King Sejong

The tall statue in picture is Admiral Yi Sun Shin. I think King Sejong's statue is just out of the frame to the right.

It's great to see so many people out this weekend though. At the candlelight protest last Saturday I think there were only about 20,000 or so.

I wonder if Park Geun-Hye will actually resign. I hope the opposition can crush it in any future election, be it a snap election or the one planned for next year. The people of Korea who believe in democracy deserve to have their faith rewarded.

She will have to ask her friends advice first

Park Geun-Hye strikes me as the least likely president to resign. She's done by next election anyway - what I really want to see is a purge of all her cronies and corrupt old Saenuri dogs, lawmakers.

Her mistake was to be conned by the wrong con artist. If she was conned by the most popular one she would be ok.

Wait, aren't the South Koreans like our allies and stuff? How could such a shit show be allowed? That quote sounded ridiculous. How is this Choi fellow been allowed to do this? Unless it was all kept under the rug from the US but I find it hard to believe.

Lol, being an ally of the US does not mean South Korea is a US colony or something. SK is a sovereign country and they can have as many corrupt presidents as they please. ;)

Well deserved. She needs to resign.

I am going to be the one who say, what she did doesn't sound too bad to me to be honest.

Even the money connection doesn't sound too bad. It's about on the same level as the Clinton Foundation stuff.

I think 60% of the "anger" is politically motivated.

will she just sit it out?

Most probably. The conservatives are banking on Ban to be the next candidate after he steps down as UN general secretary.

They dont seem to have a solid alternative. And if she steps down and the left leaning party gets to power there will be investigations about the election fraud allegations and the current scandal. Maybe also about the former president lee and his shady dealings.the only solution for the consevatives is to prolong her reign until ban is ready to be the candidate

Also if anything the police will violently stop the protests like they have done in the past

The thing that seems to strange is that Park's defects and dependence on the Choi family seem to have been well-known. How could the people elect her??

yes, "look at the US right now" would be an acceptable reply. :-(

North Korea confirmed for best Korea yet again. Kim's approval rating never falls below 1000%

Jokes aside how the fuck did this dumbass even get elected?

Her mistake was to be conned by the wrong con artist. If she was conned by the most popular one she would be ok.

I don't think a President being puppeteered by a popular religion would look that much better.

Sidestepping democratic processes to power through your own projects, whims, money-grabbing schemes, and having it controlled by a private 3rd party? To the point where this supposedly affected handling of national disasters? How is that 'not too bad'

She's the daughter of an ex-president who campaigned on a platform of no-corruption.

It doesn't really matter who gets elected, they are all puppets of the ultra-rich. Whoever replaces her is going to be a puppet and the next one too.

All these are accusations. They only have evidence of the edited speech.

Park senior was never elected. He killed everybody who stood in his way.

Also its false to say that Kim Daejung or Roh Muhyeon were pawns of the ultra rich. They were just ineffective to fight the conglomerates

Yeah I understand, I thought we were closer to them especially as their are neighbors with NK and we want to keep them under control. I don't know much, i should stop posting on here until I become more knowledgeable! Well, this is unfortunate either way, changes need to be made to get the corrupt out.

Yeah, King Sejong is the golden/brass colored statue sitting on a throne on the north end of the street in front of Gyeongbokgung palace. I live about 20 minutes away from there.

Because old people are uninformed/misinformed and vote in bigger numbers. Kind of like America. Plenty of people were not happy when she was elected.

Why is Hollande that low anyway? I never understood. Four percent is not just low, it's abysmal. This woman is the puppet of a cult and she's more popular than Hollande.

Well to be fair, it's 4% favorable rating, not 96% unfavorable (there's like 20+% neutral). Not sure what Park Geun-hye's 5% refer to.
But several reasons: obviously on first, fear of terrorism and him not seeming able to handle the situation. Then him and his government bringing some pretty conservative laws (he's supposed to be a socialist). And then unemployment skyrocketing and purchasing power plummeting.
Not that all this is 100% his fault, but that how it goes when you're president, you get blamed for everything.

I may be missing some as I just moved back to France and didn't follow all that too closely the last decade.

Y'all, the gigolo designing her purses is just... Lmao. And then the media called them cheap looking. They didn't even know 💀💀💀

It's not just Seoul that's gathering either. My friend and I were in Jeonju last night (about 2 1/2 hours south) and there was a protest parade going on. We've also seen pictures/videos of protests in Daejeon and Gwangju.

Good riddance you crazy fucker.

Going by her track record she's not going to resign and is going to sit through this, and it's more advantageous to the liberal parties for her to stay there and be a laughingstock until the nex election, so they aren't strongly pushing for impeachment or resignment

Fractured liberal votes, liberal political apathy, misplaced nostalgia for our dear leader Park, people voting for her because she's a woman, conservative NK fear mongering etc.

According to Gallup the lowest ever approval is President Truman at 22% in early 1952.

Edit: Interesting to note, Truman also had one of the highest approvals ever at 87% just after Japan surrendered/WWII victory.
