Nothing is getting swept under the carpet ffs. She stalled the car, the anti-still kicked in and she crashed the car in the wrong place. It's an accident, it happens.

Blaming this one one person is fucking ridiculous and not going to solve anything.

That's how I feel about my injury, why target one person? It was an accident and shit happens and life catches you offside.

What the FIA should ensure is that these straight line tests are mandated as thoroughly as the circuits themselves to prevent tragedies from happening, but this just seems beyond any regulations that could have made a difference.

Its not about policing the tests. My point is, was it the right call to allow such teams to be in F1? F1 would've done well without the introduction of those new 3 teams that Max have shoved into the sport just to get back at Ferrari

Yeah, the same thing could have happened at a racetrack in the pitlane. Imagine an out of control car with all the mechanics around.

Caterham have done a decent enough job and seem the most professional of the three outfits, the others... well they haven't showered themselves with glory and just seem to be surviving at the moment but every team has to start somewhere and the 'privateers' have contributed greatly to the sport throughout its history. Whether Marussia and HRT reach that calibre is anyone's guess, but they shouldn't be denied the right to compete just yet.

MJ it was an accident. By all accounts she dropped the clutch without shifting to neutral and the anti-stall accelerated her into the truck. Her mistake combined with really unlucky positioning (the truck being where it was with the lift gate extended) could have happened to any inexperienced driver. These cars are dangerous and no amount of rules/regulations/charges/fines are going to change that fact.

Well this thread transcended into craziness and I wasn't even a part of it, I'm impressed.

Awful accident, I still fail to see why the truck and car were anywhere near each other, or why the truck lift was even open.

MJERK is going to have a drool session at Kimi's helmet. I wonder if they'll be one offs, 50/50 or just the logo added to the top?

Before jumping the guns...

You know what that means, right? Because it's not what you've spent this page doing.

Given the implications I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear for some time what definitively caused the accident, although it certainly seems likely that it was anti-stall related.

This weekend certainly won't be fun for anyone in the team, if they decide to run that is. Although not running would likely be seen as an acceptance of culpability, so I expect it will be business as usual.

This could have happened to any team. All teams use trucks. All teams can do straight line speed tests like this. Blaming it on Marussia because they are a small team is silly IMO.

Any liability would arise under UK Employment Laws; employer's liability, negligence, a standard duty of care, safe work place for example. Not my area of expertise though as I specialise in another area of law, so my insight is from what I remember of my degree years.

I wouldn't advocate legal action though, not until all the evidence is at hand. But Maria, her family and her lawyer(s) may feel the need to.
The HSE is investigating the accident too.

I strongly suggest that we wait until a full investigation takes place and all the details become known before making judgements about who's responsible for this.

Or good driver in cars, which are 0,5-1 second faster than the rest. Somehow he wasn't any special in junior formulae, when his competitors like Hamilton, Sutil, di Grassi or di Resta, all had cars in the same spec.
And Pete Sampras was an average junior and Tom Brady was a 6th round draft pick.

Besides, Vettel is 2 years younger than Hamilton, which makes a big difference as a junior. Also, I believe when, for example, Schumacher was winning junior championships, Vettel was already in F1 by the same age.

Please, let's change topics. We weren't even there and it's all finger pointing and hearsay. In the meantime I uploaded 4 interviews from Vettel, Webber, Horner & Newey filmed at Goodwood from Red Bull.

Red Bull F1 interviews

I'm hoping that Vettel's (amazing) pace in hot Valencia doesn't translate in the wet & cool of Silverstone...

And Pete Sampras was an average junior[...]

Damn, I didn't know that. I will always remember his 5 straight Aces against Agassi where they both laughed and his "marathon" battle against Chang (?).

Yeah, back to this weekend's race and its looking like a massive wash-out for Friday. Not going to be much use for the teams with big upgrades to evaluate and tune them in.

Got to be BBC. This is their home race and will be putting on a massive showing.

Thank God though Sky have listened to reason though and are having Alan McNish back for this weekend. He was excellent 2 weeks ago.

Now if only they'd sort out some of rest of the presenting team (I'm looking at you Simon Lazenby & Damon Hill)

I'd try to get Villeneuve on more often as well. His insight was very good especially for someone out of the sport for so long.

They also need to stop changing their lineup. Stick with the same ones and build up a bit of chemistry, too much awkwardness on the sky team.

Yeah, the chemistry of the BBC team is what really makes the show on top of the great production values and the forum and this:

BBC season so far review.

They know what's up.
Best driver?

Gary Anderson: "Fernando Alonso. This year has confirmed his talent at being able to grab a situation that would be out of most drivers' reach and bring home a result that the car does not deserve."

Ben Edwards: "Alonso. Both of his wins in Malaysia and Valencia have depended on talent, skill, judgement and self-discipline. Brilliant."

James Allen: "No doubt about this one. It has to be Alonso. He's leading the championship in a car that has no right to be there. It's getting better, but at the start of the year no-one would have given you tuppence for his chances of leading at this stage. He's really raised his game this year."

Jake Humphrey: "No question. Alonso. The only thing I'm unsure about with Fernando is whether he's the best currently, or the best ever. He is aggressive, smart, brave and incredibly consistent. The other 23 on the grid could all learn something from him."

Jennie Gow: "I never expected to say this but again, Fernando Alonso. I thought his drive in Malaysia (where he won) was a lot to do with luck and good fortune but actually, having seen him win in Valencia he is the most skilful driver I think I have ever seen with my own eyes on a track."

Absolutely awful news to hear she's lost an eye, but it could've been much worse.

Also Alonso is a superb driver, but the car (in my opinion) is practically up there with the others now.

He's certainly been the best driver this year though, with Hamilton closely following behind.

Terrible news, but she's alive and has her whole life ahead of her. So we can take solace from that, but if Alex Zanardi has taught us something, it's that the passion for racing can still drive a person to excel. I hope she can continue to do what she loves.
Pretty much this. Perhaps she can even have a role in the future on the safety administration/implementation side of things. Who knows?

I haven't been in the loop as far as news goes for the past few days, but I'm still shocked at how quickly things can go wrong in F1, in this day and age. Hopefully de Villota is able to make a full recovery.

And I'm sorry to hear the passing of your mother, Psychotext.

Yeah, I think you're right. Especially that if it was her fault. Maybe new drivers should pass a certain type of test to try to minimize the potential of unnecessary accidents. I think my hate to the small teams, especially Marussia and HRT made me say that. Its just very sad news.

Changing topics! Lotus F1 team becomes even cooler! Can't wait to see the helmets!

I really can't wait to see those helmets! But I doubt anything can top Monaco's James Hunt
