Really didn't want to buy an Xbox1 at all this gen because of my previous broken pile of xbox360s.

This really makes me rethink that position -_-

Damnit.

Hope it really is for WiiIU though. Last Story 2.... Come on!

Didn't Mistwalker join all those Japanese studios under Nintendo's umbrella after The Last Story, though? I recall reading something of the sorts.

Mistwalker's latest games have been on phones. I doubt Nintendo has any claim over them, and I don't see why they would want to.

What Mistwalker really needs is consistent funding. If Microsoft gave them a large R&D budget to make 3-4 games this generation, I would be a conflicted PS4/XboneOne/PC fan.

Are you saying you hope the last story 2 is on the xbone with a HD remake on it or are you saying you want it in general because the first one is impossible.
I'm hoping the Mistwalker game on Xbone is Last Story + Last a Story II.

Why is it impossible? Wasn't it published by XSEED on Wii? And it's entirely playable with the classic controller, so the port should work.

Yeah, I don't either. I just thought I'd read that somewhere. But, well, alright. I'm ok with having something to play on my Bone.

Doubt that will happen since Nintendo had a hand in the project.

Guess we will have to wait and see what will happen. I don't really think we will see anything on XBone from mistwalker, but then again Last Odyssey 2 would be really cool.

Completely agreed, would be interesting if LO2 was made but I'd prefer Lost Oddessy

Considering the companies involved with that do not exist anymore its going to be a bit hard to say that it would "live on" in any sort of way or form depending on how rights to things were broken up with the designs and such.

Had Cavia and AQ Interactive involved. Both which do not exist anymore. AQ was the pub and Cavia was part of the production. Mistwalker is the only one from those three still left standing.
Marvelous AQL likely holds any rights to Cry On. Marvelous and Cavia don't exist anymore but the people who made them up are mostly there now too.

Mistwalker has no allegiances. I'm sure they'd make an exclusive RPG for Amazon's new console if they were to bankroll it.

Had there been any talk on this outside of that tweet? A lot of folks in here are jumping for joy at the prospect of Mistwalker doing another Microsoft funded JRPG (and I don't blame them; Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are fantastic games), as it were a hard confirmation, but I'm having a tough time taking that one tweet seriously. I just don't see MS bankrolling JRPG development like they did early on in the 360's life span.

Nintendo owns Last Story, NoA didn't want to publish it stateside but they allowed XSeed to take the reigns.

Never played Blue Dragon. But LO was HUGE disappoint for me.

Story sucked ass, especially those two fucking annoying brats, and god, the battle system was just snooze fest. besides wild arms 3 LO was the 2nd game that I actually fall a sleep during the battle.

It was the game that convinced me that Sakaguchi should never direct another game, ever.

I would love to see Lost Odyssey 2 or Blue Dragon 2 happen. Any new Mistwalker game on one or all of the three next gen consoles (and PC) would be good though.

Gooch wasn't the director of LO. The Last Story is the first(only?) game he has directed since FFV.

Mistwalker last big game was 2011 for the Wii, and then they released 2 ios/android games in 2012. Nothing since. In 2013 He started talking to Uematsu again. Also AQ Interactive has been quiet according to wiki and they are the company that merged up with Artoon & feelplus.
Believe.

edit: AQI doesn't exist anymore?

I think Mistwalker doesn't release much because it's basically a shadow company of five people. When Sakaguchi doesn't want to do anything, they don't do anything.

AQL didn't merge so much with Artoon and feelplus (and Cavia) as it did absorb them (they were subsidiaries of AQI at the time). It was a massive consolidation at the time that resulted in some very serious talent loss. I think AQI changed its name? Or might now be a division of MAQL.

MAQL is a publisher and developer, but their most recent internally developed title is Soul Sacrifice Delta.

Wow, disagree on all accounts, especially with regards to the battle system in Lost Odyssey. The combat ring system and the way the special skills and abilities of mortals could be leeched off of and learned by Immortals in the same party was an awesome idea, and it's only if you take full advantage of that, that you'll truly be able to see the best in the game's combat system. I also just plain love turn based combat games, so it isn't something I could fall asleep playing. Also, mack and cooke were pretty cool characters, I liked them a lot. You really felt quite protective of the two of them. The scene
with their mother, Kaim's daughter, dying right before his eyes after being away from her for so long. It was so awesome learning that they were your grand children.
It was one of the most touching scenes I've ever seen in a game. Man, it's just packed with fantastic moments. Beautiful game.

To put it bluntly no. AAA means budget. Stuff like FF is a AAA JRPG. Lol at Tales being AAA.

Well, technically it does come down to budget, sure, but I find going based on how good I thought the game was, and how much I enjoyed the experience of it to be much more desirable. I thought Braid was a AAA experience, for example. Tales of Vesperia was a fantastic game, and so it was AAA all the way for me. Yuri was a really awesome character. He really surprised me at times with some of the stuff he seemed willing to do, and you don't often see that kind of dark take on things from main characters in these kinds of games. Blue Dragon is still one of the finest and more recent examples of an awesome, high quality traditional jrpg experience that is epic in scope, charming as hell, with a beautiful and an amazingly well realized world to explore. The potential for this game, as far as sequels go, is absolutely through the roof if they give it a chance. The ending opened up some truly exciting possibilities, and there were some things that could have been explored to greater depth in the first game that I feel would be ripe for a potential sequel. You can tell they had a ton of fun making that game. I still remember the awesome music in that town that was cut off from the outside world via a barrier. Oh, and props for the best boss battle theme ever. :p

thats not good. I don't know who he would partner with then.

As far as partnerships go, Sakaguchi and Mistwalker overseeing and guiding a Rare developed title seems pretty exciting. Rare would just do the development heavy lifting, but Sakaguchi and co would handle the creative side of things. And I'm sure there's some fantastic ideas internally, so maybe they can bounce ideas off each other. I think that would make a killer team. It also isn't like Rare doesn't have experience working with Japanese management, either. Wishful thinking probably haha. If I'm not mistaken, I think members of ensemble studios aided in blue dragon's development?

That RARE doesn't exist anymore.

Now when you guys talk about possible partnerships, I don't know what I'd do if Mistwalker partnered with Tri-Ace and made a game, but I fear my heart couldn't take it.
Oh well, at least I would die happy.

If Sakaguchi and Mistwalker can make Artoon do what they did with Blue Dragon, he can make gods out of Rare's development talent and technical skill.

That would be all kinds of wow. It would be almost TOO perfect. Actually, something else that would be even more perfect.

Sakaguchi and Mistwalker + Atlus JP Gaf would be down for days. :p

the hardest part of LO
was when kaim, who thought his daughter had died, found her
only to lose her again.. time for tears.. it was so very well done

Lost Odyssey's "A Thousand Years of Dreams" were penned by an award-winning Japanese short story writer, Kiyoshi Shigematsu, who worked directly with the game's producer Hironobu Sakaguchi on Kaim's backstory, while Sakaguchi alone wrote the game's main story. The memory sequences were translated into English by Jay Rubin, a respected Harvard professor who also translated the works of novelist Haruki Murakami.

I'm not saying he can't partner with MAQL. He definitely can. There's just no feelplus or cavia or artoon anymore, and I don't know if they're busy. But I imagine they're not full up.

It's not Rare unless Sakaguchi's been really coy about his twitter feed. He has mainly been traveling from Tokyo to Hawaii and back.
