I read up on him just now. I believe he will change things. A ray of hope to me.


Sen. Charles Schumer, set to be the next Senate minority leader, is reportedly backing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) to serve as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
Citing a source close to the New York Democrat, Politico reported Friday that Schumer spoke with Ellison on Thursday and “supports him for chair.”

“Without a Democratic White House, Schumer's view is the DNC is where grassroots organizing in sync with leg battles should be organized,” the source said.

The reported endorsement comes a day after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also threw his support behind Ellison, a co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the first Muslim elected to Congress.

Another progressive favorite, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), said in an interview with MSNBC that Ellison, who has expressed interest in the job, would make a “terrific” DNC leader.

Sounds good to me. We really need to show up in the midterms. I'm hoping he can harness the FUD that's happening with progressives and turn that into action.

I believe that the DNC needs new blood.

Ellison is a fine man. He saw the rise of Trump before many others did. That's someone we need.

After the complacent blue-dog idiots who previously occupied the chair, Keith Ellison as DNC chair would be absolutely welcome, and if both Bernie and Warren are basically endorsing him, he's probably the guy needed for the midterms and 2020 in order to get the DNC's ass in gear.

Always liked him. He doesn't seem to have his head in the clouds or up his ass like a lot of the Democratic leadership. Love to see it happen.

Schumer has a lot of sway. Good to see some of the old guard of the party embracing Ellison instead of digging their heels in with retread or status quo options.

The establishment failed it's party. I hope we can begin to see Democrats following Bernie's lead and we can take the enthusiasm to the midterms. We can't let Trump have a 4 year term completely unchecked.

The good thing about the left is when they mess up, they learn and fix things faster than the right. It took the right 8 years, and really, they still haven't solved their issues in terms of why they screwed up. They just got lucky. I expect the DNC to have thing in order for 2018 and 2020 so we can have a good redrawing of the districts.

Basically another 10 years of gerrymandering and it'll be 2020 for the Democrats next REAL chance at flipping the Senate or House.

I can agree with this. Obama was an anomaly that the DNC was forced to acknowledge and support. Aside from Bams, they haven't shown much of a clue since the 90s.

It's a little early to claim Trump supporters are still going to be motivated, given we have no idea what the state of the country will be in two years. The last midterms democrats did well in were 2006, under a Republican president.

no. 2018 senate seats are relatively safe either leaning or hard blue. likewise 2020 senate seats are largely safe (provided no MASSIVE GOP fuckup in Trump's first term)in either leaning or hard red states.

without a massive GOP failure in his first term, 2022 is the first chance to flip the senate.

2018 is almost certainly impossible to flip the house.. but if we can still erode the house... that would be something. pick up another 4-6 seats in 2018.. and 2020 no becomes <15 seats needed.

yes, they are mostly hard or leaning Dem seats. not really battleground seats.

Missouri
Ohio

are all leaning. Of those, Indiana is the only one with a single term senator.

NV and AZ are both R leaning, and both are single term senators.

My friends are also excited by this but I have lost too much faith in the American people to think this is a good idea.

You can't have people of color, women and especially not a Muslim (who are soon to be considered illegal) as part of the head of your party and expect to win people in the Rust Belt or the South.

Don't we have any fat, white liberals from the midwest or south with charisma?
