Since royalan has been posting fun tin foil theories lately, I do wonder what people think a real "it all crumbles down" day would look like? In the hypothetical, overwhelmingly unlikely scenario that Comey finds direct treason or something.

For instance, I can't get the image of Trump in handcuffs being escorted out of the White House and the gravity of that. I imagine deals would be cut and there'd be leaks and stories for like a month straight. Of course Comey would probably give him more dignity than that, but it's just this image lodged in my brain.

Anyways, just my fanciful dreams. Curious what Trump impeachment fanfic anyone else has written in their head.

It would be funny if Democrats took back everything by 2020 and passed a Medicare For All-type bill that undid this monstrosity within the first 100 days, compared to all the sturm und drang we're seeing in the GOP.

Knowing them though they'd just pass ACA again.
It helps that the left has pretty clear and actionable goals for a lot of its ideas. I realize it would be more complicated than "Medicare, but for everyone" but they're not trying to contort themselves into making something as pleasing-to-no-one as the AHCA (well, except to rich people that pay less taxes). Even if we have to compromise down to a public option we're mostly clear about what we want. Same with the minimum wage, infrastructure ideas (rail, clean energy, broadband). If we do get power the goals the left has articulated shouldn't be impossible to put into policy.

That would never happen. Nobody actually has the authority to arrest the President in such a way. It would likely be a much slower process unless the House started articles of impeachment and Trump tried to make some insane powergrab--in which point they would probably pull and all nighter to rush through a trial and get him out of there. But if they went through the proper channel even if wrongdoing/treason was public knowledge they would spend a few weeks drawing up AoI, and then another few to have a trial in the Senate before he could be "arrested".

I get that. It's just midnight here and I'm having dumb musings.

It's been such an exhausting news day and it's only Monday. Can't imagine the beatings still to come this week.

Does Ivanka avoid anti-nepotism laws by not getting an official title? The Russian hacking investigation gets so much attention but these types of things seem just as problematic for the legitimacy of his presidency.
It probably helps avoid it, but there's also some legal precedence for White House staff jobs being exempt from the anti-nepotism law. The lack of an official title probably has more to do with avoiding as many disclosures as possible and muddying the waters over ethical concerns.

Was this posted?

FBI probing far-right news sites.

The sources said Russian operatives seemingly strategically timed computer commands called ”bots" to blitz social media with pro-Trump stories. The bots were used at times when Trump appeared struggling with 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, they continued.

McClatchy's sources said the bots mainly created millions of Facebook and Twitter posts linking to articles on far-right websites including Breitbart News, InfoWars and the Kremlin-backed RT News and Sputnik News.

”This may be one of the most impactful information operations in the history of intelligence," one former U.S. intelligence official told McClatchy, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the matter's sensitivity.

Bonus Article; Trump now says U.S. Military "should never ever have left" Iraq.

Contrary to a series of past statements on the issue, President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. military ”should never ever have left" Iraq in 2011.

”Certainly we shouldn't have left. We should never ever have left," Trump told Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi at the White House. ”And a vacuum was created, and we discussed what happened."

This ties into something I was going to mention. BBC has been going on about how the Iraqi Prime Minister has been praising Trump since they met saying he is "more willing to work with them" than Obama was. Which can only mean he's trying to get Trump to fight off ISIS so Iraqi soldiers aren't in danger.

This has been their approach for the last two weeks or so, ever since they banned Kellyane, and it was long overdue. Joe has been as vicious as Bill Maher lately, which is something I thought I'd never see.

Mika and Joe caressed Trump's balls for almost the entire primary and general election, they should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps Trump needs to invite them to another sit down, so he can get his two lap dogs back in line.

In your mind, when exactly do you see the primary and general election happening, if not months ago

There's video evidence out there of the three of them chatting and having a grand old time in between segments on their show. Mika and Joe were behaving as if they were fans, praising him and whatnot.

They've been pretty open that they've known Donald for years. They're also pretty open about how their opinion of Donald has changed, as a candidate, and now, as President.

I've said this before, but Joe and Mika aren't Rachel Maddow or Hannity, and no should be expecting that type of commentary from them.

Trump aide hid payments from Ukraine party with Moscow ties.

A Ukrainian lawmaker on Tuesday released new financial documents allegedly showing that a former campaign chairman to President Trump laundered payments from the party of a disgraced ex-leader of Ukraine using offshore accounts in Belize and Kyrgyzstan.

The new documents may revive questions about the ties between the Trump aide, Paul Manafort, and the party of the former president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, who has been in hiding in Russia since being overthrown by pro-Western protestors in 2014. He is wanted in Ukraine on corruption charges.

Come on Washington Post, it was his fucking Campaign Manager... not some low level aide...

Also, obligatory; Trump picks the best people.

The problem is, even back then when they were buddy buddy with Trump, Trump was just as fucked up as he is now. I mean, it doesn't take too many brain cells to rub together to come to the conclusion that he would be a disaster.

What does thr FC want? A bill that literally allows poor people to die in front of the sliding doors to a hospital?

No. Remember, nobody was denied care, there's always the Emergency Room. They want a clean repeal bill with no replacement. Which is funny because all the non-FC Republicans ran on "Repeal and Replace". This is why I'm pretty sure Republican's cannot actually do Repeal and Replace. Without the HFC they can't clear the House, and House Dem's have just enough seats to ensure no bill ever gets out that actually Repeals.

Does that even require a whole write up?

Donna Brazile pointlessly leaked a debate question to Hillary Clinton. The end.

It's not even that nefarious. She leaked 2 topics that would inevitably show up at Town Hall debates. She advised Clinton to come up with a better answer on the Flint Water Crisis--for a Town Hall that took place in FLINT GOD DAMN MICHIGAN!>?<51 And she advised her to come up with a better response on the topic of the Death Penalty--for a Town Hall debate in which it was well publicized that someone who narrowly escaped the Death Penalty and was exonerated would be at and probably get a question in.

Neither of these things were "leaking a debate question" as people present it. It was more like reminding her campaign to do their homework--at worst. We also will never really know the kinds of things she sent to the Sanders campaign, not that it would matter because every response he ever gave was about how bad Banks were and how Wall Street was destroying the middle class.

No no... To die at home. Because the sliding doors would open as the patient died, and that'd cost money.

Oh, true. Don't want to inconvenience white people with real jobs that offer affordable insurance by making them step over the bodies of the poor as they walk into the ER.

The fact that RussiaLeaks is linking to HA Goodman's articles and website goes to show that "progressives" can be as big of Russian shills as conservatives.

Regardless, the Senate is going to be the story. Everyone keeps debating if the House will pass it, but the Senate is the sticking point. There are enough nuts in the House to push this through, but I don't see it in the Senate.

How so? Could you expound on that?

The Freedom Caucus position -- and really the Republican Party, but the HFC conservatives are the only ones who will come close to admitting it -- is that the government should have no role in providing people with health coverage. If you can't afford insurance on your own or get it through your employer, then that's your problem, not the taxpayer's.

It ignores some key financial realities (like, unless a hospital is turning you away for lack of insurance, the taxpayers will end up footing the bill anyway) and is a very sociopathic approach for the religious right, but the gist of it is basically social Darwinism.

How so? Could you expound on that?

There are far-left progressives, just as there are far-right conservatives, who just like to be contrarians. They don't actually want to govern, if even they know how to, because their lives are effectively devoted to being the opposition and crowing about everything being done is a betrayal of your values. Contrary to Reagan's "I'd rather take 80 percent of what I want than nothing" belief, the far-left and far-right want 100 percent of what they want or nothing at all -- and they'd prefer nothing at all, really, because that enables them to stay enraged. Especially if they happen to make a living off their perpetual rage.

Why do they align with Russia? I'm not really sure about the far-left -- maybe siding with the U.S.'s biggest adversary is meant to be seen as a big fuck you to the U.S.? -- but with the far-right, Russia represents the white, Christian, cultural conservative oasis that they wish America was.

Mika has gone a little too far over the line IMO. I respect her opinion (and think it's valid) but I hear her editorializing over her panel pretty much every morning, and I only listen to the show briefly on my commute. The facade of objectivism is completely out the window, which is fine if that's where they want the show to go, but I don't see it being sustainable.

Just watch. Republicans today will gush over Trump's "negotiating skills" and enough of the holdouts will change their votes.
These senators aren't going to risk their lifetime cushy jobs over appeasing Trump, a man many of them don't even like. For a bill they don't like.

The senate also isn't going to appreciate having to write the majority of the bill.

People still thinking that it's not passing. It's passing. Republicans fall in line and they'll be doomed in 2018.

Again--the Senate is an entirely different animal than the House.

I literally lol'd last night when I read that Ryan's Medicaid amendment was just an instruction to the Senate to write that part of the law for him.

Thing is, the bill doesn't do enough of what the hold-outs want. They may back it because they don't think they'll get better, but the FC seems like its ideologically pure enough they will wait and hope for better.

Isn't it the tax credits? It made Medicaid worse but also essentially left the tax credit section blank so the Senate could write it.

The Comey non-answers are the most important yesterday.

NUNES: I just want to make sure we get this on the record. Do you have any evidence that any current Trump White House or administration official coordinated with the Russian intelligence services?

COMEY: Not a question I can answer.

NUNES: I figured you were going to say that, but I just wanted to make sure we got it on the record. How about counselor to the president, Kellyanne Conway?

COMEY: It’s the same answer. And as I said earlier, I constantly want to ask people, don’t over interpret the fact that I say I can’t comment. I’m not going to comment on anybody.
