How the heck did they sell 15 million of those things?
Alot of women....

PS3 and 360 will probably finish up at around 75 million each and the Wii will surely break 100 million.
That gives us 250 million total.
Last gen would've been around 211 million I think (PS2 154, Xbox 24, GCN 22, DC 11)...
I doubt either conole will see 100 million. Both are winding down heavily despite Sony and MS' best efforts. The market is tapped out.

Wouldn't matter though. Still pretty much equal to its direct competitor.

And yet people keep saying that Sony is dying. : /
I don't believe it, SONY is doomed, am I right?(lol)
Yeah, they've moved this much units, but at what costs?
Don't see how the market is tap out for Sony the have much better distribution chain compare MS or Nintendo for other markets .
Don't think so. The 360 is already 7 years into its life cycle. We're already seeing a rapid decline in MoM returns. The market has reached its limit and is waiting for replenishment. Not going to happen unless both cease production in a few months.
There are still enough consoles to sell and money to make.
Well deserved. Will probably do PS1 numbers by the end of the gen. And people scoffed when I said the ps3 would likely be second place in two quarters. That's looking very likely at the moment.

70 million Xbox 360 last month + halo 4 + black friday + Wii U.
What the hell does the supply chain have to do with anything? When I say the market is tapped out I mean most of the people interested in one of these consoles likely already has one.

True... but again:I thought for sure MS would have sold more than 70mill but apparently they're tied right now. and the fact that sony started a year late just makes you realize how hard they worked to get to this point. this has to be one of the greatest comebacks in gaming history.

Let's not forget how Playstation was the bigger brand and MS had to work harder to gain, or rather steal, mind share... especially coming from a generation where they had a far smaller user base.
ps4 has been canceled

Halo fans have already long purchased the 360.
Sony's presence world wide will push them over the 360 soon.

Not really, PS2 sold an additional 50 million units after the HD gen began largely because Sony moved into additional markets with a lower cost platform. The same will likely be the same for the PS3. The effect won't be as pronounced as the PS3 is not the PS2 but I doubt we've seen the last of big numbers for PS3.
November numbers? Did you forgot 2011?
Nope, I remember clearly that Microsoft massively over shipped last year because they misjudged the impact of kinect, which really won't be a factor at all this year.

Massive success in a bubble, pretty big failure relative to its predecessor.
Is that a fair comment?
Also, the fact that its so close to the 360 despite its later launch, higher price and advertising/killer app problems is constantly surprising to me
Your last sentence is the rub. Neither of these systems is the PS2.
I didn't say either system would stop selling; I said the market for them is tapped out.
In order to penetrate tertiary markets both platforms are going to have to drop drastically in price. The PS2 easily transitioned into that space because it was at the end of its natural lifecycle by that time. Both of these systems have artificially kept the price high, which will yield higher returns per console but lower total sales across the board. Sony themselves have expressed more than once that they prefer to recieve more per console than to lower the price and move kit, oresumably because of the increased cost in rolling out into those markets.
By the time these consoles are ready for that we'll be well into the next generation and their viability in the major markets will have well died off.

Do you forget that this is not only about the US market?November numbers? Did you forgot 2011?
PS1 had the same lasting power in tertiary markets. ps3 will probably do similar numbers to that system.
Well certainly see a price drop to 179-199 in the next year, which is the new 129.
Playstation is a big brand in Europe and Asia (where people really couldn't care less about Xbox in relative terms) The 360 also has the biggest barrier to overcome in order to sell namely - Paid subs to play multiplayer. Xbox Live Gold is useless outside of the states for all but that due to none of the VAS traveling between regions.
I'm not sure how it is in mainland Europe, but the 360 has a larger retail presence than the PS3 in my experience in the UK at the moment. Bigger ad campaigns, more shelf space.
In terms of audience mindshare and popularity its still behind I think, but I can see it being level by the time the next gen rolls out
I wonder how many buyers bought a PS3 and a 360.
I probably won't buy both HD twins next gen.

So now that it's going tie and surpass its competitor, ''it doesn't matter''.
lol the bitterness.
Do you forget that this is not only about the US market?
That 51.8M figure was through June 2011. They talked about it in September at TGS, but it was from the end of their latest fiscal quarter in June.Getting close to the PSP (which apparently has sold 71.4 million as of last year), guess it will pass it this year.
But still, according to that article that mentioned the PSP sales last year
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-14-ps3-worldwide-sales-reach-51-8-million
The PS3 had only sold 52 million by Sept 2011. 18 million in a year and 2 months seems a lot.
UK is an exception in a sea of Sonyland.
I did. I bought a 360, PS3, Wii, PSP this gen.
I already have a Vita in terms of "next gen". I suppose I will buy most consoles again this time round.
I only have a 360, but I am constantly on the fence about a PS3. One time I almost bought one out of pure impulse, no sale or nothing.
The $200 bundle is so tempting, doubly so since I need a blu-ray player.
