Crossing Eden
Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Reasonable.300K I believe.
Reasonable.300K I believe.
Working my way through this atm, without spoilers I'm up to the bit to get a sword.
The game is an audio visual masterpiece in story telling but the gameplay let's it down a bit, it's pretty much the same puzzles over and over along with very basic combat which is a shame.
I think the combat is quite fun once you nail down the parrying stuff, feels very weighty. The puzzles are quite repetitive after a while though.
You've only lost like 30 minutes of progress. It's worth restarting imo.I was enjoying the game but honestly cannot be bothered starting again.

Watching the featurette, after completing the game, helped me to understand the story better. I wish I could've known some of those things as I was playing. I felt the story could have been made clearer, but perhaps it was Ninja Theory's intention to keep players in the dark (so to speak).
Very nice Marvel!Best camera work in gaming I feel. Better than most tv and film currently.
For those who have completed the game or don't care too much about seeing a lot of it I made this music video just now.

The music is by Wardruna if you like Viking shit.
Probably an hour give or take as I was enjoying the scenery but yea I could bolt back to the area in about 30.
Yea, I was enjoying it too much to not restart, I'm just venting cos it just happened. I'll start fresh on the weekend.
96k on Steam is great, but the game is also available on GOG. So the number is probably higher. (At least I got it on GOG)
Of course, especially as there's also the PS4 version to consider. I referenced SteamSpy's data in particular simply because it's currently the only insight we have into the commercial reception of the game. I didn't intend to imply it's sold ~100k all told but rather at least ~100k.
Would buying the gog version give the most money to devs?
Worth watching the making off stuff on youtube too if you haven't already, very insightful.
The fact that she suffers from psychosis is obvious from the very beginning of the game - even without that credit...I feel like the game should have ended sooner. The slow movement, the puzzles, the combat, even the story - all of it feels repetitive by the end. And aside from a few moments of anxiety the story had almost no effect on me.
About that ending...are developers incapable of creating an ending that doesn't involve throwing hordes of enemies at the player? After the war trial and beast I honestly felt like the combat was over - I even jokingly thought that the game might end with each boss surrounded by waves of enemies. I had to pause the game to figure out how to progress past the last fight. It put such a bad taste in my mouth, I couldn't even pay attention to the last cutscene.
I also think that broadcasting the games mental health advisor in the opening credits was a big mistake. Stories like this benefit from ambiguity and interpretation and it would have been far more rewarding to discover it's true meaning on my own. Overall it's a nice looking game that's fun for a few hours but it wears thin by the end.

This game was advertised from the very beginning as having a character with mental health. There's nothing ambiguous about it the way it's presented as a game that trying to treat it as a revelation the fact that Senua has psychosis instead of showing it front and center would be incredibly distasteful. Also, the fact that the final fights never end is sorta the point. It's Senua's last attempt at not accepting the death of her partner. The audio cues even tell her to give up.
Ty stephen!Very nice Marvel!
Apologies if this was posted earlier, but I found it to be a very interesting piece.
Gamespot, "Why Hellblade is More Important to Gaming than You Think."

Discusses the decline of AA/mid-tier games and Ninja Theory's attempt to bring it back, with a twist. Good insights into the thinking involved, the budget, the creative freedom of a small studio, and the role of self-publishing and digital distribution.
Makes me want to buy a second copy.
p.s. If you look at the slide at 2:26, it gives a sales target of 200-300K.
Didn't they say they only needed 200K for this to break even?
300K I believe.
Hmm anyone getting weird issues running this on pc? Only game to make monitor go into power saving mode. Turned down the settings due to thinking it might be GPU overheating but was still happening.
With all this talk about playing with headphones, is it okay to play with normal speakers? I don't wanna invest in a headphone for one game.
Where?Haha! Managed to find a bit audio they must've forgot to clip out, it must be the director saying, "yep, that's good" after a take.
Just use any old headphones it's worth it purely for the binaural audio. I played through the whole game with some like 25 dollar sony ear headphones and it was magic. I played from the speakers exactly once and it just didn't have the same effect. Doesn't matter if you have a ridiculously expensive audio system setup a set of 15 dollar earbuds will produce a much more impactful experience in my opinion.
Where?

Uploaded the clip to youtube, it's in a late area of the game with the torch and darkness stuff.
Nope, after you defeat Surt , Senua becomes blinded by firelight and most of the game is in complete darkness. So I defeated Surt, decided to quit the game after that, then load it again and now my screen is in total darkness except for Senua & some torches? WTF?!
Is this a bug?!

(That's a bug)
I fixed it by walking out of the area, don't ask me which direction tho, it was dark so i just kept running until it turned normal again
Finished the game! Incredible but the ending confused the hell out of me ha.
Can someone explain it to me with spoiler tags?
