Can only the second race of aliens understand this sentence?

Whoa, holy shit just read some of the comments... more comedy gold!

Oh man, some of these comments are really killing me... wonder if I should post them in this thread or if Jeff and Garnett will be upset...

Andrea saying that from dust was just announced for PSN and PC got me a bit peeved. It was for both PSN and XBLA from the start, but is now timed exclusive to XBLA in the summer of arcade. :)

Thats why i stopped listening, just head-slappingly embarassing and forced. 1UP Yours thrived because there was no radio-style conversation-control, just guys talking about whatever the hell they wanted. Its just a games podcast, not network sports radio.

I check the threads to see how its going, sad to see he hasn't yet realised why the show is failing now.
I don't get the impression that the show is failing at all. Let's be honest, the show's even more mainstream than the Giant Bombcast. And that's saying something. I'm pretty sure the number of listeners has only increased.

I'm not usually that bothered by Garnett's dick jokes (even though they're not really funny), but this episode... too much, too forced. :/ The dick joke-jar sounds like a good plan.
And Garnett, have you ever considered finding female guests other than Andrea?

lowrider007

Licorice-flavoured booze?
So this is the best female we can get then?, some bint that believes in sexual equality but yet blatantly tries to popularize what she does by selling herself on her looks, yeah ok.

I think there's two kinds of misogyny. One kind prevented women from leading an independent (sex) life, from voting, attending universities etc. The other kind helped to overcome the impediments that stood between women and their new way of life. Once they found out that these same women can be just as unremarkable and even nasty as their male counterparts, however, they began to hate.

Three kinds, if you count the horseshit in this thread.

Absolutely, positively agree with you guys that there is all sorts of room for improvement here, but the only peeps making a big deal about gender are you guys...and to be honest, it's pretty fucking creepy.

Garnett is like lemon in those youtube vids were baby's pull faces after trying it.
The enjoyment comes from how people react to him, his awful 50 year old frat-boy persona is anoying but its always funny to hear someone rip into him for it.

She's shit and a woman, people are talking about both. Look to Jenn Frank for aninsitful and engaging podcast contributor (retronauts)

Andrea dislike has nothing to do with her being a woman, and everything to do with her contributing nothing entertaining or informative to the show in the multiple times I've heard her on it.

Jeff should of gone on that harder, would of been entertaining.

Yeah it's extra dumb considering that not 5 minutes later Garnett does a complete 180 and says he can't play any new games because he'd rather play Trenched.

Pretty much. I occasionally subject my wife to this podcast on long car rides, and she dislikes Andrea even more than I do.

Her low point in this episode I would say was when Garnett and Jeff were having what I thought was an interesting and well thought out discussion of FF13 and she interrupted with "HEY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN'T LIKE FINAL FANTASY?" Very obnoxious. It was almost like she wasn't being paid enough attention and she had to act out.

If we're doing the "women on podcasts I like so as to not appear misogynistic" thing, I also like Hiriko on 8-4 Play quite a bit. She's funny and has interesting comments, and she's not an attention seeker.

Ultimately though I know our complaints will be in vain. It's Garnett's show and he obviously likes her a lot.

Kat Bailey on Roleplayer's Realm is basically the best person you can reference here, she ends up being the sagest on the podcast. Aside from her, there isn't any other girl I'd care to listen to talk about videogames(I can't recall the last time Hiriko from 8-4 talked about a videogame per say. Think it was when she fell asleep while installing Monster Hunter.). Call that misogynistic if you want lol.

Does she talk more now? Because when I used to listen to 8-4 you'd swear she was a ghost. Like you'd hear a single word from her and thats it.

I only started with gaming podcasts about 3 years or so ago. The most knowledgeable woman I've heard was Kat Bailey on retronauts.

I've got no problem with Andrea but the show still needs some a bit of bite to it. I've come to really like Xav, Plan B, Other Jeff, and even Christian. Still, I can't help but feel the show was at its best with Leahy.

I don't get why so many are hard on Adrea. She sounds pretty knowledgeable to me and I honestly think some of you just cant see past her being a woman and I say that because hearing her views is on the podcast is not that drastically different from other guests that have been on the show. Other guests like whats his name with the adolescent voice that compared Halo Reach to Golden Eye and has to remind us he doesn't think Red Dead is that good or Billy that seems to only enjoy WOW and Nintendo games views I think have been way more skewed. Moreover I think she is one the most honest ones with her views.

I think you've been hypnotized by her leg porn...
Try actually listening to a podcast...

I really don't think "Andrea iz a gurl" is a valid complaint, and it is a bit silly IMO.

If there is any complaint, it is just that this podcast does not match up too well with her main job - as part of ClevverTV. It is a teen originated YouTube channel, that offers bitesize videos on large range of gaming news. It seems like a channel that is there to inform its subscribers of what is happening.

Weekend Confirmed, on the other hand, seems like it targets the 20+ year old market. It covers fewer items, but goes in-depth on the ones it does covers. It's a show that accepts it audience knows much of the industry details already, so it is there to discuss what happen, not to inform people that it happened.

Those two are polar opposites, and it would be hard for anyone, male or female, to jump between those two mindsets, so she arguably does a good job most of the times she appears on the podcast. I do agree that this week, she threw in a a few unneeded jabs, taking potshots at stuff she knew nothing about, instead of trying to talk about the stuff she did know about - which work fine - at least for me - on her other apparences

Jeff, on the other hand, mainly works on TRS, which is 15+ minutes on 5 subjects each week. It is close to the same format as Weekend Confirmed - broken into 5 chunks - so it would be easier to adapt.

I think even the people who didn't contribute constructively helped bring home that the podcast's drifting. In the summer, if no one's going to play weird stuff to mix in with the interesting, less-marketed games, then Garnett or someone ought to step up and come up with a theme, topic, or video game that can give a throughline to discussion. I know that can't happen next week, but maybe he could spend an extra hour thinking about something that could provide forward momentum 2 weeks from now.

Jade Kraus has a different job now (although she does a Japan-middlebrow-entertainment podcast for fun) and she was absolutely excellent. Nadia Oxford should get a more visible job writing/broadcasting. Jenn Frank had her head in the clouds, to her detriment, but she was fun.

Personally I've really warmed up to him.

Not me, I hate the fact that he calls himself a comedian yet he's not funny at all. And that every youtube video of him is described as "a funny guy" this or "a funny guy" that. I'd be ok with it if he just said something like "yeah, I'm trying to work on my act and it's ok right now but it's getting better". Instead he seems to act like he's a seasoned comedy genius.

I like him best when he's not going out of his way to be funny and lets it come natural-like.

Disappointed in the episode... this is the second time I've been less than thrilled with Andrea Rene, primarily because not once did I hear her add anything to the discussion that wasn't either blatantly obvious or... and this was worse, factually wrong. She misinterpreted several statements that caused issues and when asked to defend Transformers, she didn't actually defend it. She had no actual points of depth to speak of, just "I liked it" basically and a list of characters in the game. As for the Final Fantasy comments, it's fine not to like FF, but again, there was no substance to actually back her opinion up and explain it to the audience. There are tons of brilliant female game journalists, but in my opinion, Andrea isn't one of them. Perhaps that's unfair... it would be more accurate to say I have been left less than impressed with her work on the WC podcast.

I am one of those who believes the show's quality has dropped since Leahy left, because his dissent and even the arrogance that he exuded at times was in stark contrast to the rest of the show. So much pure agreement and gushing hurts the objectivity that can be found elsewhere. Too much negativity is a problem, but the best WC I've heard in many months was the post E3 edition with Shane and John where objectivity and even skepticism reigned in a more complete sense. I think Cannata is a talented and passionate guy, but he slips far too often into what I call "bubblegum" journalism, in which everything is the greatest ever and the critiques are harder and harder to spot. To further clarify, listen to Jon Gruden and Jaws do ESPN Monday Night Football telecasts and just how often you could see them having to take their ties off or maybe even remove their pants while talking about virtually EVERY player on the football field.

In the words of one of my heroes, Dennis Miller, "of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

These are a group of people who happen to like each other quite a bit. We are friends. And we are enjoying seeing one another (the one time per week we do) and having a good time. And that's what is important, right?

I think the answer to that question depends on whether you're the one recording the podcast or the one listening :)

Uhh, no. Andrea never sounds really knowledgable to me. In fact a lot of the time she reminds me of a typical 'dudebro', except that she also likes casual games.

She also never really adds anything to the discussion and never backs anything up. Her bashing of FF went on way too long when all she should have said was that she didn't like JRPG's. Instead she went around in circles until they goaded her into admitting her dislike for the entire genre.

Again, not to pile on, but that's why quite a few have complained legitimately. If she's not going to treat her audience (that's us, not the people in the room) with more respect than a IGN Boards poster, it's hard for the audience to respect her more than it does an average G4 broadcaster (whom, I agree, she resembles).

Stuff like this is easily remedied, so I think it's fine to ask them to fix it. Come prepared. Geez. Any amateur would.

Hell yeah! Dan is the man!

I thought the show was good this week. I always look at these threads before I actually listen to the show and GAF always seems really negative on them, so I'm always pleasantly surprised about how good the show is. Yeah, Garnett can be annoying when he plays devils advocate too much, but he always does it for the sake of conversation (I am in favor of the dick joke jar though). And Jeff is the most pleasant person in the gaming industry. I love the positivity he brings to everything he does. He always seems genuinely excited, weather he's talking about movies, tv shows, or games (TRS and WC) he sticks out in the sea of pessimistic, jaded games journalists. I love the show, been listening since day one, keep it up guys!

If you feel like nitpicking the fuck out of what normally is the best gaming podcast around, maybe you should consider something else. That, or come maybe come to terms with the fact that just MAYBE they were off their game for one weekend. The very fact you've dissected every second of it is a good indicator it really ain't your cup o' joe.

Sorry, but I like the show. I know it usually is a lot better and I've written positive reviews in the respective threads as well. I don't think I've dissected anything. I just realized why I personally think the philosophical discussions don't pan out and talked about it once I got called out on my snide remarks.

Maybe knowledgeable was the wrong word to use but what I'm getting at is that she doesn't seem that out of place on the podcast in contrast to the other guests like that clownmedian that compared Halo to Golden Eye or even the regulars. These guys are really not having a deep intellectual conversation about the intricacies of games and gaming for the most part, especially when every other comment is a dick a joke. Jeff sometimes tries to elevate the podcast but for the most part they are never discussing anything that profound to make it seem like she is out of her league "typical 'dudebro'" or not.

Also Adrea if you are reading this thread please PM your phone number or email being that I'm the only one defending you.

I agree.

Eh, I like Andrea being on the show. I agree with others that it would be nice if she elaborates on her opinions more, but she seems comfortable with the guys and it sounds as if they like having her around and it creates a light, fun atmosphere. They all have pretty good chemistry. Plus she's not afraid to laugh at off color jokes, and doesn't appear to get offended at Garnetts double entendres (which need work).

Is there a subtle, underlying sexual tension caused by the mere fact that she's a good looking female? Most likely, but I like that, keeps things a little edgy and entertaining, and that's why I listen to podcasts first, entertainment. We have two guys, Jeff and Garnett, who are very knowledgeable, that's good enough. And quite simply I like to hear a female voice.

If anything, Garnett should take lessons from Jeff Canatta on how to flirt. First, he's a fairly funny guy and makes her laugh a lot, and as we know chicks dig that. And second he knows how to tease her. A good example is when he was ribbing her for her Final Fantasy dislike. Girls like to be teased. Of course it doesn't hurt that Jeff is good looking.

Do gamers who listen hold her to a stricter standard because she's a woman? Maybe. But let's not forget men are routinely skewered on this forum and treated with no mercy. They don't get a free pass either. Brian Leahy was mercilessly ran out of town, the poor guy lol.

Girls don't like white knights. They use you, say thanks and discard you for the nearest bad boy :D
