The Last of Us Remastered has gone gold!

I'll link HyperBitHero's video. His explanation mirrors my own.

HyperBitHero? You mean the guy that, in the first two minutes of his Left Behind video, misses the point of the DLC completely saying it doesn't meaningfully connect to the main story when it's almost spelled out for you in bright, neon-lit letter how it does? Yeah, I don't listen to him.

What would you say has more praise leaning towards: Gameplay or Story?

What about the whole package?

Jesus... What's going on in this thread?

Anyway... I'm ready for this game. Just put it out at 1080p and 60fps and I'm buying it. I don't need to see it as I already played through the 1st 3rd of the game on the ps3 and it was great but the horrid IQ got to me too much.

It's funny how my perceptions have changed over the past few months. When I played Left Behind in February I thought that it held up quite well compared to most next gen titles but then a couple weeks ago when I finally finished my Survivor+ run (the last 45 minutes of the game) it definitely was looking dated. That said, the up to 1080/60 and some upresing of assets and improved AA will make this game look fairly up to date.

Seeing the courthouse and underground subway area not run at 15 frames a second sure will be great...

So true.

Because the story is so bright the gameplay is not dull.

Story = Amazing

Gameplay = Good

But because the story is in a higher level of quality, the gameplay gets slated because whilst good, its not on the same level. Despite performing better than other game's in the same genre with poorer stories.

Tomb Raider has an average story with good gameplay = Good game.

Last of Us has an amazing story with good gameplay = Gameplay is average

The perception is ridiculous.

I think that area really does stand out as the worst performing in the entire game. Though I'm really looking forward to seeing the woods in the area around Tommy's Dam with anti-aliasing around the trees.

What? People really want to make Ellie visible? Do you know how terrible that'll make the game!?

Gamers hate escort missions. That'll make most of the game into a frustrating escort mission that defeats the purpose of sneaking around.

Oh I bought it at launch and thought that. I lasted just 2 days with it before it got to me too much. I've been a PC gamer primarily over the last 2/3 years. All that downsampling has spoilt me. For that reason I'll welcome all the Sony exclusive HD remastered on the PS4 we can get. IQ makes a huge difference to the gaming experience for me. I can't stand the sight of jaggies and shimmering.

I can't play 90% of games I have for the ps3 for this reason. What I'd do for a hd remaster or PC release of Nier.

When you get used to 1080p (or 60gps) is harder to go back and you start to see issues where you didn't see before.

That is why I don't understand when I says something like "I can't deal with sub 1080p anymore" and somebody reply "how do you survived the previous gens?" lol because it was previous gens and I didn't meet better things at that time.

I'm yet hoping my dreams for this generation comes true... at least my favorite series are holding 1080p and 60fps.

Haha, jesus. Now I see why people are so cranky in the other TLOU thread.

I'm not sure you could get more off topic than some of these troll rants.

I took issue with the fact that it was simply more of what I was already overfed with last gen with a few horror constraints placed here and there. It doesn't do anything bad per se, it just doesn't do anything good, either. It lacks programming polish relative to its production values, and also comes packaged with all the oft-highlighted bugs. The star of the show was the story, voice acting and mocapping, and the story I felt was generic and cliché.

I'm not an authority, I wouldn't worry.

He's not "worrying"; he's asking you to stand by your assertions. Something that you are gracefully trying to backpedal from, but clearly failing to.

I'm surprised after your assertive previous posts that, when pressed, your response is this vague, limp sputter of complaints.

I don't mind 30fps and sub-1080 is tolerable for me but it definitely gets more noticeable. I just played through Dragon Age Origins on PS3. Yikes that game looked and ran rough. Still loved it though.

You see, gameplay comes first, not realism or the story. So we don't get why The Last Of Us was so well received.

At the same time, why can't the AI companions be spotted? It's so unrealistic.

That kinda remembered me one of the best games so played in my life: ICO ;)

People getting excited over a last-gen port of a year-old game shows just how few good games are out on PS4/XB1.
The game is really really good... it is not considered for most the game of the generation for nothing.

It more goes to show how good this particular game is. I've been in a mood to replay it lately and I'm putting it off until the Remaster is out. It'll be even more exciting to see all of the improvements too.

There wasn't a dozen 20+ page threads about Tomb Raider definitive edition. This is one of the most revered games in the last ten years, of course there is excitement.

Even if it was released next year with the amazing 2015 lineup, I'd still be excited. It's a testament to how good the game is and whether you believe it or not, many people (like myself) can be excited for one thing while also being excited for a bunch of other games.

Looking forward to this doesn't automatically negate all the other great stuff coming this year.

So you don't get repeatedly screwed over in the campaign by stupid A.Is of course, especially in Survivor mode.

When people say The Last of Us has no "gameplay", or a limited amount of it, I always have an innate feeling of disbelief. As if we've played or seen two completely different games or something.

I can say that The Last of Us is most probably my Game of the (last) Generation, and the reasons for that revolve around the game as an entire package, with special focus on it's gameplay, and not just the other quality aspects of it.

It's not just the beautifully written characters, world, narrative and score that make the game impressive. Those things alone are not enough for the game to soar to such acclaim, not for a game released so late in the generation. Instead it relies on the quality of it's actual gameplay to give the rest the foundations to blossom.

The fantastic, visceral combat, with it's beautifully animated sense of weight and kill satisfaction. The dynamic upgrade system and inventory, that is highly rewarding and also adds a sense of tension and immediacy to decisions. The excellent combat scenario's that offer an entertaining multitude of potential advances, from pure stealth, to all out carnage, to diverse tactical consideration. The pacing throughout, which constantly balances areas of tension and intensity, with calm, serenity, exploration and beauty, and then carefully chooses when to throw you back in to an emotionally engaging fray all over again. The excellent enemy AI, that is tweaked to be intelligent enough to be challenging to fight against, but not too realistic that it's game breaking or un-fun. The addition of the different alternate enemy types, clickers, runners etc, that offer gameplay differentiating, often scary and aggressive alternatives, and so on and so on.

It's just sublime in nearly every sense of the word (imo). A truly ground breaking achievement, more so given it's not even particularly innovative or new, just immensely refined and supremely satisfying.

This 'Last of Us has no gameplay' narrative, is to me, utterly absurd, and going back to my first point, I honestly do wonder if those who say such baffling things have actually played the same game I have.

Only played it on normal when it came out and never tried the dlc or online. Can't wait to get back in. Ended up gifting my ps3 copy to a friend.

I'm still wondering how could a thread about the game going gold turn out like this?

As someone watching from the side for some weeks now, I would say recently especially, there has been a tremendous surge in some to try and paint an especially negative narrative towards cinematic games, and correlate cinematic games with having no gameplay. Most realise the latter is an absolute fallacy, but many posters have been trying to paint this false narrative none-the-less.

This notion that you can now get away with just watching a game on YouTube to fairly experience it, has gained popularity, referring to mainly third person shooters no less, that are requiring of skill and tactical consideration. The justification being that because the game is cinematic and may have some rare use of QTE's, it is therefore immediately devoid of actual gameplay.

Tell me, in the next 2 months, what games worth being excited of, are being released on PS3 or 360?

Amen to that brother, TLOU is the perfect demonstration that a game can have both amazing gameplay and story.

And if the single player doesn´t convince you gameplay wise, the multiplayer is a great alternative to see how the mechanics truly shine.

Judging by this thread, TLOU is a shit game with shit gameplay that no one should ever play, all the reviews are wrong, we were all deceived into thinking this was a 10/10 game.

I'm going to bed, the negativity in this place is tiring.

I can't wait to play the multiplayer on PS4.

Yes, this game has great gameplay. It's not because the story, music and such are 10/10 that the gameplay can't be a 9/10.

I could wait a few more months to play the single player again, but yep.

The reason I'm in day one again is for the glorious multiplayer.

The line has been drawn in the sand, folks. Are you a fan of 'gaming' as a flexible, interactive storytelling medium? Or are you a gamer - one of those who relishes a traditional approach to moving games forward via mechanics and ideas? Choose wisely.

Sorry if this has been answered previously in the thread, but do we know if TLOU's 60FPS is actually sixty or the more-like-forty-and-change that gets paraded around as 60 these days? I know Corrinne Yu was tweeting about trying to get the framerate over 60, but have we heard anything since then?
