Ys: Memories of Celceta Limited Edition announced

I think I'm going to pass on the limited edition. Don't care about the music and the other stuff doesn't justify $20 for me. Though I'd have liked to give them more money for a great series..

Persona 4 Golden Solid Gold, Ragnarok Oddysey Limited Edition, Ys Celceta Limited Edtion... and fucking stupid Square-Enix and his "we are a lot bigger than Atlus and Falcom etc. together but we don't know if FFX-HD and X-2 are gonna have a physical release on PSVita because we are morons".

Exactly.

I bought a Vita for the PROSPECT of this game, way back at launch. The PSP games are brilliant, all Falcom's Ys games are brilliant. This will singlehandedly justify my Vita purchase, like it hasn't already been. So glad I didn't preorder the standard edition. Getting this as soon as it pops up on Amazon.

how I wish they provided these CEs with a Digital copy of the game (instead of the Cart, give a download voucher)

That's better than the LE Falcom released, at least on paper.
Eh, depends on your priorities.
I generally value additional character/story material above all else, so the drama CDs in the Japanese versions are more appealing to me. (It's easy to buy the music separately.)

I'm just so excited for this now, man. I also bought a Vita for this very game, so this announcement just tells me yet again that we're getting closer and closer to that release, haha.

The LE itself is pretty sexy, though. The music CDs look awesome, and Wyrdwad said in the XSEED forums that they were going to pack music from over 20 (or 30?) different sources, including stuff from like, the Zanmai arrangement CDs that Falcom have been releasing as of late -- which are awesome!

My only real complaint - and this time it's not even directed at XSEED because Falcom did something very similar - is the cover. I loved the old Ys game boxes with just the big Ys logo and some badass backgrounds behind, so the whole "lots of characters" kinda takes away from that. But still, hardly a real issue, just a bit of nitpicking, hah.

Now the only thing left is to get enough money for the LE AND digital game. I need to import, and knowing my luck it'll get stuck on brazilian customs and take forever to arrive, so I'll just have to grab the digital one too, lol.

Or the fact that as far as we know, Falcom is actually the one responsible for the text insertion and overall programming bits concerned to the localization, so this generates delays and what not. Falcom is a quite small company and up until recently they had all of their staff concentrated in Sen no Kiseki, so the english version probably didn't get a lot of attention for a good while.

Not this eclectic mix of music! ;) As Blue-kun noted, this is not just Celceta music, but OST and arranged music from... well, if I want to be marketing-savvy, I'll say "30 different sources" here, since that's entirely accurate IF you're strictly going by the album upon which each track first appeared. Considering that Falcom has rereleased some of these tracks on compilation albums over the years, though, it's probably realistically more in the 20-25 range.

Still, that's 20-25 different albums you'd need to buy in order to get this same mix of music! With each track selected based on one of the following criteria:

- Historical significance. So, things like the original JDK Band version of "To Make the End of Battle," the English vocal version of "Lilia," the full version of Ys Seven's "Rush Out," or the classic vocal theme "Endless History" as featured in the Ys anime.

- Uniqueness. Expect some Falcom hip-hop, jazz, techno, disco-esque dance, Latin rhythms... you name it, it's on there somewhere.

- Fan favoritism. Tracks like "Iris" from Celceta, "A Great Ordeal" from Dawn of Ys, "Ernst" (JDK Band version) from Ys VI, "Genesis Beyond the Beginning" from Ys Origin, and a certain Ys Seven OST offering that people ripped me a new one for previously omitting from our Ys Seven Musical Selections CD. ;)

- Rarity/obscurity. Quality tracks that were featured in only one or two versions of an Ys game, or tracks that were featured on Ys albums even die-hard Falcom fans might never have heard of (like "Midori Kawana Sings Ys," for example!).

So, yeah. Not to oversell it, but I'm really excited to unveil this baby! It's gonna be awesome.

Aaaaactually, do take note of those big letters that say "IMAGE NOT FINAL" on the bottom left of the Celceta LE shot.

...What, you expected me to expand upon that statement? No, no, it's much more fun to imply something, then leave you wondering. ;)

Responding to a few other questions I've been asked thus far (or points I've seen people making):

The release date is indeed TBD, and we do apologize for the delay on narrowing it down. Falcom is busy finalizing Sen no Kiseki right now, and we've been pretty monstrously busy ourselves... and as a result, our schedules just haven't synched up too well lately. But things are on track for a fall release, so keep the hope alive! We're going to make sure this is a proper celebration of the Ys series, and good things come to those who wait.

The LE is not yet up for preorder, but that doesn't mean it's being limited to certain retailers or anything -- it just means we haven't quite gotten it up for preorder yet! ;) You'll be able to preorder it soon, though.

The image shown on the first page of this topic is a mock-up, so the actual appearance of the final product may vary. Which basically just means... the size of the map is not yet known. We'll let you guys know when we have actual dimensions for it.

There is no DLC whatsoever in Ys Celceta. Importers, feel free to import away, as the Vita is region-free for game cards and there is nothing to miss out on.

...Did I cover everything? You have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

I like the drama CDs, but lately, it's all Falcom has been putting in as extras. They used to do much more extravagant LEs (see: Oath in Felghana PC). Celceta did get a few more extras than usual, but this still looks better.

The Dragon's crown already justified my Vita, then there comes Ys!
Day fucking one!

Really great looking package deal. I'm getting that most definitely. It would've been nice to get the complete OST of Ys Celceta, though.

We getting a release date in the near future? :D

Probably not for a while, unfortunately. There are still too many variables that could push it back, and we don't like to give release dates until we can fully commit to them.

If you want a "best guess," though, just see what retailers are claiming. Those placeholder dates don't just materialize out of nowhere, after all -- they're educated guesses! Still just pure conjecture, but they should at least give you an idea of what we're shooting for.

If we haven't announced it, though, that means there's at *least* a 50/50 chance of that date getting pushed back, so... don't ever take one of those placeholders at face value, lest you emerge disappointed!

It would've been nice to get the complete OST of Ys Celceta, though.

If it's any consolation, disc 2 goes pretty heavy on the Ys IV and Celceta music. A lot of it is arranged rather than OST, but still... you're likely to find most of the standout tracks from the game in some form on disc 2 of the LE set.

wasn't there some save bug or something. I remember reading something about the import version. Is that gone/fixed?

That was fixed via a mandatory patch in the Japanese version of the game, and we're going to make absolutely certain that that patch is pre-applied in our rom before we even go into preliminary QA testing.

Cool! That was my only worry. Looks like another day1 vita game.

Cool. I'd rather not have a set release date and it get delayed than the alternative. Besides this and Danganronpa, my Vita will be pretty lonely for a while. Hope it doesn't get pushed back to 2014 though.

So I youtubed some gameplay and this looks pretty good.

Never played a game in the Ys series before though. Do I need to play others to understand the story at all? Or can I play this independently of the others?

I think most of the Ys games can be played without knowledge of the previous games. Most of the stories are pretty self-contained. The most you will get is a cameo or a reference to Dogi's compulsion to break through walls.

But I'd play Ys Seven to get a feel for the controls and what to expect, I'd also play Oath in Felghana for the music alone.

If this Ys IV is at all similar to the SFC Ys IV, some of the NPC dialog may spoil some things that happened in Ys I & II. But that only kind of matters if you plan on playing Ys I & II.

All you really need to know about the story in Ys is that Adol is a badass and wrecks shop wherever he goes.
