It becomes the 4th title to hold four consecutive weeks at the top of our All Formats Chart in 2012 along with both FIFA 12, FIFA 13 and Lego Batman 2 (which has 5 weeks). ‘Far Cry 3’ (-8%) holds the No2 ahead of EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ (+18%) which stays at No3 despite a strong increase in sales. Retailer promotions continue to propel ‘Just Dance 4’ (+54%) up the chart from No6 to No4 ahead of another Ubisoft title ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (+10%) at No5. ‘Hitman Absolution’ (-3%) slips to No6 while ‘Halo 4’ (52,340 / +36%) climbs a spot to No7.

A strong sales push sees ‘WWE ’13’ (+124%) back into the Top 10 at No10. Further down the chart the release of Sega’s ‘Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed’ (+39%) on PS Vita sees the title continue its week on week climb to No16. There’s also a debut for ‘Paper Mario Sticker Star’ new for Nintendo 3DS at No40.

I'm so glad I didn't buy a Wii U.

Abandon ship and produce a proper console (at €200,- - €250,-) without the gimmicks. That will do it.

Posted again here.

About the FR Top 3 Wii U launch titles >

1 - New Super Mario Bros. U Nintendo
2 - COD : Blacks Ops 2 Activision Blizzard
3 - ZombiU Ubisoft

Interesting, COD BLOPS 2 performed better than Zombi U. Oh and I'm pretty sure the U French launch was bigger than the UK one in term of consoles stock and sales.

problem nintendo has is they are casual, and the price for casuals is too high, when you hear the name call of duty or other adult rated games do you ever think of Nintendo ? most people will think xbox pc or ps3. nintendeo needs to change this or they are gonna be screwed, its quite clear the WiiU doesnt have something catchy like the Wii (motion Controls n that )did .

Isn't Paper Mario 3DS, not NDS?

That and Layton ruined my potentially hilarious 'only Mario games charted on Wii-U and 3DS' jibe :(

Launch week unknown.

~194K+launch week.
If this is still ~90% of the market, total should be around 535K assuming a similar level drop in week 2 that Black OPS2 had. Raw number is 489K

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
When is WiiU launching in eur.....oh wait.

Poor Paper Mario - but expected. It will do better on the main land.

I don't see that selling at all. At that price it would basically be the same thing as the Wii U but without the pad.

No, better graphics, more of an entertainment machine. Also, more support from Nintendo and 3rd party would work. 3rd party wouldn't need to bother with the pad.

Far, far too early to call for any long term failures, but that is poorer than I'd expect with the WiiU for both the time of year and it being a console launch at all.

It would be worse. The GameCube was the last Nintendo console that tried to go neck-and-neck with the PS2 / Xbox...

...and its worldwide sales are currently LOWER than the 3DS.

UK market is really dying.

It's not that much different to what is happening elsewhere in the Western world. All dedicated gaming hardware and software is taking a hit. It's just that some are declining faster than others whilst yet others are facing near irrelevance.

The €100 difference in price covers the tablet so I really wouldn't expect them to do much to improve the hardware at that price.

My god, UK market is really dying. Funny that some time ago, people were saying it would have been overcome Japan, lol.

So, Wii U stumbles and the UK market is dying?

I know UK sales have been down dramatically this year, but let's be honest, Wii U was never going to be the console to stir up the excitement again.

Anecdotally perhaps, but people are genuinely eagerly anticipating 720/PS4 news here. It's been too long between generations, and we're seeing the results of that in sales slumps across the world.

I'm not saying 720/PS4 will fix everything, but they'll definitely get the ball rolling. That coupled with a Wii U price drop + a likely barrage of must-have Nintendo games late 2013 and the industry will finally start to pick up again.

They seem to have some big problems in general in the UK. I assume they have a pretty shitty standing there these days.

Yeah, looking at the chart there's more to this than just the Wii U for the Nintendo. The 3DS doesn't look to be shifting much at the moment either. I hear Paper Mario had supply issues but even so, charting at 40 is not good.

The chart has a very familiar look to it for this time of year. Major annual franchises with games receiving huge pre-Christmas price cuts rising above some of the other noise. Other than Far Cry 3 and Hitman Absolution, which both had pretty big marketing, the UK top 10 is the years dance game, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, FIFA and Halo, all across 360 and PS3, and what's left of the Wii's enourmous install base for Just Dance. All this chart says to me is that if you're not one of those 5 things and if you're not at 50% off, you're generally not charting all that well.

I don't think abandoning the Wii did them any favours either.
I think not replacing the Wii quickly enough was the real problem. Microsoft practically tied a cinderblock to the Xbox and tossed it into a river, but they replaced it immediately with the Xbox 360. Nintendo collected profits from a zombie console for 2+ years in comparison and then expected everything to turn up rosy...

Wii U software sales are 'natural'; the system pre-orders were abysmal [less than Vita], so I guess it should be around a total of 60k or so of the system; it makes sense to have very low software sales.

It won't. Depending on how powerful MS /Sony go, it'll be years before they achieve any kind of market relevance or penetration as well.

If Wii U seriously stumbles, I wouldn't be surprised if MS and Sony wait until 2014 to launch successors. Why rush into a moribund economy and take on greater losses when your competitor is of no threat?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Yeah, but the 3DS also has been doing pretty shitty over there, NSMB2/Pokemon fell off the charts a lot faster than in other countries (if I remember correctly). I don't think the price is the main issue, 3DS isn't selling like hotcakes either.

Well, yes. In other countries we have NSMB2 in top 10, while in UK it's around 20th weekly. And we'll probably see Paper Mario having a much better debut in other European countries.

But still, this can't be the reason Wii U is doing this bad in UK. This is possibly a Vita-like trend.

I think its mostly a result of offering a product thats not compelling for the pricepoint they want.

But doing (probably) ~60k in your first 10 days on the market is emblematic of a severe failure on multiple fronts. Software, hardware, price, marketing, all the U.S launch issues creating a negative image and the mediocre critical response etc.

But we've seen, the PS3 had a lot of these problems, and Sony managed to turn it around. Nintendo is already halfway through that process with the 3DS too. The Wii U launch will be a costly mistake and a squandered opportunity, but long term all bets are still off.

Price drop is coming, better/more exclusives are coming, better marketing? It'll be interesting to see Nintendo kick into high gear in 2013 in response.

I think with this price and no killer app, they automatically have a shitty standing.

I'd agree. The Wii was £179 at release plus it had two very important killer apps the Wiimote and Wii Sports.

Wii Sports was the major killer app for the Wii. I hope Nintendo didn't think that Nintendoland was going to do the same thing.

Too many competing devices this Christmas,no must have software, and no stand out feature

Sadly I don't see much sun coming to Nintendo over the next few months.

Wii U needs marketing full stop. Infomercials aren't working at all, Wii U needs imagination in advertisement. Something like the "U" in the US ads, that's a great imaginative thing to show in an ad.

Bear in mind what other posters have said regarding Wii U. You can change your marketing, your price, your first party software, you can upgrade your OS and network features and footprint over time. All these things will help. What you can't do is change the hardware and technical specifications of your system to match what your competitors are doing.

Nintendo released the WiiU too late.

The WiiU should've been released somewhere in 2010. By doing that, Nintendo could also think about releasing a new console in 2014/2015 that could actually compete with the competition.
