Magic Duels |OT| Magic The Hearthstonening [Update Support Ending]

Still too small a window to activate creature abilities or non-counter instants out of combat during the other players turn. You have a very small window before the attack phase. Makes the Gideon/Liliana vs. Corrupted Townspeople story quest pretty annoying.
You can stop the timer basically whenever you want. On PC, spacebar is the shortcut to stop the timer.

I've just realised it'll take me craploads of grinding to get the rest of the sets. I only have Origins fully unlocked and OGW at around 50%. :`(

I haven't even unlocked Origins fully, but then a bug prevented me from playing for months. I feel like they should make the quests refresh slightly quicker or something.

They made a bunch of quests require playing against real people instead of the AI. That's annoying. Matchmaking on iPad seems to be working and getting games right now, but if the player base doesn't stick around getting coins will become more difficult.

Reading that 2hg still doesn't work properly. This and the fact that i am so behind on boosters that it needs lot of grinding to keep up made me uninstall it for one more time.

As far as i can tell, only two of the quests require playing online; so odds are, when you refresh, you'll get an offline one.

With the Eldritch Moon Update to Magic Duels, we’re on schedule and delivering on our quality commitment. Our primary goal is to deliver consistent, timely, and quality updates to Magic Duels that align with our paper card sets. With that in mind, we’ve decided, after much consideration, to indefinitely delay a PlayStation 4 version of Magic Duels. This means there’s no active development on a PlayStation 4 version and we have no plans to deliver a PlayStation 4 version in the future.

This decision wasn’t made lightly, as we understand that many of you were eagerly anticipating a PS4 version this year. Although it was a challenging decision, we are confident that it will best position us to consistently deliver great play experiences to fans across our currently supported platforms. That said, we will continue to deliver updates on iOS, PC, and Xbox One, with Kaladesh as our next release in the fall.
PS4 Magic Duels release officially delayed indefinitely

I think it's doing well, and it plays an important role in Wizards' onboarding for Magic players, so I don't think it's going anywhere for now.

Really hoping they introduce some version of draft/sealed in the near future. I don't need it to be the full card list, but it'd be nice to change up the usual grind a bit.

I'll hop back in with this new set, I think. Try to update my decks and start searching to see if there are new deck archetypes that are more fun than when I last logged in (ramp was pretty, uh, rampant, hah).

Is that a replacement for Magic Online?
It's replacing both products and becoming the primary Magic digital game.

They don't like the current split and feel their middle audience isn't served by either, so this one is meant to be all encompassing of their goals going forward.

This B/W Angel control deck is the funnest thing I've ran in a while. Seriously look into it!

The ramp decks and 5-color goodstuff decks have been nerfed via some card changes and also just by having a larger card pool. There's plenty of competitive decks of just about every type right now. My only beef, for the time being, is that Wx tends to be better at aggro than Rx decks, which feels odd. There also aren't too many combo decks running around, but given the audience they're aiming at and the way triggers work, that's likely intentional.

Do you have a decklist you could link to? Sounds up my alley (control).

I've been mainly running a white based aggro deck since day 1, updated with each release, as it was just the fastest way to earn coins. Hah.

I've been running GW Eldrazi for months. I should really switch it up to something different. I feel like Collective Effort specifically has hurt the deck a ton. But if I switched I wouldn't get to play Eldrazi Displacer which is like my second favorite Magic card.

I saw someone playing a really cool graveyard recursion deck with Prized Amalgams and Haunted Deads and whatnot. Should put that together.

Or just go back to Humans since Always Watching is pretty great.

This guy has the best one IMO. Mines a little different, but its essence is the same: Race to find Bruna and Gisela, while slowing the opponent down in the mean time.

Can anyone else connect to Versus Battles on iOS? I've been getting connection errors for three days in a row. "An error occurred while searching for a session. Please try again."

The list of Kaladesh cards coming to Duels has been spoiled on the Duels Facebook page.

[EDIT] Looks like no Fumigate. I wonder if they'll ever add any of the wraths to the pool going forward. I realize they're worried about having too many, but it's annoying to be stuck with the same ones.

I'm a bit of bummed about that we're not getting Fumigate, Paradoxical Outcome, Aetherflux Reservoir, and Animation/Decoction/Fabrication Module.

The new expansion should be up in about 7 hours.

Patch notes for Kaladesh said:
Card Swaps
  • No card swaps for this release.

Fixed Issues
  • Eldrazi Displacer is able to target itself with its own activated ability.
  • When Eldrazi Displacer exiles a token creature, the next token creature to enter play with the same name will enter the battlefield tapped.
  • Returning Diregraf Colossus from the graveyard to play does not add any +1/+1 counters on it for each Zombie in the user's graveyard.
  • Prized Amalgam does not return to the battlefield if the other creature that entered from the graveyard leaves play before Prized Amalgam's ability finishes resolving.
  • Otherworldly Outburst's added triggered ability lasts past the end of turn.
  • Play this card cannot be selected when Planeswalkers are exiled by Abbot of Keral Keep.
  • Extricator of Sin's triggered ability does not display a "may" prompt when "Always Use Optional Abilities" option is turned off.
  • Choosing not to copy anything with Altered Ego with X > 0 doesn't cause Altered Ego to go to the graveyard.
  • The Devil creature token created by Devil's Playground does not trigger Willbreaker's ability when the Devil token dies and targets an opponent's creature to deal one damage.
  • Silverfur Partisan creates a token when a Wolf creature is being countered.
  • Aligned Hedron Network triggered ability resolves while not on the battlefield.
  • Enchanting a card with Imprisoned in the Moon reveals hidden flavor text and results in overlapping text issues.
  • Avacyn, the Purifier transforms back into Archangel Avacyn if a creature is sacrificed before her first transformation.
  • Face-down transformed cards that are enchanted with Imprisoned in the Moon are face-down in the hand when returned to the user's hand.
  • Spells with support and an effect which targets a creature are able to target the creature if it becomes hexproof while the spell is resolving.
  • Menace is not effective when the player concedes and AI takes over.
  • User can create Decks with special characters if the name starts with "{" .
  • Kozilek's Return's 5 damage animation triggers even when not activated.
  • The buff sound effect and visual effect when a card's P/T changes can be heard from the opponent's hand with cards that have ★/★ power and toughness.
  • Host is not able to mulligan if client quits during the mulligan phase.
  • After receiving the reward for participating in a Community Quest, user cannot contribute towards the next one until they reboot.
  • +1/+1 counters FX is too loud.
  • Parenthesized rubi appears on the information of cards during duel in Japanese.
  • Visions of Brutality contains text incorrectly stating that the enchanted creature cannot attack when it actually can.

PC
  • The host is separated from its invited partner when searching for random opponents in Two-Headed Giant and finds a lobby with three players already in it.
  • When a creature attacks a planeswalker and is blocked, if the blocking creature is withdrawn the arrow then points to the player (but damage is still correctly assigned to the planeswalker).

Xbox
  • Purchasing gold from the Gamehub while title is on will not update the gold amount until user reboots.

Known Issues
  • Titan's Presence is highlighted before the user has enough mana to cast it.
  • Rabid Bite instantly resolves without chances for pause/response.
  • Having the opponent discard their last card using Compelling Deterrence causes their last card to visibly remain in their hand for the duration of the duel.
  • Skill Quests cannot be entered once the user has put any number of cards in the bottom carousel.
  • Users are unable to select continue during Madness and Transform Skill Quests.
  • Aethertorch Renegade cannot target planeswalkers with its second activated ability.
  • When the AI targets the player and a planeswalker with Twin Bolt, the attack's animation is displayed on both, but only one takes the damage.
  • iPhone - Game crashes if the player zooms in on the opponent's lands.
  • STEAM - The user is able to connect to others, but not friends in Two-Headed Giant.
  • XboxOne - Tapping meld creatures warps the P/T display.
  • When Saheeli Rai's -2 ability is used on a token creature, the copy does not gain the copy badge.
  • There is an erroneous loyalty box on the planeswalker Arlinn Kord when becoming a creature planeswalker.
  • Cards exiled by Bomat Courier have their set/block visible when zoomed in.
  • There are out of order paragraphs in rules text of Aether Meltdown in all languages other than English.
  • Zooming in on a card in hand while it is played won't force to zoom out.
  • The number value for the opponent's energy counters displays upside down.
  • With Combat Animations enabled, planeswalkers may enter the graveyard with an erroneous loyalty value.
  • AI pilots vehicles unnecessarily and in disadvantageous ways.
  • Achievements related to Rank and Versus Wins unlock at the wrong increments.
  • Foil card state not being loaded during transition from My decks to Card Collection.
  • Card sleeve reverts to the default one after syncing a deck from the server.
  • "Energize" quest is only giving one energy counter worth of progress even if player plays a card that gives two or more energy counters.
  • Drive Time counts abilities with "tap another creature" as part of the quest.
  • User is unable to return in duel if they start a Skill Quest while discarding a card and leave it quickly.
  • PC - The user can access the coin store when adding card sleeves to a deck while offline.
  • PC - Harnessed Lightning's X Energy Cost does not count for the community quest "Powered by Aether."
  • IOS – Soft lock occurs when attempting to resume deck building after attempting to purchase coins and putting the device to sleep.
  • iPAD - Title soft locks when single pressing Ghoulsteed 4(B) to cycle through available mana.
  • iOS - During the mulligan, if the user concedes and disconnects from Game Center, they will return to a hard locked game.
  • XboxOne - Title softlocks when cancelling a Two-Headed Giant search.
  • XboxOne - CRASH - The title can crash if a player is invited to a Two-Headed Giant lobby twice and then the host backs out of the lobby.
  • XboxOne - The title returns the user to the title screen after disconnecting the controller, constraining, and resuming title in Two-Headed Giant Local Multiplayer.

Listing the "fixed issues" like that is so weird. It's like "NO none of that is supposed to work like that! ... Oh, you mean it used to do that."

Excited for more cards, though the deckbuilding interface is just increasingly unwieldy.

Dang. I was 5 packs short of finishing Eldritch Moon before the next set came out!

I have close to 8000 gold saved up and I can pick up ⅔ of Kaladash tomorrow.

The deck builder is indeed awful. I usually filter for color, card type, and CMC before I browse any cards.

Full art lands make the game feel so much more familiar.

The 'sleeves' look a little odd, since they just replace the normal magic back, but they're still a nice little bit of customization.

I think I played against a wizard employee yesterday. Literally every card he played besides lands were foil mythic rares. He even had 'wizard' in his name. So my guess is it was either someone from Wizards of the Coast or somebody put a lot of money into this game.

The Kaladesh campaign was a cakewalk and lasted 20 minutes. I wish they added something more substantial when we only get an update every three months or so.

I got enough new cards to build a Pummeler deck. It's quite good against the Hard AI, but probably way too sensitive to disruption/removal to last against a human opponent. It can win on turn 5 with a good draw, and if the game drags on you can deal a silly amount of damage. I use Padeem, Consul of Innovation to protect it from removal together with tutors, energy cards, draw, and pump spells to make it more consistent.

Just downloaded this out of curiosity. Really love Hearthstone but grew up playing Magic.

Something is tripping me out though... Am I not able to chose who I attack? Either HS is getting to me or my friends and I played magic all wrong as kids... At least I think we may have. Could have sworn you could attack specific targets. Maybe it's just been ~20 years and I can remember.

Has it always been this way?
Played mostly right up until Ice Age growing up

You've never been able to choose your targets as far as I know.

Yu-Gi-Oh had creatures attack creatures, so if you also played that, that could have gotten you confused about Magic's rules. In Magic, creatures can only attack players (or planeswalkers now), and then the defending player decides which creatures block.

I was searching around but couldn't find an answer and figured maybe someone here would know. Does everyone get the same starter set of cards after finishing the Gideon tutorial?

My cards stink.
