No Man's Sky - Atlas Rises |OT| Nada, Polo and you no longer fly solo

I agree with those who are saying survival mode is lame. It's pretty much a grind fest. Most of the crafting cost is doubled (or more), your life support seems to drain twice as fast, and launching costs all of your thruster fuel. 80% of my time on the first planet was spent wandering around trying to find zinc, thamium and plutonium just to scrape by. It wasn't fun. The only challenge was traversing the landscape to get to the small amount I was able to find.

I get off the planet and get attacked by pirates who were much stronger than me. They kill me and I lose everything in my inventory. Fuck that. Going back to normal mode.

Wish there was a middle ground between normal and survival because normal is almost too easy.

Survival mode.

Survival mode.
This, pretty much. It was put in very much as a 'this is ridiculously tough' for those that wanted it. Before its addition there were a number of people that enjoyed the game but felt that that hellish level of challenge would match the universe they'd made.

Personally I like it a lot, though I'd have no issue with there being a middle difficulty. I see it more as a NG+ type affair, where you use Normal to learn the swing of things and then apply that knowledge to Survival.

The consensus at launch was also that Normal was too hard and some basic things were tweaked to make survival easier/need less recharging/resources... so it's not an easy thing to balance

I will say there are occasionally still some tough planets and pirate engagements on normal, it's just not a generally stressful experience

Anyone ever try this over PC remote play? Sometimes I loose my gaming TV (in my office) to my 4 year old so I am wondering how it may work. I have never tried.

What "beacon to search for components" are you referring to?

The thing that is called a beacon in-game that you can construct is just a permanent waypoint. Like you build it somewhere you want to be able to get back to. Maybe you're talking about something else though...

That is actually hilarious... definitely submit it. Can we see the ship?

the signal booster, what ever its called. When you plop it down you can look for drop pods, components, monolith or bse locations (iirc)

fly about and look for the round building! On my base world I found 2 of them within 500m of each other.

so guys can i make a new new base and use the option in the main building it said something like transfer items from previous base or something like that

the patch pissed me off really bad my home planet was soo awesome and now its just not, and it seems like im not the only one, but i have so many elements there and dont even have a freighter yet.. im just sooo bumbed..😞

like every patch my character feels weaker...

I had the game pre release and thus without the release day patch, and that was far worse. As a result I found the patched game a step up on the ladder, and probably didn't feel the grind as much as those that didn't know what it was like before. Either way I just wanted to put some context behind why Survival was even a thing and that some people really do like that type of difficulty in a game like this.

I think I'm screwed...my main story mission requires me to do Scientist missions to unlock a certain blueprint, but ever since I moved my base it keeps telling me to go back to the Scientist to complete a side mission. It's saying he is back in the old galaxy but when I go there of course my old base no longer exists and the waypoint is just floating in space. My new base doesn't let me interact with the Scientist, it just says he is busy and I should leave him. I tried removing the desk and putting it back but no luck. My best option now is to rebuild a whole new base in a different galaxy. Hope that works.

I have something similar, all by Specialist Terminals par one won't let me speak to the engineer's station at them, just say they are busy.
If I look at the objectives for the ones I can not interact with, game wants me to return to my old base.
Which when I go there, does not exist anymore its just glowing dust in space.
Tried deleting and re-adding the Terminals, rebooting the game and creating a new base on another planet. But nope, same issue.

Make sure you report the issue to Hello Games, more people advise them hopefully they will look into it.

Ohhh and components just shows you the nearest deposit, I see what you're saying. No way to pick what specific type.

I'm very glad Survival and Permadeath were added for those who are looking for something more like that out of the game, it's just not my preference and I like the current tuning of Normal.

Well, I started again. I had a base, vehicle, cool ship, resources coming out of my arse and a shit load of cash. It's kind of cool starting fresh but I'm currently very upset.

Works fine. I've been playing it like that for a while, never experienced slowdown or anything like that. It's not like you need a lot of precision anyway.

Do you guys know how to unlock the secondary quests in the space station? Every time I go to talk to the alien in charge of them he tells me he has nothing to offer (I've tried in two different space stations so far)

Maybe it's after a certain point in the main story?

should be available right away. make sure you are talking to the alien in charge of the mission board next to the teleporter in the space station

It took a while for me too until I got missions. Might be how far you are in the main story, or maybe standing with the races or something.

Pretty sure its standing based, since other missions are locked away pending certain standing ranks.

You'll have to chat with aliens and learn words to increase to rank 1. I'm not positive, but it makes sense.

Its crazy now how the mining is organic within the gameplay as the story line and the side missions takes the center stage. THIS is no man's sky . THIS is why good games takes time before they are ready for release and should NOT be pushed out.

P.s Those fauna kills side missions are straight up cruel for no reason lol

Nanite acquisition is reason enough for me...

Pew pew pew

Also, overseer and farming base missions done (again).

I tried the game again due to steam sale and while I appreciate the change the game still feel super boring to me. Will be getting a refund. But I am glad lot of people are enjoying this game and HG are still devoted to improving this game.

So with everyone saying they've lost all their progress with alien words - I think it may just be a bug. All my work ranks were set to 0 words learned for each species - until I learned a new word. I was traveling on a Gek planet, found a word stone, and I noticed that it bumped my Gek rank back up to 104 words learned for the Gek language.

Would anyone else be able to confirm this? I have no idea if I'm still missing the entire language or not.

(Also I'm finally able to play again and I couldn't be more excited after the drought that was yesterday ^^)

Not sure if already asked, but what does 'contact' imply in the galaxy map? I have a bunch of systems who mention that.

What would be your top three for what you would either add or change in the game? Just curious, thanks for letting people know it's not for you in a polite manner.

1) I would like to see randomly generated towns and cities in planet but that maybe too difficult. Where the npc roam and interact with each other.

2) I would like the game to be more than resource grinding to move on to the next planet.

3) the entire Galaxy just feel lifeless. With no civilization in planet. No advanced city or fleet.

It gets tiring though to be in the middle of a nice side quest and be asked to build an item that will take hours.

Creative mode.

I understand this....but wouldn't the narrative be reversed since we're meant to be the first to discover new worlds?

Narrative already fucked as just about every planet and every single system is already well established and populated.

I don't think so because during your travels you already see lot of alien Races that set up outposts and other space stations. They were there before you. So i am sure civilizations by those races can grow and thrive in nearby planets.

It took me six hours to find a terrain manipulator, and even then, it's not the blueprint. I found a multi-tool with one already installed. Still no terrain manipulator blueprint. Nothing but C class ships. :/

I bought the blueprint on a Vykeen space station from its blueprint vendor.

1 and 3. Yeah, proc gen cities with inhabitants are way too difficult, you're never going to get that.

Disagree with 2 though. I feel the resource grind has been diminished significantly. Mining is super fast now, and you can buy vast amounts of resources from merchants. Maybe it feels different early on, but mining has been diminished greatly. Except marrow root and iron. You can't buy them anywhere.

Now you have me thinking how there's no star without any aliens.

That's one thing that's bugged me since the beginning. Every single planet has robots/waypoints/etc. I was told before there was a story reason for it, but never made it that far in playing

Solely because they put themselves in a corner for fuel resources so you always need access to those facilities. Should have copied Elite more and let us fuel scoop and be more self reliant. Really makes the galaxy feel homogenous. Also, all 3 races are stationary and don't really "live" differently. They all have the same facilities and vary slightly in tech they offer centering around "we war race" "we smart dudes and "we merchants" without any in-game presence or impact reflecting that.

Monoliths have the lore about it, but it's the most flimsy excuse and doesn't really justify every single planet being inhabited - even if that is the story they want to tell, it's a shitty one that directly opposes the initial pitch of pure exploration and solitude.

There is a lore reason for everything in the game, lol. There are now planets without buildings though. But still sentinels. Although that is now explained too.

Can't agree with adding sim elements to this at all.

Really? Fuel scoop is more sci-fi than throwing iron into an engine or popping plutonium into my spaceship spring legs. Elite honestly has less sim elements when it comes to fueling and exploring.

I received the mission to craft voltaic cells from Cave Marrow. But I dont have the recipe to craft them. Is this a bug? Already have 100 Marrow in my inventory and the quest says I have to craft them.

Set the mission as your main mission, it will direct you to the NPC.

If I remember, you take them to the scientist in your home base and they teach you how to.

Pirates have always been annoying. being able to stave them off now is a plaster but not a fix. They're still way too frequent.

You should be able to hang out with space without constant threat of being fought and often losing everything.

I wonder how they'd go about it. Right now we can't reach the stars and we're always on one side of it. Also seeing these planets where it shows the remains of a stream or river just makes me hope they can get running water in at some point. They show the aftermath pretty well.
