It was a misplay. Kibler would have had to tap out to play Inferno Titan due to his Snapcaster'd Mana Leak, and thus wouldn't be able to use his Combust in hand. Jon would have had enough damage with the Drogskol pump to win that turn. (The only thing Jon couldn't play around was Inferno Titan baiting leak into a Slagstorm, but in that case, Kibler would have just played Slagstorm first anyway, to play around Mana Leak.If he blocked Inferno Titan would've essentially wiped his board. He only knew of one Galvanic Blast. Criticizing him for not anticipating 3x Galvanic Blast is kind of ridiculous.
Friend just showed me this combo:
Apparently I'm missing something. According to the way that article talks about it, it's like once you get both out, the cursed player can never cast any spells from their hand. But wouldn't they be able to cast a single spell per turn?
I would've done it with the double Whipflare.
The first spell you cast gets exiled by the Knowledge Pool. This uses up your one casted spell for the turn. Since you have to actually "cast" the exiled spell you can't. If it said something like "put an exiled card into play" or something like that you wouldn't be locked down.

It's not disrespectful. He punted. That's the lesson here- even the best of us screw up. The term implies no disrepect.Saying it was a misplay is one thing but saying Finkel punted the match is pretty disrespectful. There was no way he could've known about triple Galvanic Blast and got stuck in a shitty situation.
Whenever a spell or ability resolves, both players have the ability to play more spells or abilities before the next spell down resolves. Abilities resolve in a "Last In First Out" order, so you can wait to see if they've paid the first one before casting your second. So did I see Finkel double mana leak a spell, forcing Kibler to pay 6 to resolve? If so, I didn't know you can stack the mana leak like that. Also, dat double whip flare and triple galvantic blast! No way Finkel could've anticipated that.
I love that card's design. It's the Magic equivalent of Communism.Eugh, Knowledge Pool. I ran that card in a six player EDH game once. Three hours later we all forfeited and I promised never to play it again.

He didn't know about it, but it was one of the only ways possible for him to lose that match, and he failed to recognize the threat.
Tim Aten breaks down the thought process here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/tim-aten/finkel-should-have-blocked/10150512437751362
Punted's used informally in the pro/semi-pro community to mean "threw away a game he should have won." It's not the exact meaning it has in football.I think 'punted' isn't the right term; that implies a conscious decision to give us control. My guess is that he was just mentally tired. He had to work his ass off to stay in the match against a deck that was a really bad matchup for him. He had kept the match in control, finally got himself in the dominant position, and he let off the gas because he thought he could coast across the finish line. It was a needless mistake; even though he clearly thought he didn't need the two life (he didn't even really consider blocking), he didn't need the token either.
Of course, if I was piloting his deck, I wouldn't have won a single game, so I shouldn't say too much.
WW I know I'm not your target audience but would you mind if I hit you up for some commons and uncommons I need for a few deck ideas?
My target audience is basically everybody. I have a pack/box buying addiction and limited storage space. Whatchu need bro?
I'll get you some lists. What sets do you have surplus of?
Well....I started back with Zendikar. But I went through a mass buy old sets phase. So...a ton of cards from most sets.

It's time for WanderingWind's quarterly card cull!
If you're a beginner at Magic, or would just like to get started, send me a PM. I have a metric ton of cards to give away for free.(you pay the 3-4 bucks for shipping though)
It's not a scam or anything, it's basically a two prong thing. When I restarted a ton of people ITT were very generous. Also, my wife won't let me buy any more cards until I'm rid of what I got!
I will work with you on colors, deck building lists, etc. PM me!
...seriously? I was thinking like Innistrad, maybe Scars. But if you have like...Lorwyn, or Time Spiral or heaven forbid Ravnica...
I'm still surprised trading hasn't really taken off ITT.
That's actually a crazy proposition. How might that even work? I just declare I'm looking for something and we go from there?
In that vein, have play groups been organized on gaf before?
Hey guys. Recently rejoined the Magic party after ~12 years of not playing. I must say, there's so many new abilities and strategies that it's all kinda overwhelming. :lol I mean, when I quit playing actively, banding and mana burn were still things, haha. Still though, it's great being back. I've really missed Magic.
It's also kinda surreal to hear people refer to cards that I've never even seen or heard of as "old cards". :lol I have to wonder how people who say that sort of stuff would react to Ice Age and Mirage and Homelands and all that other stuff that was current back when I played. Heh.
LOL. If you check back way, way earlier in the thread I said the same thing. Enjoy the bigass box of cards coming your way!

Edit: Also, just to confirm, but protection from [color] includes your [color] enchantments/targeting instants/abilities as well?

Try a 10 person multiplayer match. When we hit 14 cards on the initial stack 6 of us agreed to forfeit. That card is ridiculous for multiplayer.
Edit: Wandering Wind, do you happen to have any cards in German?
Nah, sorry mate.
Working on this deck for standard. First time doing any constructed, but I have so many cards left over from limited that I might as well!

It's hews pretty close to a pure Burning Vengeance deck, but I have 4 Gravecrawlers for early aggro, and the 2 Grimgrins to let me sac and recast a Gravecrawler over and over again for recurring shocks, and Grimgrin acts as a finisher in a pinch. Mana base is a little bit screwy, but that's something I'll have to tweak as a get some playtesting in.
My only concern is that my deck gets kind of bad if I can't get Burning Vengeance in play, so Oblivion Ring can really ruin my day. Is it possible for me to splash ray of revelation or something?
Turn aside not works to counter oblivion.
The oblivion ring's hability is a CIP (comes into play) hability and when it is the battlefield you can't counter it.
Beast Withing is a valid target for turn aside.
