DNC Asks All Staffers For Resignation Letters

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez has launched a major overhaul of the party's organization, which has been stung by recent crises — and the DNC has requested resignation letters from all current staffers.

"This is longstanding precedent at the DNC and has happened during multiple Chair transitions," said DNC spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa. "The process was started before the election of the new Chair. From the beginning, Tom has been adamant that we structure the DNC for future campaigns. Current and future DNC staff will be integral to that effort. Over the last few months, the DNC staff has done incredible work under immense pressure to hold Trump accountable."

Perez has spent his first weeks on the job in "active listening mode," hearing from Democrats in Washington and in small group meetings across the country before making any big moves.

"What we're trying to do is culture change," he told NBC News between stops of a listening tour in Michigan on Friday. "We're repairing a plane at 20,000 feet. You can't land the plane, shut it down, and close it until further notice."

And for those still invested in Ellison:
Earlier this month, Perez held a meeting to discuss the issue with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sanders, both of whom supported Rep. Keith Ellison in the DNC chair race.

Schumer, pointing to Ellison and Sanders, told Perez, "If he's happy, and if he's happy, then I'm happy," according to two sources.

Perez has included Ellison in many of the DNC's public events so far, but the party's charter makes no provision for a deputy chair, so Ellison does not have vote on the DNC. That could be fixed by naming the Minnesota congressman to one of the 75 slots the chairman gets to appoint to the national committee.

Ellison's political director has also been helping to oversee staffing decisions in some key departments in the DNC, according to several sources.

Good, previous DNC staffers are just toxic right now to the party. This is a chance to clear out the bad ones while filling in some new blood mixed in with the old.

As per article, standard when new chairs transition, but hopefully its restructured in any way possible that includes a unified Democratic party. Stop with the defeatism. Need to deal with the fractures before the midterms.

Great to hear, they need some new and progressive blood. The party is old, and people want change.

This is to be expected. Hopefully this will settle down the Left wings tea party

"We want to make it clear to Democrats that they need to pick which side they're on," she said. "They can either pick the side of Donald Trump and his Wall Street cronies, or they can pick the side of the people who are on the streets."

No more middle ground, everyone.

As for the Senate, Uygur and his allies' most immediate targets are moderate Democrats Sens. Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. (Manchin recently has dared progressive activists to primary him.) No progressive challenger has yet materialized to take on either of them, but Uygur is confident he will find contenders.

"I don't have a time frame on it, but I can guarantee you that it'll happen," he said. "But Manchin is the tip of the iceberg. Who cares about Manchin? We're going after the core of the party—he's just the symptom."

Bye bye blue senators in red states. I'm just hoping they go through the Democrat primaries like they're supposed to and not run 3rd party and cost the Democrats their seats.

Yes, the article title is shite.

Well, I'm glad this means that they're literally going to rebuild the party. It's definitely needed. Good luck, Dems.

Hope he's taking a good look at what a Republican controlled government looks like with a fractured GOP. Naw, wait, he can't see beyond this petty fight for the real left.

To some degree, that's completely normal. EVERY staffer would be very strange though, so I assume that's an embellishment.

Wasn't McCaskill the Senator that got in because of legitimate rape candidate Todd Akin?

Why you'd fucking look that gift horse in the mouth is beyond me.

Why do the Justice Democrats sound more fired up about primarying sitting Democratic politicians than they do about potentially unseating Republicans with progressives?

I still think it's kind of amazing how someone like her can be a mouthpiece for dictators, be very conservative for being in Hawaii, and can still be ignored by all these so-called progressive groups. Gabbard is somehow progressive, but someone like Tom Perez isn't, all because Gabbard endorsed Bernie Sanders. You would think even being considered by Trump for a cabinet position and being a right-wing darling would be disqualifying, but nope. She endorsed Bernie, the arbiter of all progressivism, so she's safe.

Cenk and all the incompetent, faux-progressives like him would be funny if they weren't so scary.

They don't actually care about ideology or party, they care about Bernie Sanders. They find a conservative or moderate Dem agreeing with them 80-90% of the time is less acceptable than a Republican who agrees with them 0% of the time.

Yeah, it's dumb.

We need the moderate Democrats. We can't replace Manchin.

This happens at the beginning of an episode of the West Wing entitled Arctic Radar. The whole cabinet is asked to resigned at the beginning of the president's second term.

I imagine this is the same thing

Bernie supporters aren't your fucking enemy.

We aren't republicans or members of the tea party. Many of us are also democrats, but for some reason so many of you guys want to keep driving us away.

Funny they say that and then turn around and start trying to primary conservative Democrats in red states. While ignoring people like Gabbard who is really conservative and in a safe blue state.

What's with the Gabbard purity tests?

Anyway good riddance. DNC has been a complete shitshow, even making Republicans organization efforts look good by comparison. Godspeed finding "progressives who get things done", party needs to realize pronto that Hillary Clinton/Tim Kaine/DWS can't be the way forward.

Harder to get another job when you have to tell them you got fired from your previous position.
Well first of all, you don't have to tell them you were fired.

Secondly everyone there would qualify for unemployment. Being asked to resign as a result of an organization wide changeup isn't the same as just quitting.

Fork 'em, Sparky!
Please, Perez, please focus on local campaigns. Winning back mayoral offices and state legislatures outside of the big city districts will give the Democratic party legitimacy again. Then, governorships and congress seats will be easier to win, thanks to aforementioned credibility, and then the presidency should never, ever be lost again to the GOP as long as they continue to be the platform of hatred, anti-intellectualism, and anti-progress.
