Piers Morgan is a special case. He's Piers Morgan and he was fucking with his private life. No adult should be trying to resolve a professional dispute with a punch. The man gets paid shit loads of money for what he does and he can't even act like an adult. No doubt his fans will love it though.

Clarkson's a right-wing, increasingly daft, old oaf but he's not the same as a collective effort to systematically harass, abuse, and threat women in the gaming industry.
GG has no redeeming qualities other than the negative and opposing reaction to them by much of the public, media and devs. Though to even attribute any of that progress to anything they've done would be wrong.
Clarkson, all of his flaws considered, isn't solely a disgrace and can be recognised for other achievements.

I've always seen Clarkson as a bit of a shock jock. He's not concerned with political correctness and while he will lampoon others there is also some self depreciating humor added in.

I know that a lot of people love him but I think he's a massive twat. But I get by just fine by not watching, so whether he's on the air or not doesn't affect me at all.

This is actually part of his appeal though.

I notice some people are very binary in their way of thinking; everything has to be seen in terms of black and white, right and wrong, yes and no. Clarkson made a stereotypical joke that is politically incorrect--that is offensive and Clarkson is a racist. There is no nuance in their reasoning.

People that make these attacks on Clarkson never seem to acknowledge that Top Gear is one of the biggest shows in the world not just the UK. The idea that people around the world are so offended by Top Gear, is automatically refuted by the sheer size of the audience.

Everything they see as wrong with the show, is the very reason so many people watch it.

It seems that you guys wear your sexism/ageism/sizeism(Poor warick gets the brunt of this) on your sleeves. His comments come off as nationalism. In the same way that football fans disparage eachothers nations based on the stereotypes. Granted, football discussions can get heated, but I'm not talking about those.

Clarkson says things that are shocking to me as an American, but not as someone who knows how Europeans behave. And you're right about the demographics, the shows numbers tell a different story. And I do believe Women watch it more than men? Europeans seem more up front about things.

Hes made comments about how shitty americans are. Sometimes its funny, sometimes it isn't. But it doesn't make me consider him anything other than what seems to be pretty accepted in the environment. I understand how its offensive to lorry drives that he claims it must be hard work due to all the prostitutes they have to kill, but that still doesn't seem like he is genuinely apprehensive towards truck drivers.

Clarkson and Morgan have long hated each other. IIRC the punching incident occurred at the Press Awards after the newspaper Morgan edited published an article alleging Clarkson was having an affair. Coincidentally Morgan was also having an extra-marital affair at the time. (Not with Clarkson.)

They are a perfect trio that speaks to different personality types in people. Although, interested to see rating figures w/o him. I just think they have such a great bond, half the reason I watch is for their relationship. Then the car porn.

Doesn't Clarkson write the show? It would suffer without him...just like those offseason DVD's that only feature 1 or 2 of the Big 3; it's just not the same. Classic case of irreplaceable chemistry.

Looks like TG is off the the rest of the remaining season :(

Radio Times reports Clarkson threw a punch at a male producer during an altercation last week. The alleged fight was only reported to the BBC yesterday. There's no indication who the producer was at the moment, though that term is a wide umbrella on Top Gear.

In addition, while the BBC already confirmed this Sunday's episode has been postponed, Radio Times has learned the remaining two episodes of the season will also be postponed until an investigation into the matter is completed.

Clarkson, Hammond and May should do some 60 minute YouTube videos/live streams to fill in on Sundays, it could be about car or just the 3 of them talking absolute bollocks and I'd still watch :p.

Well, it's nationalism in the sense that the British are very disparaging of themselves. The shows where there is a strong sense of nationalism, it is more in the context of "We're better than you think". There is also a lot of self-deprecating humour in the show.

So they make stereotypical jokes. Now I am not saying all the jokes on the show were not in bad taste--Richard Hammond's joke on mexicans wasn't really that funny--but I wouldn't conflate stereotypical jokes with racism.

It's not like other countries don't do the same. There are a lot of stereotypical jokes in the Simpsons for instance. However, a lot of people don't even think about it because they're not directly aimed at them.

If Clarkson was to say this on Top Gear, he would be criticised for it.
