Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

I mean, it's no different than fighting the same trash mobs all over the city over and over, except, Majima actually puts up a fight and is fun to fight, and you get a big EXP reward every time.

i disagree. i think it seriously cheapens majima as a character. having played the entire series (including the spinoffs), all i can say is that part of what made majima such a great character over the course of the series was the fact that he wasn't everywhere, which, in turn, made each encounter special/memorable...

again, i had no problem with the scripted encounters. but the endless random, repetitive, same-dialogue-each-time, encounters? where majima's reduced to a friggin' punchline? no, not so much fun :) ...

I don't understand how MesuKing stuff works at all - is there supposed to be more to it than just randomly guessing Rock, Paper, Scissors? It seems like all the player cards I get either have low health and high technique or high health/very low technique (making it worthless since most cards require 50+ technique). It also says something about affinity with triangles, circles, double circles - huh? When playing the game, there is a timer and various buttons will flash for whatever reason, I just randomly select a button and wait for the timer to end ;p.

Some of the early opponents have easy tells. (If they're going for their strongest move, they'll use it right away, while for the others they wait a bit until they choose, stuff like that.)

But the most foolproof strategy...let's say your enemies' strongest move is stone...that'll be the one they want to use most of the time, so just pick a character and skill that's the strongest in paper and always use that. Only the final battle has a special move that throws a wrench in this approach but it's easy to figure out.

Another thing that is annoying me is the Komaki training stuff. I need to do 1 where you dodge bullets for 1 stupid minute and I got hit the 3 times I tried it. Just give me a normal battle...

Just keep your distance and you won't have to dodge at all. His bullets don't reach far.

Sure, from a story perspective it kinda cheapens his actual canon appearences (Especially with that horrible scene at the pier.) but nonetheless, he's always fun to fight. I take him over the regular enemy encounters anyday. (Those were annoying in this game, someone said it before, but they're waaaaay more frequent than in 0.)

He's Mr. Shakedown done right.

If you can put the park bench between him and you, you can make him chase you around it and he won't shoot at you as much.

locker items actually reset in legend even with carry over so you can get them twice.
Well although I can't confirm 100% but like 90% since you can gather the keys again.

Can you carry things over from a Normal/Hard complete save to a Legend run? I assumed it was like 0 and made you start from scratch.

Just keep your distance and you won't have to dodge at all. His bullets don't reach far.

Or even easier: Don't give him a chance to shoot you in the first place. Run up to Komaki, throw him and keep throwing him as soon as he gets up.

All I did to avoid the bullets was just run around the whole time, far away from him, and do a quickstep whenever he shot. I don't even know if the quickstep was necessary.

Or even easier: Don't give him a chance to shoot you in the first place. Run up to Komaki, throw him and keep throwing him as soon as he gets up.
I tried to do this, but he whipped me with the shotgun (didn't shoot) and it was an auto-fail even though he never used a bullet. Then I tried the above technique and had zero problems.

You can. You can even create a new carry over file from premium adventure by visiting serena (cause I believe that wasn't possible in 5).

Edit: (Legend ~28 tries)Carchase status: Absolute and complete despair. I can't make it past the truck phase.
Man pls anyone from the localization team if you have the power to make them patch in a save prompt just before the car chase(not even in it) so people don't have to repeat 2 enemy rooms + 1 boss fight every single time. I know I'm grasping at straw here man but... urgh Good luck to anyone else attempting this.

Thanks, I was able to get past the training and now I understand a bit more about what the card game was about. That one kid announcing pre-match what attack he was going to use was pretty obvious but I wasn't sure what else I was supposed to be doing.

I have a question on the last sub story.
I fought Jo Amon, I managed to beat him but was surprised that I had to fight him again when he changed his style to Mad Dog. Any tips against this guy or should I just stock up on stamina royal and toughness infinity? I know using Tiger Drop will be useful against this fight, but it can be tricky since some of his attacks are fast for me to react.

Stock up and keep trying, you should gradually learn the Tiger Drop timing against each attack, when to dodge grenade throws etc. The first phase is relatively easy but second can be pretty drawn out. When he runs laps in the second phase, you can get close and Tiger Drop then (no careful timing needed) without much danger. You really need to keep your health well topped up incase he gets two or even three big knife attacks in.

He does a ton of damage in the second phase which is pretty annoying. I'll try again later. Thanks.

And done, i think i need a Yakuza break, will wait for 6.

Finish with Amon fight, he took me a couple of tries (probably 6-7 times), Majima
Idol
was a pain to get, constant back and foward at the club was stupid and boring. Like it a lot overall, also like the game was also really challenging (about the same level as Y3). But don't want to spoil but the before final fight was one of the most bullshit fight i ever play in a Yakuza game since Y3 with the dude with the dual pistol (you know how i'm talking about if you have finish 3 Hunt like mission!).

Legend worth it ? Or it more of the same just more annoying ?

I'd say it's not worth it xD.

Edit: Progress update on car chase: Super slow but I can no take down the first rocket launcher guy on the truck with consistency. Unlike most videos that spam at the guy with the rocket launcher I feel it's easier to handle being conservative and just focus on killing rockets and car spawns while mostly ignoring the rocket launcher guy himself.
Reason is after 6-7 car spawns no additional ones will come in that phase and you can easily concentrate on killing the guy. I haven't figured out the second to last phase out yet with the motorcycles.

So I'm late to the party, I just finished Yakuza 0 couple nights ago. Very Satisfying ending to all character arcs.

Felt bad for Majima, but he definitely showed under his crazy side of him, he's a decent honorable guy.

Juts started Kiwami and I have to admit so far Side quest's and thing's to do compared to 0 feels kind of empty.

Also the skill tree is not as good as well as 0. Will yakuza 6 be more like 0 in terms of how you level up, get new skills?

Liking the story so far in Kiwami,
Prison Kiryru
is awesome even if short lived.

This is super cheap but I
switched to rush, built up heat by dodging, switched to dragon and used a heat action repeatedly.

Do keep in mind that this is a remake of Yakuza 1 - a PS2 game. Though it has way more content in it than the PS2 game its not up to the standards of later games in the series, especially 0. And that goes double for side stories. Your comparing side stories from the very first game in the series where they just started out, to 0 which is still the most refined game in the series in terms of everything.

6 has you earning different types of XP by doing different things - fighting, side stories,
eating different food etc. so its probably closer to Kiwami than 0 in terms of XP progression. But there is less to unlock at the same time. But again, keep in mind 0 is the odd one out in terms of XP - as its the only game in the series that uses money as a method of leveling up.

This is super cheap but I
switched to rush, built up heat by dodging, switched to dragon and used a heat action repeatedly.

That's really no cheaper than how you beat Amon in the original PS2 release - just get a light saber and stun lock him repeatedly until defeated. I mean, if you give him a chance he'd do the same to you so its only fair ;)

Bruh.... you have the patience of steel. I think pretty much anyone else would have ragequit by this point.

Haven't played the past couple days. Had a severe reaction to my dinner on Sunday and I've just felt wiped since. :( I'm almost done and have no new games of interest until Xenoblade 2 so whatever.

It's not patience it's just despite it all I guess I just like the game that much :D.
I rarely feel compelled to do stuff like this for games I even go away liking.
Like I really like a lot of the naughty dog games but I would never do plat for them despite it all they don't strike that chord with me.
It's just Yakuza like a lot of the Japanese games seem to vibe especially strong with me.

Also get well soon!

I just fucking did it it was real close too.
Still I don't wish that on anybody and this is def among the worst things these games have ever done and deserves all the criticism it gets xD.
Nobody be like me and move on lol.

Holy fuck the fight with the two brothers is annoying as hell.

The jingu fight on hard is bullshit
How do you even make a fight like that and say "yeah it's ok, it totally works"

i've played the ps2 version of this game twice, & these boss fights were never this tough, originally. i think that, besides tweaking the combat mechanics, the boss ai simply move/react faster than before as an unintentional result of the remaster process itself. because it is, indeed, pretty insane :) ...

I don't think you're remembering right. I played 1 earlier this year and these were 100% worse, because your options against them are extremely limited and movement in general is super clunky.

In Kiwami you have lots of options, hell, you can just cheese him spamming sumo slap every time you build heat until he's down.

I thought he and the Nishiki family gun wielding rando would be a nightmare on hard but they went down first try.

Not saying they're good, mind you, they're still shit, haha.

Agreed. Can't comment if the AI on Kiwami was made harder/more aggressive but fights in general in the original PS2 version can be harder since your heat move set is super limited, your lock on is unreliable at best and the camera really doesn't know what to do in faster battles.

I think this is the only reason i'm not going to try legend, i was getting angry at the game, this usualy never happen even on very hard game, it just feel cheap.

ho put a spoiler tag for the boss name, just in case ;).

I finally beat
Jo Amon
. I started to notice the damage on heat actions scales down if you keep repeating it. In his
Mad Dog Style phase
, when I was close to beating him, I had to change weapons so I could do heat actions to do some damage on him.

Yeah, that's a feature across the entire series, its why I tend to learn all the heat moves and keep a ton of different weapons on me, just so that I can pull off as many powerful heat moves as possible.
The arena in 5 was really bad for this - in one arena battle you had to fight a ton of enemies and by the end of it your heat moves were doing next to no damage. Not to bad if you were Kiryu or Sejima due to their strength, but for Akiyama it was incredibly hard (Shinada had a health regen move so it wasn't too bad).

Not sure on the first part, but for the rank c capstone try going in and out of mach bowl until you hear the chime then go find the enemies who talk to you before fighting. He needs to interrupt the fight as knife version.

I’ve earned over 2000 chips (over my starting amount) in poker several times now and Haruka doesn’t acknowledge it.

edit: I think if you fail to get enough and Haruka’s disappointed afterwards, you need to exit the whole Casino room and re-enter for Haruka to reset and make it count.

Ok, your hippo response made me laugh out loud, mainly because I've been cursing him for years now! He's a tough bastard to plead in karaoke for sure. The elephant ain't much better.

I'm pretty sure the cat or fish gave me a 180 in my 970 score run. I just remembering being really happy with my run, seeing 180 pop up and going "oh god" before the last two or three settled my nerves.

I managed to finish the weapons and gear earlier tonight. What a dull grind. Next is the Legend playthrough, which I'll start tomorrow.

Finished the game. 38:48 was the time.

What a surprise, the game turned out to be great. 0 was the better, more feature-rich game game overall, but damn if this wasn't good fun. Also quite happy that it didn't have a time sink like the Property/Club games in 0 either. Might spend a bit more time working on building up my Majima Everywhere rank and
Haruka's Trust
, but overall I think I'm done with the game for now, end it on a high note. Take a break from Yakuza and move onto the rest of my backlog.

...But I really should get round to playing Yakuza 5 before 6 comes out.
