Persona 4 Arena European release date bad news [Update: Suffering continues]

We still don't know this for sure.

The best option would be for Index to open an Atlus Europe.

I don't believe them when they say they "love our European fans."

I think it's safe to say they will be since they're the official distributor for Persona Europe.

Disappointment of the year. Fuck them, I'll watch the story on youtube.

Seriously considering this.

I mean, there's barely any gameplay anyway, right?

I think it's safe to say they will be since they're the official distributor for Persona Europe.

I would see this as unlikely after this shambles. Pretty sure Atlus will be very aware of the kerfuffle this has caused.

That and the crazy low sales this will probably have.

Fuck sake, i can understand certain games being delayed but a fighting game has no excuse especially as its already been localised for an English speaking region.

Looks like Atlus are saying goodbye some more of my hard earned penny's i wont be picking this game up now.

And I just bought the P4A arcade stick from Japan in preparation for the supposed PAL release of the game in early September.

Well, this sucks. Got hyped for the game and an interest in Persona 4 in general thanks to GAF and Giant Bomb but now it looks like I won't be able to get my hands on it for a while. Sad how Europe can still get the short end of the stick when it comes to video games in this day and age.

Hey Atlus, mainland europe loves japanese games, maybe you should try to nurture that and stop treating us like an afterthought. It's shameful :(

They own a "Persona Europe" Twitter account and they recently created a Persona Europe website, I'd take that as a confirmation.

Ghostlight might still work on other SMT titles, maybe with such focus we'll be able see the 3DS titles sooner rather than later...we need at least one good thing happening.

I'd assume there's a contract between them so I don't think they're going anywhere.

Reading that statement it sounds like there's some part of it that's out of their control but they're still bullshitting us and not saying what it is. If the "issues surrounding development" is in reference to the game itself then I don't buy that for a second since they're happy to constantly show the game around Europe and are showing it off Today in London Gamerbase and then at the weekend at i46. So it has to be something between Atlus and Zen.

We're still being lied to which is the worst thing since they've left it this late to tell us we still don't have a release date.

Fuck you Atlus. This was one of my mosr anticipated games of the year. But as TTT2 draws closer, and Harada keeps revealing all the fanservice, Im afraid my time will go to that game.

Its even shittier for me. I live in the UAE and we're a PAL region when it comes to games and movies. Not only will the US version NOT run on my (2) PAL PS3s, but I will moving to the states in January, taking one of these PAL PS3s with me, and even though this game is abundant there I still wouldnt be able to play it because of the region lock.

You deserve all the shit for this Atlus. I dont even hate Zen United. Sure they took millenia to localize Calamity Trigger, but i had already imported the NA version from play_asia. The region lock isnt Zen's fault, and the region lock is the main issue

Yes, the evidence does appear to point that way, but I'm still not sure about that. For example, they haven't said a peep about Golden yet. There's a chance they'll publish Arena because of the connection to Arc System Works and leave it at that.

A question for those of you who've purchased other recent Atlus and Arc System Works titles released in Europe: Do they bother to do full text translations into common languages other than English for these releases? Or are they typically the same English-only release as the one we Americans purchased months previously?

It depends on the European publisher. But usually Atlus games are English only. Notable exceptions are Catherine and SMT: Nocturne (Lucifer's Call in Europe), which have translated text.

It's like I went back in time. All them region locks.

Will pick this up eventually in a bargain bin, just for the story.

I think all the Atlus' titles are just in English. The Persona PSP PAL releases were atleast and I'm pretty sure every SMT on PS2 was just in English. I don't know about Arc System Works titles though.

Whilst the region lock is a major dick move by Atlus, let's not absolve Zen/PQube of any guilt here because of it.

If they made sure games had a timely release, the region lock wouldn't even be an issue for 95% of people. Most import to "get the game early"; nobody's interested in scamming local distributors out of a few bucks by getting it cheaper from America. It's certainly been less of a problem this generation than it was last gen, and PS3 being region free has been less of a godsend than it would've been last gen due to the fact that most publishers understand that global releases are important nowadays.

Still, Zen are incompetent buffons. All they do on the "Official Persona Europe" Facebook page is post pictures of Woody raping Aigis, fan art of Pokemon (as SMT arcanas), and photographs of the game that people with foreign consoles (or living in other continents) imported, as if they're rubbing it in.

Assholes.

Either way, I hope someone from Atlus is reading the butthurt about this. If you're going to region lock your games, at least make sure you're hooked up with a competent European publisher. Ghostlight seem to do a good job in getting this stuff out timely, and even if it's delayed they're very open about the process unless they're under NDA. All Zen seem to care about is spamming people's Facebook feed with stupid (and in some cases, offensive) pictures and rubbing it in that we can't play it right now. At the very least, can those clowns. They're completely fucking useless.

Recently I've bought European versions of:

- Persona 3 Portable
- Persona 2 Innocent Sin
- Persona 4
- Persona 3 FES

All of them were identical to the US version, save for the local publisher's logo displaying on boot, and any PAL optimisations made in the PS2 games.

I can only speak for BlazBlue CS:E, which is as far as I know the same as the American version. (English is the only of the multi5 languages there)

Huh. Wow.

guess what?
thanks atlus, and fuck you zen :)
I'll either skip this or go for 15 bomba POSSIBLY used games, so you won't see even a frigging cent from me...
maybe next time you'll learn to value your fanbase a BIT more.. europe pays like americans and japanese... you want to earn from us? give us a normal treatment.. you can't publish a game in the eu? than by all means DO let other publish it, but leave your game region free, so that if anything goes awry we can import..
maybe with a HUGE eu bomba, they'll learn to either give us timely release or don't bother at all :)
A beu is all about the community, guess what happens later this year?
september doa5//ttt2.. so who'll give a shit about this one later? playber online will drop...
plus we might even get a gg remake or bb:gp by new year so guess where your us/jp aws fanbase will be? and think that if the same is available you'll sell many p4a copies?
ah well, 39 eur saved, thanks atlus and zen

I'm still going to get this since it is not Zen's fault and I want that game. But I'm sincerely pissed off, I hate region locks more than anything on consoles since Europe was and sometimes still is a wasteland when it comes to niche titles... If that's the price to pay for having japanese voice tracks and because of that potential back-imports to Japan, I take the English-only ones please and import a second copy from Japan if I ever feel like a big Japan language fan, kthxbye.

I guess it's especially pressing since it's a beat 'em up and not a rpg...

That's unfortunate about the language selection. I could understand the delay of a title if they were at least using that time to translate the game into other languages so a wider audience could enjoy it, but if in most cases it's a several month (or year) turnaround for a release that's identical to the US English edition, that's a real waste.

I understand that it can be a lot of work coordinating distribution, manufacturing and certification with local console authorities, but there doesn't seem to be a problem of (near-)simultaneous releases in Japan and the US. Look at Atlus USA & Aksys Games' work on other ASW titles, or The King of Fighters XIII; they found a way to coordinate the localization & production of the games to get the games out in multiple territories at once. I've never clearly understood why this has been so hard for the European publishers, especially now that Zen United appears to be an "official partner" for ASW.

That's weird, I always assumed part of the delay was translating the text into other languages. If they're not doing that, I don't know why the delay would be so long. Hope you guys in Europe don't have to wait too long, that sucks.

Well that's...certainly something.

I wonder if it's certification problems or something stupid like that. Some of the European countries are really touchy about Japanese games. DOA Dimensions was pulled in Sweden because it was accused of being child pornography.

Huh. Wow.

I know.

I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not, but someone in the P4A OT also said they once posted a picture of Noel (from Blazblue) face down in a pile of her own puke. They're appalling.

And just in case anyone else wants to see, here's the link to the post in question. I don't think it's bad enough to be NSFW, but you know, it is a rape "joke" so trigger warning.

Man, really sucks for the European folks. Especially given all the story spoilers in the game for Persona 3/4 fans, as it pretty much looks like the game sets up the next installment. Avoiding spoilers that long after release is going to get more and more difficult.

I wonder if it's best for us all to just watch the story mode online.

I got hit the other day. A pal from America, not realising that it wasn't out over here (under the assumption that most games release only a few days later nowadays) splurted something out, thinking that I'd have played it considering how big of a P4 fan I am.

Thankfully it wasn't a big one about the ending or anything, but I'm sure it'll happen some day.

I wonder if it's best for us all to just watch the story mode online.
I have seriously considered it. I'd rather watch it, even in shitty YouTube quality, than have any more of it spammed on IM or IRC to me.

I bought the game but this seriously was a shitty move from atlus.
They should've taken into account how strong the competition for fighters is gonna be these months with DOA5 and TT2 coming out.
And honestly euro persona fans who just wanna play the story can use youtube, given the Visual novel like structure of it, they wont be missing anything honestly.

I'm no expert, but watching on Youtube is a pretty crappy way to experience a game.

I still want to play P4A though i just wait for a cheap UK Copy at this point.

It's better than getting spoiled by people who think "it's been out for a month already!"

I knew the "big twist" after about a week, but I'm terribly unlucky with spoilers (someone managed to ruin A Dance With Dragons for me a month before it even came out).

Its funny how this exposes how self-centered people can be when Zen U is just being a good business and tailoring the product for the market it will sell in the most.

The thing is, Zen U's primary consumer base is straight in central Europe, particularly France and Spain. They were the ones who hung on for the translations of BlazBlue and still made them a commercial success despite a massive delay. So while the English language players throw toys out of the pram and declare doom upon the game because they can't have it right now. Zen U doesn't give a fuck because they already have a willing and waiting audience who can hang on for a decent translation and the game will sell well to those people. It's not like BlazBlue made any dent in the charts in the British Isles or Scandinavia but it sold extremely well in France and Italy. That's the market, and thats their priority.
