Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction—the Horcruxes.
On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Professor Dumbledore, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever.
But there are Dark Forces in their midst that threaten to tear them apart.

Meanwhile, the wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark Lord.
The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort’s Death Eaters seize control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting anyone who might oppose them.
But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter.
The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort…alive.

Harry’s only hope is to find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds him.
But as he searches for clues, he uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale—the legend of the Deathly Hallows.
And if the legend turns out to be true, it could give Voldemort the ultimate power he seeks.

Little does Harry know that his future has already been decided by his past when, on that fateful day, he became “the Boy Who Lived.”

No longer just a boy, Harry Potter is drawing ever closer to the task for which he has been preparing since the day he first stepped into Hogwarts:
the ultimate battle with Voldemort.

Hey, let's take the most boring and most poorly paced book in the series and stretch it out into two films. Genius.

My expectations are low. Yates has done a great job on the previous two films, but I hated Deathly Hallows and I don't know if even he can salvage it.

Nice OP.

Looking forward to this. Do wish it was still in 3D though, was looking forward to the opening action sequence in 3D.

That is a sexy OP.

I might go to a midnight showing, but with work at 5am the next day I would have to then stay up. We'll see what I end up doing.

I am glad it is not 3D. I would have been excited for it being 3D if it were not going to be a rush post process job to convert it. If they shot in native 3D, like Tron Legacy will be, then I would be VERY excited to see it in 3D. Or if they did the Captain America route and at least rendered the effects in 3D.

Making it in 3D wouldn't have been worth the cost.

It's Harry Fucking Potter. They hardly need an extra selling point to get people to go see it.

Is it true this won't be in 3D? I just read on some random place that it got scrapped for Pt. 1 because the conversion couldn't be done on time.

Anyhow, already have my tickets reserved (and with reserved seating!) for the 20th. EXCITEMENT.

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing I can only remember like 2% of the book. Good as in I won't be annoyed as what's missed out, bad that I'll probably be confused at some stages.

But.... HYYYPE.

However, Bellatrix's sister, Narcissa Malfoy, and the Malfoy family find themselves in a precarious position after Lucius and Draco Malfoy failed to complete their missions for the Dark Lord. Go inside Malfoy Manor and learn how things have changed for this family of Death Eaters.

Gotta go buy my tickets, Can't wait! Part 2 is going to be better though, the Battle of Hogwarts is going to be so badass in IMAX.

I hate most of the movies because they don't come close to the books, and they really should have waited to start the movie series after the books were finished but new Harry Potter is new Harry Potter!

I got Advance Screening tickets to see the movie next Monday, the 15th. So I get to see it for free, and I get to see it early :p

I haven't read the book yet, and I don't know if I will even have time to finish it. Can anyone tell me how far I have to read so that the movie doesn't spoil any of the novel? Which is to say -- at what page/chapter does the film conclude? I want to at least read as much as is covered in the movie.

Day One probably. I haven't seen the last two movies but I loved the final book (except for
that damn epilogue
).

So glad they split it in two movies. I just can't imagine they could do justice to the source material with only one movie. And it seems that the second part is basically only
Gringott's and the final battle. Awesome
.
Too bad I'll have to wait to see my favourite part of the book, but hopefully the wait will be worth it (
The Prince's Tale, so awesome
)

Includes everything through chapter 23 and some of the stuff from chapter 24, so I'd read that chapter as well.

Just went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, so I'm ready, haha. Man, Frozen Butterbeer is delicious.

I am also excited to see the Green Lantern trailer, which debuts with this movie!

My buddy was going to go to the premier as a magician, and I in a bunny costume.

He chickened out. :(

Said he wanted to avoid the nerds on release night. (???)

Wow, those show tons of great new footage. Looks like they're doing a great job explaining everything on-screen.

but why is Bill Nighy's acting so horrible? :lol his performance is literally the only bad thing I've seen so far. totally didn't see that coming.

I went into the last one expecting a big fight and was severely disappointed.
Yes, there will be multiple action scenes. However, they're not going to be anything as grand as like the big fight at the end of the 5th movie. The major fight stuff happens in Part 2... that's going to be insane. But Part 1 will have a few fights here and there.

Not really any crazy fighting until Part 2, but there are still several big action sequences. There's a brief wand skirmish at the end of this one though and it's staged and shot much better than the one at the end of Order of the Phoenix. Not as long, or as big, but it's handled better IMO.

New clip of the stuff from the The Dark Lord Ascending chapter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EXn5Yoa_nU

EDIT: Just watched it and it's great! I like how calm Voldemort seems, since it seems like everything is under control to him. And I love the way Snape says all his lines. It really seems like Voldemort trusts Snape too. Great stuff all around.

EDIT: Damn... ANOTHER new clip! Check it out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxC8Y-diEjg

EDIT: BLOODY HELL! ANOTHER NEW CLIP!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNUJcLK_ALQ

EDIT: So I called my sister up at home and asked her to check Comcast On Demand. There are five featurettes up there, while there are four online. The fifth one that is not online yet is one on new characters, like Xenophilius Lovegood and Bill Weasley. So if you have Comcast, go check that out now! It's under On Demand --> Top Picks --> Harry Potter, and then navigate through a few more menus and select featurette #3 I think. Hopefully someone puts it up online soon so I can see it.

EDIT: And just when I thought it wouldn't end. Here's some behind the scenes looks from Collider: http://www.collider.com/2010/11/08/harry-potter-deathly-hallows-behind-the-scenes-footage-b-roll/. They also have the six released clips all in one place if anyone wants to view them: http://www.collider.com/2010/11/08/harry-potter-deathly-hallows-movie-clips/. Enjoy!

EDIT: So that new characters featurette that I mentioned earlier wasn't supposed to be out until November 15th apparently. Oh well. It's now on YouTube! Check it out:

Some Part 2 spoilers on one of the fights (in case anyone doubted it would be included):
Mark Williams who plays Arthur Weasley has confirmed that Mrs. Weasley and Bellatrix do indeed fight in the film. In a Collider interview, he said "And then Julian and Helena’s fight is really spectacular, I have to say." I believe Julian is Julie Walters, as I can't find any other cast member with that name. I just hope they keep that awesome line in the movie!

I wonder how they'll do
Dobby's death and Harry dealing with it. That moment in the book genuinely moved me.

It's been a while since I've read the book, what took place in those chapters?

Basically it's them
escaping Malfoy Manor, burying Dobby, and then the talks with Ollivander and Griphook I believe
.

If you're curious, Part 1 ends with
them burying Dobby at Shell Cottage and then we see Voldemort take the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's grave
. So that's why it sort of ends with chapter 24, cause they shifted some things slightly around in the chapter so they could have a better ending and leave a good opening for Part 2 with
Harry deciding between Hallows and Horcruxes
.

Same. Hope they don't fuck it up
but I bet they will

I'm interested to see how they keep this pg-13. I've read the books and bad things happen this time around. Very bad things.
Poor twin...

What's to fuck up?

Dobby dies, the death/burial is emotional confirmed by test screeners. It's not like they have to film some 15 minute mourning sequence, film doesn't work the same way a book does. Besides part of it is in the previews, when Harry says "help me!" and it looks very well done.

There's only one part in the book that I can think of, that if filmed just as the book describes, would push the PG-13 Rating.
