This thread hurts me. Fruity ciders urghhh.

OLD ROSIE
FARMHOUSE, PREFEABLY WITH DEAD SHEEP IN THE VAT

but seriously it is cool and interesting to see the variety. Much of what is listed here is totally different to what i love as cider, and that is cool.

Living in Boston, this is typically the cider of choice. Unfiltered, delicious goodness.

I like cider, but prefer beer
I put 1 sugar in my coffee
I prefer regular fries
I don't put pineapple on pizza

I must be a mystery to you.

Shit, I'm about to blow some minds too, I guess:

I like cider, beer, wine, and liquor.
I don't put sugar in my coffee at all.
I like both kinds of fries, depending on the situation.
I wouldn't touch a pineapple pizza.
Also, I'm a woman.

It's almost like... people have different tastes!

You lie! Women don't drink beer!

Some of my favorites: Fuller's ESB (though usually I have to pick up Goose Island Honker's Ale or something), Abita Purple Haze, Three Floyd's Gumballhead, Well's Banana Bread, New Glarus anything....

So you didn't lie about drinking beer. Then you must be lying about being a woman!

I am kidding of course! Beer is getting more and more popular among women in the Netherlands, simply because there is so much more to chose from these days, not just plain pilsener

I see a lot of love for all types of Beers, Stouts, Spirits and such

But no love for Cider (at least not since awhile)

I find myself being more of Cider drinker lately and I'm sure I'm not alone.

What do you like about it?
Dislike about it?
Favourite Cider brands?

Talk to me CiderGAF I'm scared
Love Strongbow Cider. No matter if Apple, Elderflower or Red Berries.

Definitely my favorite alcoholic beverage in summer.

Only downside is it is a tick too fizzy for my taste.

When I used to play WoW, I had a friend living in Wales who kept telling me about this cider she called "scrumpy" that still had bits of apple in it. I've always wanted to try it, but we looked into her sending me a few bottles and it was so damn complicated we just dropped it.

Scrumpy is a style, not a brand. It tends to be produced by farmers in relativly small amounts for local drinkers.

It's 6%+ abv going up to about 9% at most, tends to be flat, and absolutely goddamn amazing.

Real talk, I didn't get super into beer until I started being introduced to better beers, so I can understand this. Good beer is interesting, can be a great pairing, etc. Rando plain beer for the sake of beer is not worth my time or my calories.

Back in the UK I'd rarely drink Cider unless I was in the West Country, pubs around there do some great stuff, though it's often seasonal and some of the Scrumpy can stop your legs from working properly whilst still feeling sober.

I live in Australia now and have developed a taste for a couple here, I really like this stuff. It's made about 15 minutes from where I live here in the Blue Mountains. Have another company in the same area that make a Cider called Hillbilly which is also pretty good. The area is known for apple production, hence the two cider makers in a small village.

I thought it was about to be the next big thing after microbrews? I've loved cider since my first pint back in '99.

I don't get how food/drink can be "the next big thing". If you like a drink because it's trendy are you just choking it down to keep up some bizarre desire for appearing to drink the right thing?

That said Cider is awesome :)

Thatcher's Gold is my pint of choice at most pubs.

There is a chain of restaurants here in the UK called The Stable that specialise in pizza, pies, and ciders. They often have well over 50 different ciders available, and a weekly selection board of six ciders to try out. It's a great place to go with groups of people.

Vanderbilt Mill Toatally Roasted is my personal favorite.

It's made with honey roasted pecans with a hint of vanilla. Perfect amount of light sweetness with not being too dry.

Yeah I really wish I could have some of that. But again, I live somewhere with really backwards very specific cider importation laws, so I'm kinda screwed. As a reference point, we can't even have Strongbow in Quebec because it's not made locally. Ironically, I can drive to Ontario and buy some, but it's just ridiculous.

I'm a fan of Ace, though I prefer the apple to the pear. One of my favorite bars had it on tap a while back, which was a very welcome surprise.
