People are too afraid of being blackballed, you stop getting review copies, previews, etc. I think Sony has made some progress in being more open, we have learned a lot from Shu, but MS might as well be on the fucking moon with their messaging. They don't want you to know the negatives because you might buy whatever it is they are selling before the truth comes out. We must also remember that we are all insane, and the average person doesn't care about Ps or FPS unless they are told to care.

The industry grew to big, causing many new BS rules to be added to information control. Causing the dead of true gaming journalist/critics, although I still hold Edge high.

Journalism in this industry doesn't exist anymore.

Edit:
Also the constant bitching and nitpicking about every minor detail, no matter how small, has led to a tighter hold on information by companies in this industry. We the fans are partially to blame for the current state of it.

"We won't clarify anything that could affect your purchases but pay $499 anyway for a console and $60 each for the games, then visit our websites regularly and watch our videos, read our news and click on some ads. Thanks guys!"

Except for the part where a whole bunch of sites put up pieces questioning if there was any real value in these devices at launch?
