Shortest is 10 minutes, which is half a sitcom episode.I have my controller set to turn off if inactive for 5 min (or whatever the shortest time is) and that doesn't make Netflix pause.

lol, this drama.
The light doesn't bother me one bit, I actually like it.
But Sony should allow users to turn it off, since its apparently a life or death situation for some drama qu....people.
I don't have a problem with this.
2006 Sony is back!
The arrogance is creeping back in.
arrogance already resurfacing 2 months in...
Seems like Sony pre-launch and Sony post-launch are very different prospects, a little concerning really.
Don't do this Sony. This reeks of post PS2 arrogance.
Because their launch success has already gone to their head. Didn't take long for PS2-era mentality to creep back in.
This seems like a silly thing to take such a firm stance on. Just give us the option. We somehow survived without giant controller lights for decades.
lol all of that over a damn light.
I just want to understand why someone would like the light; I don't get that at all.

Light that can be kind. Light that can smell sweet. Light that can be soft.
Light that can be porcelain. Light that can be silent. Light that can speak.
Light that can hold many colors. Light that can be romantic. Light that can be harsh.
Light that can be cold. Light that can be warm. Light that can be dry.
I like it, because it looks awesome!I just want to understand why someone would like the light; I don't get that at all.

Pro arrogance..obviously!I just want to understand why someone would like the light; I don't get that at all.
Maybe those people didn't expect the light to be so bright?
Not hard at all. Both of my DS4s have been used heavily and look the same as the day I got them.
Light is used to:
1. tell if controller on. (ir wont work)
2. tel wich player the controller belongs to. (ir wont work)
3. give ambient light effects. (ir wont work)
4. tracking controller (ir is enough)
They should give option to turn it off.
that sounds like that "assing user to controller feature". Sounds inconvinient. Things are clearly yet to be fully thought out.
RoboPlato, the universal consensus of the world.
2 of my 4 controllers are fucked. 2 of the 2 controllers owned by my friend are fucked. Dozens and dozens of gaffers here have posted that its fucked.
Touchpad is actually pretty awesome when used well. It felt very natural and quick to switch between OWL abilities in Shadow Fall with it.Hopefully they wise up and release a Dualshock 4 2.0 without that useless light and touchpad.

How many news stories have been written because Yoshida says "no" to someone in twitter? Ha. Shows how much he's willing to answer from questions from fans, he's a good dude for that.
Disappointing. It's really bright too when watching Netflix/Prime with the lights off.

Turn the controller off?
You don't have a PS4 do you? When turning the controller off in Netflix the video pauses.
if you turn the controller off while watching Netflix it pauses the video
Really?
That's a bit of an oversight.
I'm with you completely here on the bolded. The extra sauce some are stirring up..that shit should be laughed at and mocked.I wish people would stop complaining about others who complain about the lightbar. It doesn't bother you, cool. It does bother some (plenty) and Sony should listen.
It doesn't really bother me either, like at all, but I still think it's bullshit to not allow people the option to turn it off because I can see how they may have a problem with it. It also seems like such a simple request to comply with that Sony look like dicks for always just dismissing it with a "No".
I take it back about it not bothering me. If they allowed it to turn off the battery life would jump.
For the Players.Yoshida addressed fans via Twitter after the exec was quizzed on the likelihood of a "future update" that may offer the ability to turn off the illuminated panel on the upper surface of the controller for games that make no use of it.
"No," replied Yoshida, in response to the question.
I think it's a cool little effect. I've never had a controller with a light on it that could change colors. I think it's neat in Killzone when it changes color to reflect your health, and I wish more games used it.I just want to understand why someone would like the light; I don't get that at all.
Turning off the LED really won't extend the operating time by anything significant. But I can understand people that want it off because they don't like the light or the reflection on the TV.
. It is the attitude Shu/Sony displays with such a blanket no. This is following their previous blanket no's that they put on their FAQ's and such, things like DLNA which did happen to bother more people and so they changed their stance. Weird that. As I am sure if everyone who was bothered enough by the light option could bug him and Sony about it everyday and eventually they would relent. Again, what do they lose out by doing it? Its up to the user and any game that wants to use that dumb feature. Btw, I got the camera and use the light happily in that context. This option is low down on my 'want' list, but it is still there and having a 'no' without any reasoning is pathetic communication on any companies part. Hell, I don't talk to my 3 year old that way.
