you want to see the Glacier map (it's seriously huge) and how to explore it, I made a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2VhTOP7dL4
I think the map has some great pieces, the size of the map means it's easier to see the large blocks of grey and yellow, but playing it is a blast.
Ugh, the ugly low res shadows make it even worse, I'd rather have them removed in forge, because that doesn't look good at all.
With the November update out, I certainly hope a flood of Forge information appears. Sure it won't really matter to the majority in HaloGAF but there is a dedicated community who are desperate for more information. I also hope the expanded Forge will draw new people into Forging too.
If 343 keep supporting Warzone etc, then I do hope they have the same thoughts in terms of supporting Forge.
Yeah what I'm hoping for the December Update:
1. Forge (we already know we're getting this)
2. File Sharing
3. Maybe a new Warzone map.
Yeah they really need to outline the FileShare plans.
Also, there needs to be some cosmetic unlocks for Forge Users.
An anvil emblem would be awesome.
or a monitor
Well I wonder how the enemy AI would be incorporated into a war zone forge. Like is it it like Mario maker where you can just plop down a few hunters here and there in timers etcWith the November update out, I certainly hope a flood of Forge information appears. isn't there librarian emblem kind of like the monitor?
No Warzone in Forge, or Forge in Warzone. They are completely different environments and very little can be transposed from one to the other.Well I wonder how the enemy AI would be incorporated into a war zone forge. They said they fixed it but i ran into a similar issue when copy/pasting an entire base. They promised to look into it again.Yo Nokyard, did they fix the precision rotation bug? You know the one that would mess with using walls as floors.

Not even stuff like vehicles or weapons? Wouldn't it be smart to have tundra variants of vehicles on the snow maps? Get things like CE pistol as starting weapon for custom matches, use some of the legendary weapons like SPNKr as on map pickups? I get you can't use things like Warzone base assets and what not, but weapons and vehicles should be allowed right?

I just want to say that I am 50% disappointing with the Forge maps that shipped out.
(I was pretty flustered when I typed this, as you can see, whatever)
In my opinion there are many sloppy mistakes, poor piece selection and balancing over-sights that boggle my mind.
I know nobody cares, but I am seeing things in these maps that are Halo 3 era mistakes.
I dont feel like doing a thesis on this, but if you will indulge a few short clips

Fake Standoff, Nok/343 did a great job with it tbh, the piece selection to create the bases are varied and therefore has some overlap, but nothing egregious and overall I really like it,
However, a small nitpick about this

Basin
overall stays away from drama really well, but rocks clip into the walls in Blue base, unforgivable.
(seriously, the interior of the base is like 10 pieces, dont let fucking rocks clip into them)
well, thats just like, my opinion man

I know some people will say it's no big deal, but this definitely bothers me as well. The grenade holes don't really matter because it's very rare that you'll lose a grenade to one of them (or exploit it to kill an unsuspecting player). Inconsistent geometry however is definitely a problem. The one by the shotgun on Headlong is the worst offender - i noticed it immediately and also had to shake my head as it has already caught my grenades a few times.
Patching holes is one thing that you may not necessarily find at first, but that kind of polish is to be expected of a Forge map, especially if it's going into matchmaking. Again, the others I can excuse, but that ramp on Headlong is unacceptable.
I tend to be pretty fussy about patching holes but when I start building a map, I am looking at the most barebones layout I can get and then start prettying things up.
The ramp thing bugs me no end, as does flat object with ridges in them. The ramp stuff just takes a quick tweak but its frustrating to find one and have to tweak a huge amount of geometry to make sure everything now matches. The Copy and paste stuff will make the building of symmetrical maps so much easier. Especially when building a specific team base.
I tend to build very cleanly unless i'm massing out a rough canvas. I don't know whether these guys were building roughly or not, but I don't think they would have let a rookie mistake pass. The headlong ramp can be fixed in a blink.
I think the more you use Forge, the more you see and try to catch those little annoyances. Hell, its why we have ForgeGAF games to tend out maps! I am looking forward to those returning.
I am not sure how much time or how pressured the Forge team were at 343 but the Spring Episode said that 343 went back to tidy up and tweak those maps, so did they miss some of this stuff?
Not Halo 5 but I've started uploading the rendered matchmaking test videos for Halo: Reach (including Jackal Creek) to Youtube. There's a bunch more coming, going to take a while due to the HD sizes.

There are technical reasons (which went WAY over my head) as to why some objects can't be transposed from Warzone to Forge. I believe the item would have to be stripped down to the wire frame then built up from scratch, requiring input from almost every department which works on such items (art, audio, scripting, balance, testing, etc.) They didn't say it was impossible but that it would take a great deal of effort form all corners of the studio. Not even stuff like vehicles or weapons? If you want such items included in Forge i suggest you ask politely, in great numbers, rather than accusing them of omitting such items for nefarious reasons.I think weapons and vehicles would be fine but they just won't allow it.
Dat req money.
I was annoyed when a similar glitch (which was subsequently fix'd) shuffled the back half of my map while i was there. The new forge tools allowed me to repair it in 2 or 3 minutes, where it would have taken 20 to 30 minutes in previous titles. Those first two remind me of the bullshit automatic repositioning that would happen in earlier Forges. As somebody who obsesses over that kind of thing, hopefully that isn't the case in this new version!

Most of the base is interior is noting but placeholder and is no where near complete. The switched doors and shutters are not functional yet.
The only areas i completed were the sneaky tunnels, the front and back doorways, and the rear tunnel. Even that area is incomplete since they ended up using the 'electric wave' glass panels in place of the clear ones i originally used. Those back hallways were supposed to use a blue electric crackle gobo in blue base, and a transformer fire/flame gobo under the glass floor in the red base.
Picture this as an electric effect.
Yes, you can place these in Forge. That's similar to how the back blue hallway will look once complete.
The curving splines in the floor were supposed to continue throughout the base and branch off into the rooms and doorways creating a more organic flow through the bases, almost as it the UNSC builders were attempting to emulate a cross between Covenant and Forerunner construction techniques.
I am talking with forgers who specialize in spawning and other technical areas to help bring the map up to spec. This map is going to be spectacular once it's finished.
Yes, that is the current plan.So Nok, did you get the impression you guys could polish up the maps come December and obviously with a look over from 343, have those pushed into matchmaking to replace the current stuff?
Is there a reason it was 6v6?

Since you cross posted nilla's question i will cross post my answer to the Deadlock part:
I have no information on that but i would expect they are preparing videos to be released prior to launch. The controls alone are very complex for even seasoned forgers so i expect they plan to release some form of tutorial.Nok there is still some unannounced forge features, right? I'd hope we get a video soon, or a blog talking about those.
Sorry about that Madness. Fix'd.I didn't accuse them of anything though. Just asked you whethet new vehicles and things like legendary weapons could be used. Think you might be referring to the second poster?
Sometimes it was because a map was maybe being considered for a 6v6 mode that never showed up. Sometimes it was because that's all I could get together for test sessions that night, but it had a full 8v8 for BTB tests at some other night.
What'd I would be looking for at that stage would be bad spawns, traps, geometry faults/escape holes, performance. Load up the film and switch around to people to see what they ran into, run the film in 2-split to eyeball any frame drops, etc
Also sometimes this videos will show me playing weirdly, often that was about the 10th time or so playing the map, so I was doing stuff like pretending to be someone that doesn't use sprint to see if the mancannons would work, etc.
yea i'm not sure that would have worked for 6v6 at all. 4v4s with DMRs was pushing it, and you guys played BTB on it? that's insane.
Also sometimes it was just because that's who was in the party and I wanted to stress a map without having to kick/manage the party because that usually started a domino effect of people dropping the party.
Like that video on Affinity where I made everyone have flame trails. I was just trying to get a 360 to combust at that point.

Is that true? 343 had years to build maps and did awful and they gave the Forgers 4 days?
Can't be true?
