They should just do a lame ad like "Japan's version of GTA" now coming to the US. Show some graphics which are good and some gameplay and they might even sell a few copies. It won't happen though.

they should just change the title to Sonic's Tokyo Adventures for the NA version and it will sell like hot cakes .

god fucking damnit then. time to learn japanese, see you in 2020.

or just wait for ThePatrick and his Walkthrough/guide

I wonder if it is the same demo that I played at the signing/playtest.

I hope so as I didn't get to do part of it. I saw some other guy doing a fight against CIA agents and shit. :D

The person that's been streaming Star Ocean 4 all day/night randomly switched over to playing Yakuza 3.

http://zh-tw.justin.tv/esegk

Not sure how long he'll be playing, but thought I'd share.

Edit: Well shit. Right after I posted that I go back and look and he's gone back to SO4. Nevermind.

yah i think its the same demo.. i got convinced to goto ageha for abit to check out the new girls. thought i can wander abit more but then the rest of the story event kicked in outside milennium tower and the evil white ppl that dont speak nihongo tried to roll me.
then it ends >< gonna replay it more tomorrow, im sure theres more to it.
the keitai mail mentioned something about the karaoke but just couldnt be bothered.

Posted my thoughts in the PSN thread, pasted here:

Yakuza 3 demo is pretty cool. I don't understand much of what's going on (just words here and there lol) but the gameplay is fairly easy to pick up and play.

As for the graphics, I have to admit I'm a little underwhelmed. The character models look great, the environments as well sometimes, but the main culprit is the aliasing (which is something that rarely bothers me). I remember seeing screens previously that looked much sharper, so that is why I'm a bit underwhelmed, visually.

But yeah, currently sitting down and having a conversation with an escort, it seems. Keep losing hearts no0o0o
lmao

Argh, hate to sound like a broken record but this needs to come out in the US. I'm completely engrossed into the first Yakuza, and have Yakuza 2 on my shelf to follow it.

If my backlog wasn't abolutely gagged I'd totally be after the first two games. The other Ryu ga Gotoku (the one set in past) isn't coming out here is it? I wonder what the prospects for this title are?

Look absolutely beautiful though.

Is that a decal to put on the PS3? Man Korea got ripped off...

so the japanese one actually has it on the PS3 but korea gets a decal only? i was confused about that pic.

Yes, Japan got the actual RGG3 PS3. S.Korea just got the decal to put on a white PS3.

If they can somehow get their hands on the other dragon and make a decal out of it.....no one will know the difference! >.> :lol

Demo was short but sweet. Loved dishing out the beat down on the mysterious dudes in black. Can't wait for the final game. My copy probably won't show up until the week after though. :(

They are CIA, they are fairly easy compared to the first fight in the club.

I am definitely not happy with Sega's attitude concerning the possibility of this game in the US at all :( I did not think I'd enjoy the first one at all, or very little but I liked it a great deal. That was one of the most pleasant gaming surprises the year it came out. That is probably one of only a few games in a long while that when I was done I wanted the sequel right then. I did my part and bought the 2nd one, in fact I got it the day it came out. I know how well a game does is kind of on an area by area basis but around me I was under the impression it was selling fantastic! A lot of places here were either sold out of it or very close to it. That still seems to be the case lately, so their attitude is upsetting.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with voicing your disappointment here but I think two things would be much more effective at this point. The MOST effective way would be to buy Yakuza 2 if you haven't already. Please please support it. There aren't many games that deserve this kind of support but this series does it's very very well done. If you DO already have it try to get hold of a 2nd or 3rd copy. It's not very expensive at all. either keep it sealed in your collection or give it to someone who might enjoy it that hasn't yet played a Yakuza game. This way, the extra sales might get Sega to change their mind and if you give it to someone who might enjoy it that gets more people interested in the series and they might recommend it to friends and so on.

The other way to make a difference and possibly get them to change their attitude is to write Sega, and Sony and let them both know the fanbase for this series exists here and it would be worthwhile to bring it over. I fully intend to do just that because that attitude they're taking is ridiculous :(

Ya know Sega could either release it in VERY limited numbers to stores, online or just online and emphasize it's very limited quantities and that way all of us that want it can have it and support it. Or better yet Sony could buy the distribution rights and localize it. That wouldn't cost a terrible lot of money at all. I just hope it makes it over some way some how.

I'll wait a little bit and hold on to a small hope they change their mind. If not I'll import it.

I thought Sega released Yakuza 2 because they were planning on translating Yakuza 3. Did Yakuza 2 bomb even more than Yakuza 1? :lol

yea, Yakuza 2 bombed pretty badly outside Japan.

It came out at a horrible time, though.

Seriously, Fall 2008? Do you have any idea how many other games (for next-gen consoles, no less) came out in that timeframe?
I had no idea Yakuza 2 came out in the US until a month ago, and still haven't gotten the chance to pick it up (but I definitely will).

If it wasn't for that I'm sure it would've done at least as "good" as the first...

That was awesome. I thought the CIA guys were going to kill me but I was able to take them out :lol Also, karaoke is amazing.

Like one of the guys above, the enviroment underwhelmed me compared to the screenshots I've been seeing, but it's understandable being a semi-open world.

Very fun, loved using the weapons, playing the arcade (the shooter game looked cool), and chatting up hostesses. :)

I realize I'll never be able to import this, too much text, way too much.

Yeah, I'm just stuck on the now loading screen :( Gonna try a reboot.

edit: wow. it loaded before the entire word "loading" even appeared. Excellent. Don't know why it froze up the first time :(

demo pretty much unsold me on the game. i can see how it's fun but it doesn't seem like the type of game that would really keep me interested. it's more expensive than the average next gen game price here too.

graphics are very average. open world or not it looks a few steps below gta iv for example.

might have to go with demon's souls instead, the more i see of it the more interested i am.

I want to slap you so hard.

If you had EVER played any of the previous Yakuza games and LIKED them, you wouldn't be saying ANY of that.

This isn't an "OPEN WORLD GTA IV-LIKE GAME"

The timing was disastrous. The game was almost two years old when it was released in the US and Europe. The audience for a game like this had already switched to the PS360. You can't expect to sell large numbers of a previous gen hardcore game when next gen consoles are celebrating their third or second year on the market.

Oh, and I'd just like to note the "Boxolicious" mini game at the Sega Arcade place looks freaking awesome. Interesting that its a schmup with a time attack design.

slap away dude, seems you jumped the gun a bit though.

the comparison i was making was graphics only and even then only because some other poster was giving this games average graphics a free ticket because in their words the game is "semi-open world".

seems like a copout to me, i'd like to see a spade being called a spade. in other words this games graphics are average.

The demo was pretty shitty. I don't think it enjoyed it at all. Which.... is how I felt about the Kenzan demos too. I don't really think the series lends itself well to demos at all, and I don't know why I keep downloading them even though I preorder the games in advance. Force of habit I guess. I suggest anyone else who's actually getting the game next week to just skip the demo, it's a waste of time. :/

I just finished the demo, lovely.

First when you start the game, you get an sms with tutorial about what's available in the demo. Besides the main story, there is the hostess club, karaoke bar and arcade center to go to. I only tried the hostess mini-game. OMG, that girl talks so much @_@ Blah blah, I used to be a different girl, blah blah, I want to open a shop with cute merchandise for girls, blah. It seems she knows about Kiryu for a long time. Bitch, it was so expensive just to talk with her!

The graphics are gorgeous, though the menu interface is pretty much identical to Kenzan. Not a bad thing, since that is slick too. The voice acting is top-notch. I don't think I have seen much better.

Also, you can learn new special moves by observing people with L3 button. You can unlock 2 in the demo. I got 1 where this girl suddenly kicks a guys ass for harassing her XD

Then the gameplay, what can I say? It's very good. Af first I was buttenbashing my way through, but then learned the finer details.

i was expecting the demo to be underwhelming since the previous games are so large and there's so much to do. there's no way they can fit all that stuff into a demo.
