what this guy said.
please dont use the "do you laugh at people wearing band/sports apparel" argument. sports/music are hobbies that have positive connotations. video games are uncool, despite what kotaku and neogaf tell you.
the only thing you're showing off is your complete lack of social accuity whatsoever, and no one thinks you're a lone wolf rebel badass who's breaking all the fashion rules. all they're going to see is some ugly, cheap screenprinted bullshit and (if they're like me) avoid conversation with you entirely.
ps. mario/pacman shirts are getting a pass? holy shit, hasn't the ship sailed on nintendo inside jokes yet? there's NOTHING clever about this tired crap.
Baseless statements are baseless. The stigma attached to video games as something only the "geek/nerd" subculture is more likely fading, if anything. In fact, the developments in video gaming over the past decade has made it even more mainstream and socially acceptable (the Wii, Guitar Hero, the DS, etc.)
Sure, if you were a kid in the 50s and 60s, you probably wouldn't have had a childhood where video games were predominantly part of your culture. Parents having kids right now had childhoods of their own where video games were a huge part of culture.
As far as gaming clothes go, why do you assume people wear them because they're trying to be a lone wolf rebel badass? Perhaps they're a fan of a particular game and they're expressing themselves like any sports fan would their favorite team?
People see a gaming t-shirt and avoid conversation with them entirely? Please. You have got to be one shallow asshole to have that kind of sense of superiority. Quit speaking on behalf of society like you're some kind of social expert.
