Lightning Returns trailer

That's obviously not representative of the final game. Maybe the game is in development hell and will end up sucking, maybe it won't. But there's really no way to tell from a trailer that's had zero effort put into it. That text overlay straight out of a power point presentation, and the beyond lazy direction is proof enough. Even if that's all they got to show asset-wise, they still could have made it ten times more appealing with better presentation, if they cared to.

If they didn't care, why should I?

The first trailer should be good, that's the whole point of the reveal trailer.

Then why are most reveal trailers shit? Or show barely anything except for CG snippets?

The trailer that really matters is the release trailer, if that's underwhelming then there's a problem.

Reveal trailers do whatever they can to present their game in a positive light. This definitely isn't par for the course.

One day in the game is about an hour long. There's 13 days until the end.

Yeah, you're just forgetting the point of the game is to delay that time. Thus game mechanics that will fastforward the time or slow it down (so much that in relation to the lenght of a day they didn't say just "1 hr" but "1 or 2 hrs"). This game will be long like XIII-2/MEseries, that means around 18/25 hrs for normal game, 30+ for the extras.

The only game that Shadow was probably a decent playable character in was Sonic Adventure 2, and it should have ended there. It's too bad that Sega realized he was incredibly popular and they brought him back in Sonic Heroes despite dying in SA2 and having a decent ending in tha--...

The Sonic and FF comparisons just keep on rolling, don't they...

I wonder who FF's version of Trunks/Silver is going to be.

It's Hope. You have bishonen Hope and Babby Hope already, plus time travel, an out of place weapon, and he's shipped with nobody gives a damn. Hope is defs Trunks/Silver.

Disc space is also being taken into consideration after what happened with FFXIII. They opted to do more cutscenes in real time for XIII-2 to save on file size.

Yet here in LR or they returned back to pre-rendered cutscenes or there's more AA added to ingame scenes. Because that scene in which you see Light and the Heretics is extremely "polished" compared to XIII-2. Maybe is the new improved engine that looks overall better than what we're used too.

Pretty sure they've stated this title is intended to be shorter than the other two and that it's the type of game you'll want to replay multiple times to get everything.

Nothing about this game looks polished.

Some reveal trailers are like 10 seconds of footage + a logo

Ya'll are overreacting tbh.

10 seconds of decent looking gameplay would have been much better imo.

The reactions are to be expected at this point considering this is the second sequel to the most divisive game in the series. Which is why the first impression was especially important.

Not true at all. The engine is quite better than before when it comes to AA, main character and general lighting. Then let's just remember this video is probably taken from an old build of a game still in development and even bad-enconded. Do you remember that trailer of while ago of A REALM REBORN? The one rumored to be PS3's video version and turned out to be an outdated trailer based on an outdated version of the game and bad-encoded, thus the bad framerate?

Dejavù.

Probably some producer wanted LR to be at JUMP FESTA and forced this video.

Actually the ending of ff13-2 does make sense ..especially if you pay attention ..it was even heavily forshadowed ..it's just that you don't expect them to trully stay in this path.

Actually FF13-2 wasn't such a bad game package ..sure there was some issues here and there but no game is perfect..

i say this as someone who isn't happy by this ff13-3 trailer at all despite wanting to know the rest of the story
I actually did enjoy FFXIII-2, and I thought I understood the ending well enough. But it really is the kind of event where the world's old logic actively vanishes and everything enters a strange, limbo-like state, a perfect excuse to just do whatever the fuck and ignore what was going on before or what would normally seem plausible.

Sometimes less is more. A good 10 seconds of footage + a logo that is not overhyped with announcement of an announcement of a teaser of a teaser sometimes bring more positive reaction than 2 minutes trailer of an unfinished game that looks bad. It's a choice, Square Enix chose the latter, and these are the consequences.

Yeah, badly encoded! I bet the computer it was encoded on probably had a virus, so that slowed it down. Add back 10-15 fps. And I know they were probably defragging the hard drive at that time too. That's worth another 3-5 fps. I know Toriyama was likely downloading cat porn in the background using Bittorrent and that can be processor intensive, so add back 10 fps too. Finally, it was encoded last minute on a Wednesday, which is when all computers run slower than normal, so that's worth another 5 fps.

Thank god we have you to clarify, because I was really getting nervous this game wouldn't run at 60 fps.

Let's wait until a non-leaked trailer pops up and we'll see...

Honestly I really doubt that the LOGO ANIMATION at the end would really be running at 10fps, so I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the leaked video.

Btw, anyone knows when we can expect the full reveal at Jump Festa?

The trailer was leaked? Wasn't it posted at Gametrailers?

That was it. The trailer leaked.

FFXIII-2's sales bombed comparatively to a normal FF game, but this game will create new records. With the tarnished XIII brand, the spin-off-sounding title and the (lack of) production values, I wonder if it'll ever top 1M. Maybe get 750k, because it IS the sequel of a main FF game afterall. No wonder the production values seem so low. They're expecting to get a profit out of potentially mediocre sales.

To put things into perspective: Dirge of Cerberus outsold FFXIII-2 in the US. LR doesn't have a chance.

Posted and almost instantly removed...

If that really is the final released trailer, then yes, what the hell is S-E thinking with that framerate...

I see. Well, I think it's more likely that it was just a Gametrailers mix-up, rather than an unfinished trailer leaked online by... Gametrailers.

I guess we'll see tomorrow?

S-E did screw up earlier this year with a badly edited FFXIV trailer, which was fixed a few hours later.

Is it allowed to post download links to the trailer? I've only seen people posting links to Youtube videos that get taken down.

Yeah! I really hope LR has abysmal sales, and then we interview Toriyama. That would be fun to read/watch.

Probably something like this:

Why are they continuing this then? Were the JPN/EURO sales that promising for them? Or do they still have left over assets from FFXIII that they want to blow through.

Also, despite all its faults, I kinda dug DOC. So I'm sorta happy it did somewhat decently.

The platforming/exploration elements sounds promising. I would definitely be up for this if it weren't very heavy on the story as I didn't play any of the 2 previous games.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Will there be any new games from SE?

Frankly, this game looks very low budget even for a FF game. I wonder where they're pushing their resources to.
