True System Sellers. What systems have you bought for ONE game?

The only thing I can think of is the Super Nintendo for Super Mario World. But I was six at the time and I wanted the SNES itself more, and SMW was packed in. I guess it still counts though.

PS1 - WWF Smackdown
PS2 - WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It
GC - Super Smash Bros Melee
XBOX - Halo

As far as PS3/Wii/360, there wasn't really a system seller for me, I just wanted the consoles.

Dreamcast for SF3 3rd Strike
Xbox for Steel Batallion
PS2 for DVD playback
GameCube for Resident Evil REmake
DS for Kirby Canvas Curse
Xbox 360 to Jump In day one
Wii for Mariokart Wii (sold it 6 months later for Bluray Player)
Nintendo 64 for Mariokart 64
Super Nintendo for Mariokart

My PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4, and then it kept getting fucking delayed. :( There were seriously no other games on the console that interested me at that time (which weren't on my 360, anyway) but I had to get one as soon as the MGS4 hype started to ramp up.

But then I discovered Uncharted and all was good. My purchase justified. :D

Nothing. A system needs a decent library before I'll consider a purchase. The closest thing I've done would be buying any Nintendo system for the Nintendo games.
I'm going to go with this.

Well, I own a tonne of consoles, and became a collector in the earlier part of this decade, but growing up there was only one game that made me buy a console I didn't originally want, as I was a hardcore Segabot.

This game has made me the gamer I am today, and opened my eyes to the glory of multi-console ownership...

that title is...

Mario Kart 64

Once I played it, I HAD to own a 64. Up until then, I had only owned Sega consoles, and had a Saturn at the time. I sold my Saturn (bought another one later on) and bought a 64. It made me realise how great multiplayer gaming could be, and made me realise owning octher consoles aside from just one meant I would never again miss out on amazing titles on other platforms.

Bought the PS2 on launch in 2000, knowing Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2 were coming in the future

The first console I actually bought for myself was a PS1, for FFVIII. I went into the store and bought a brand new playstation, and a memory card, then asked for a copy of FFVIII. The guy was like "Uhh, this game isn't actually supposed to be released until tomorrow." But since I'd just bought a console specifically to play it, and didn't have any other games with it, he let me take it anyway. Nice chap.

For the systems I remember not getting at launch recently, these were the games that set off the "buy" impulse:

PSP - Loco Roco
DS - Nintendogs
Playstation 3 - Motorstorm, Blu Ray capability, backwards compatibility (imported a US launch system in March 2007)

PSX - FFVII
(even though I played the PC version the summer before)

If my ex hadn't already had a PS2, I would have bought it explicitly for FFX.

Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64
PlayStation - MegaMan X4
Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure
Xbox - Halo: Combat Evolved
Gameboy Color - Pokemon Blue
GameCube - Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (no joke)

All of my other system purchases were due to multiple games or expecting sequels to existing titles.
